America Is Just One Decade Away From Turning Into Greece
The Land of the Free moves steadily toward the cliff.
When Greece blew up, its government debt was 126 percent of gross domestic product. Ours is on track to exceed that in about 10 years.
If we haven't learned from Greece, might we learn when other countries blow up? That may be about to happen, says Daniel Hannan, author of The New Road to Serfdom: A Letter of Warning to America.
Hannan, a British member of the European Parliament, says, "The consequences of the better part of 40 years of reckless borrowing have caught up with us."
I told him that most Americans don't notice Europe struggling. I hear people say: "I went to Paris. I went to Rome. Things are OK."
"Things are OK in the same sense that a house that is massively overmortgaged can still be a nice-looking house….But there comes a point when the bills are due, and we've reached that point."
On the surface, things do look good on the other side of the Atlantic. Europeans have shorter workdays and longer vacations than Americans. Many of us would say, "Sounds good."
"In the short term, it's lovely. What's not to like?…The trouble is you can't carry on doing that indefinitely….In the mid-1970s, Western Europe accounted for more than a third of the world's economy. Today, it's about a quarter. And in 2020, it will be 15 percent. That's the reality of burdening yourself with more taxes, more regulations…deeply uncompetitive practices."
Adding to the fiscal burden is the fact that people live longer.
"It's a good problem to have….But, of course, the longer people live, the worse the (worker-to-retiree) ratio grows….We introduced the old-age pension in the U.K. almost exactly 100 years ago….And in those days, you typically drew your pension for about 18 months. That was the gap between retirement and death. Fortunately, we can all now look forward to much longer periods of life. But, of course, you've got to pay for that….We are going to have to ask people to make a greater contribution or to retire later, or both."
People don't want to hear that. Hannan notes that his fellow Europeans are remarkably selfish when it comes to things they think they're entitled to. Some understand that cuts must be made, but don't touch their handouts.
"In France, they call it the 'droits acquis,' the acquired rights….As the governments try belatedly to…restore some order, some sanity to their public finances…people who now feel entitled by right, and who have stopped thinking about where the money comes from…quite understandably turn around and say: 'This wasn't what I expected when I started doing this job. Go and find the money somewhere else."
But there really isn't anywhere else.
We Americans feel entitled, too. We work longer and harder than Europeans, but American students say they are entitled to government loans; industries and their friends in politics insist that housing, agriculture, energy and all sorts of other businesses deserve subsidies; and most everyone expects health care to be free, or nearly free. Many politicians tell people that's all possible, and some promise more.
But that just moves us closer to the cliff.
Why don't we learn? Because there are problems that must be solved, and politicians act so interested in our welfare that we believe them when they say, "Yes, we can." But the educated response to "Yes, we can" is "No, they can't." Not when "they" means government.
Our government should be a fraction of the size it is now. Its girth is the result of electioneering politicians who promise the moon to gullible voters while using debt to push the costs onto our children and grandchildren.
Politicians can dream of guaranteed incomes and free medical care, but as economist Friedrich Hayek wrote in "The Fatal Conceit": "The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design."
But saying that government can't solve our problems is not to say that humanity cannot solve them. When people and markets are left free, we manage to prosper.

