Ronald Bailey on America's Ethnic Makeup 2050
Whites will become a minority of the American population by 2050, according to Census Bureau projections. But Reason Science Correspondent Ronald Bailey argues that the turning point has already happened. He tallies up all the descendants from immigrant groups that were once not considered "white" and adds them to the current federally recognized ethnicities. According to the definitions applied by nativists a century ago, 60 percent of the current population is not "white." And that's a good thing.
