Please Register Now to Comment at Reason.com!

Effective immediately, Reason.com is requiring registration for visitors who want to make comments on articles and Hit & Run posts.

While visitors will always be able to browse our pages without registering, if you want to comment on an article, you will need to register using a valid email address and creating a unique user ID. The process will only take a minute and any information will only be used to verify the identities of particular commenters and to manage your registration. It will not be used for promotions, email lists, or anything else without the permission of recipients.

We're switching to registration as a condition for commenting for two reasons. Over the next few months, we'll be rolling out an enhanced Reason.com – with a new look and a lot of new features – and registration will allow visitors to control and personalize their experience. As important, we've also noticed significant increases in spam, anon-bots, spoofers, trolls, and worse showing up in our comment threads (our regular readers have noticed it, too).

Registration will help us weed out the bad stuff while keeping Reason.com comment threads as lively and wide-open as possible.

To register:

  1. Visit the following URL:  http://reason.com/users/register
  2. Enter your name, a valid email address, your commenter handle, and a password.
  3. You will then receive an email at that address with a unique URL. Click the link to complete your registration.
  4. You can now comment while logged in using your email address and password.

Our comment threads will be open to anybody who registers and we'll continue our practice of moderating the comments as little as possible (we do reserve our right to delete any comment at any time for any reason). We value our uniquely active community of readers and commenters, and we look forward to maintaining Reason.com as the premier spot for wide-open, full-contact libertarian debate and conversation.

Once your account is active, you can stay logged in and return to post comments anytime. Or you can log in and out whenever you want. And as we roll out the new Reason.com, you'll be able to tailor the site to your preferences.
