Brickbat: I See You Won First Prize
The Granite City, Missouri, School Board has barred William Carruba from attending his senior prom wearing a kilt. Carruba says he bought a kilt made out of the family's tartan to honor his mother's Scottish heritage. But when he asked school officials about wearing it to the prom, Carruba says his principal said he should dress like a man. Superintendent Harry Briggs denied that anyone questioned the manliness of kilt wearers.

A scotman clad in kilt left a bar one evening fair...
keep it going!
And one could tell by how we walked that he drunk more than his share
and that he was a ladies man with no time for talk.
calling to the ladies, like Old Jack, to climb his Stalk
Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled towards a tree
Behind a bush, he lift his kilt and gawks at what he sees
And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes.
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize
I went to school in Chapel Hill where Mike Cross was a frequent performer. A fantastic entertainer, particularly in small venues and at summer festivals. For the uninitiated, his greatest hits are well worth a listen.
Once again, a school problem solved by separation of school and state.
Huh? One could easily argue just the reverse, that such a situation could constitute a Free Speech violation in a Public, but not a Private, school.
Besides, this is racism, straight up.
In a private school, they can set their own damn rules.
And I dont care what they do. Hence, problem solved.
Im arguing the same thing you are, not the reverse. Its a free speech violation in the public school, hence the problem solved by getting rid of public schools. Now it isnt a free speech violation.
Ah, a right, proper registration system! I heartily approve!
Except you're stuck with the HTML code in your screen name.
Not anymore!
Well that certainly makes a lot of sense to me dude.

I think the highland games competitors should visit this principal.
I'm going to keep my eyes out for a story about a Granite City principal being tragically killed in a freak caber toss accident.
That's what he gets for asking for permission instead of forgiveness.
"The principal did not say that men who wear kilts are not real men, he simply said that instead of wearing a kilt to the prom, the student should dress like a man! Totally different things!"
Thanks whoever signed up using my handle!
Registration at Reason - it is the end times.
Also - real men wear kilts. And if you don't believe me, remove that sghian dubh from your forehead and tell me so...
I got an email from reason saying they protected my name and to register. That makes me feel special.
Tragedies like this wouldn't happen with me as moderator.

You are clearly no Cincinnatus -- grasping for power in such an overt manner. You are one who would not go back to his plow.
Once I am no longer needed, I will fade away. Besides, how much longer do you really think a person as sick as I am really has? My defective pancreas is my term limit.
At which moment I shall seize power, the "needless moderator," and I shall reregister all the handles for myself. And I will bed your women. And perhaps some of your men, depending on how drunk I get on power and cough syrup.
Don't fuck up if you are SugarFree's second-in-command. Remember what happened to Joshua Graham.
I'm still needing a compelling reason to support you Saccharin Man.
Quite frankly JW is healthier and slightly less peverted.
Though you do have a folksy appeal...and I may be able to swing a beta-cell transplant for you.
For a price...(think high level position in your organization)
I am not above corruption. In fact, I am slightly below it.
I am at the same height, but a few miles to the side.
I started posting with my email instead of my link for precisely this reason. Sorry Mary PWND you, dude.
Can you imagine the "And nothing happened" if they just let the guy wear a kilt? It seems that at even the lowest levels of government, Power must be wielded at all times.
Power must be wielded at all times, but not in a way that would improve the students' education in any way.
