Buy the Kindle Edition of Virginia Postrel's The Substance of Style for Just $2.99!
Former Reason chief Virginia Postrel badgered her publisher into offering the Kindle edition of her excellent 2003 book The Substance of Style for just $2.99.
It's a short-term sale, so hop to it if you want to pick up an e-copy for a steal of a price.
Read Edward Rothstein's rave in The New York Times.

You know, if she were still running this place this kind of pandering would never happen. I've got half a mind to cancel my subscription.
Drink!
Make mine a double.
How dare you encourage these women to not have kids on the state's dime. Racism!!! (apparently when there is absolutely no way to equate something feminists don't like with rape, they now say racism)
Who pays for digital IP?
How 'bout the trackers for a .pdf
Shit, now Tulpa's gonna show up and accuse you of being a car thief.
Slightly more info on the book. Theres a linkunder her pic to a video of her lecturing on consumerism that I thought was kind of interesting. About 15 minutes.

What about the Nook style over substance people?
Hell, if you're just gonna hack 'em anyway, the Nook is a much better machine.
If you're just going to hack them anyway, Calibre makes all devices equal.
Nice. I was gonna buy one in a month or two, and had decided on the nook. But I just heard that amazon's coming out with color e-ink screens this summer. I may not be able to resist getting a small one and putting a purple and gold color scheme on the text.
Oh my. I know what I'm getting the instant it comes out.
I don't have a tablet, or a reader, but I have used Calibre on my laptop and yes it is nice. I do use it to convert some documents for my mother's nook but those are mostly Gutenberg project files.
I hope they release the book for the Dickfer.
What's a oh wait a damn second!
They already did for the Hennway.
No. Fuck Amazon.
I'd totally give it up to an awesome company like them too.
Yeah there's always issues I have even with companies I like but I've never had a problem with Amazon. Why the hate?
There's always someone with a weird axe to grind on Hit & Run. Amazon's a new one, though.
I've seen a few "Amazon's a cult like Apple!" reactions. It's weird, since the love for Amazon is because of consistent excellent service across a wide variety of products and services.
I called Amazon about a device that my cousin spilled water on. Divine customer service, got it replaced within 15 minutes.
Would you say "two sets of testicles" divine?
No, but seriously, Amazon is awesome.
Any company with these sort of customer reviews for products they sell is beyond awesome.

Funniest shit I ever read.
They made you register to get rid of the rif raff so now we have higher quality axes to grind.
Just on principle with their policies (plus DRM). For all the mainstream stuff, they're perfectly fine. There are cases of where they chicken out and remove stuff from Kindle, which of course they reserve the right to do in their TOS. But also once they loose their license, or when something goes out of print, there goes your ebook as well. Doesn't happen with the physical book in hand.

Anonbots: untapped market. Makes sense when you think about it dude. LOL
Why is the Kindle edition of The Future and its Enemies so damn expensive? I was thinking of buying it, but not at that price.
I just finished it, and highly recommend it. It gave me a new perspective on the world that I can try on from time to time. It's unusual for a book to be written by a libertarian, and appeal to libertarians, without really being about libertarianism.
Buy it from half.com or something.
Dude no way man, who comes up with all that stuff? Wow.

I thought her first book, The Future and Its Enemies, was better. She mentioned "sparkling cell phones" one time too many in this book.