10 years? That's absurd. We don't have nearly that much time.
I'm thinking around 5-7 years myself.
5 years, max.
That's the spirit!
Because if we just believe that things will get better they will!
Or worse.
Restoras has it about right.
Funny, I was hearing that same estimate five years ago.
No shit,
America's debt to GDP will be over 130% in 3 years.
3 hell, just wait until Obama's re-elected.
just wait until Obama's re-elected...
A chill just ran up my spine when I read that. Not to be confused with Chris Matthew's "thrill" up his leg...
In all fairness Chris was pissing his pants at the time.
"3 hell, just wait until Obama's re-elected."
And he will be.
Not only is it coming sooner than 10 years, but even if we do the right things to correct the problem, it's going to be an ugly long stretch of double digit inflation and flat growth.
But the optimist in me says "we will never do the right things so don't worry about it".
Ha! It's gonna be way worse.
Understanding that we won't do the right thing is the first key to protecting yourself. Figure out the correct plays in a stagflation scenario, and execute. There is always money to be made, you just have to be on the right side of the transaction. Better hit the books and figure out hedging, arbitrage, options, and shorting.
True, but considering the complete disaster that my retirement fund has become I'm not exactly in the position to make any significant plays.
I'm better off researching job opportunities in North Dakota or somewhere similar that will be able to shield itself from the shitstorm to come thanks to the booming energy sector.
Dude, write a book and help us.
I thought 10 months was closer to reality.
On that debt to GDP ratio, make sure you are only looking at "agency debt" (I think that's the term).
Throwing in the intra-governmental "debt" (like the SocSec schmuckbox) throws it off.
America Is Just One Fortnight Away From Turning Into Greece
FTFS
They said this 20 years ago.
The ubiquitous 'They'.
As far as I'm concerned, we're already there.
As far as I'm concerned, we're already there.
I'd prefer the US to look like Greece in 10 years as opposed to smell like Greece!
Whats wrong with gyros?
Whaddya mean?
poor comparison since greece doesnt control their currency.
Re: Triple Asshole,
Thus spake the economics ignoramus, the direct result of the Amerikan Pulbic Skool Seistem.
The laws of economics are not suspended just because a country can print its own money, you imbecile.
monetary policy effects inflation & greece doesnt control its own monetary policy unlike the US. >it tries moar harder
Re: Triple Asshole,
So what, you imbecile? The only difference between defaulting by counterfeiting and defauting by not paying is the time it takes for the endgame to arrive, that's all.
Why. The fuck. Do you. Respond. To it? You do realize you're being trolled, right? Yet you do it anyway?
I have sinned!
*sob*
who are you?
Epi is one of H&R's thread cops.
so "REASON" has a thread cop who describes a non-profane, factual statement as "trolling" ?
Yes.
"You do realize you're being trolled, right?"
Every single time I see your name.
Piss poor attempt at deception o3.
fact - greece does NOT control their monetary policy unlike the US so this is a poor comparison. >the remainder is ur opinion, not fact.
Fact: You are a total brain dead imbecile. Go away.
and ur funny
Re: Triple Asshole,
Fact - this is irrelevant. The debt obligations affect the same way, by crowding out private investment. The ONLY economic difference you can point out between the two countries is the number of remaining productive people vs unproductive parasites, the rate in America still being higher than in Greece. However, this becomes irrelevant once the debt to productive output ratio reaches a level that makes both economies equivalent; this is very much besides any money printing effort by the FED. Printing money only delays the inevitable, it does NOT change the result.
Ergo, the comparison is apt, as economic analysis goes, your jingoism notwithstanding.
And you're still talking to it. Why?
Why are you still commenting on it?
"And you're still talking to it. Why?"
Why do you think you get to play message board sheriff, asshole?
message board sheriff
That's at least as good as "thread cop."
A+
old mex is obviously NOT an economist. the comparison bet greece & the US is superficial & therefore poor.
Why the fuck should anyone give your ideas any consideration when you can not produce a readable sentence? Where do you have the credibility to say whether anyone can talk about economics?
obviously you could read my sentence...& this one too. funny
"poor comparison since greece doesnt control their currency."
This seems pretty readable to me. It lacks a subject and capitalization, I suppose, but that shouldn't deter anyone whose first language is English.
Obviously everyone commenting understood it well enough to debate it (that term is used very loosely to describe use of the term "imbecile" as a debate point or people calling him troll for no apparent reason*).
Up until he got gang-banged, he was pretty reasonable. No swearing or ad hominem, which is more than I can say of his detractors. And he didn't trigger any "drink" responses.
I guess my point is, if someone is wrong on factual or empirical grounds, attack that point, not the person making it. "You're wrong" or "That's dumb" or "Stop talking" is not a counter-argument.
I agree with o3 that Greece and U.S. are not the same for the reason stated (currency control) but agree with others that the end result will be the same. The only difference is the U.S. might get to experience hyper-inflation before the collapse.
* A troll is not someone who disagrees with you. A troll is someone who posts for the sole purpose of trying to get a rise out of you.
Re: Triple Asshole,
Correction: NOT an economist YOU would agree with.
Your jingoism is superficial and poor. Stossel is not comparing countries, he's comparing debt to GDP ratios. A small debt affects a small economy the same way a BIG debt affects a big economy. The economic laws are the same regardless of how big or small the economy or how many stars are in the flag, moron.
Is it an economist? It puts the lotion on its skin and then puts it in the basket.

'fact - greece is not spelled like the US so this is a poor comparison.'
Hey, bozo! FIFY.
Why do you respond? Why?
Re: Episiarch,
It's a devilish pleasure, like painting graffiti.
Or reading the NY Post.
The Post is a true guilty pleasure, I admit.
^who's this clown again?
It's a mirror, O3. Look closely.

"Thread Cop," aka "Message Board Sheriff."
Not to be confused with Omar Sherif, the celebrated Bridge aficionado and one-time actor.
In the U.S., we won't be talking about "austerity". We will be talking about inflation.
We will wonder why everything costs so much, why our pay hasn't gone up much, why tax rates aren't adjusted for inflation - so those tax the rich rates apply to me now.
Make no mistake, we will be poorer.
we ARE poorer. inflation is monetary policy & we control our money unlike greece.
o3|12.8.11 @ 12:32PM|#
"we ARE poorer. inflation is monetary policy & we control our money unlike greece."
Uh, those Scrooge McDuck comics you favor really aren't econ texts.
Why do you think that the fact that "we" control our money and Greece doesn't is relevant?
It might be relevant to the possible solutions we could implement, but it's not relevant to the situation of the currency, debt-GDP ratio etc.
Why would it matter who's controlling it, when it's going wrong in the same way in both places?
While I recognize that o3 is just generally ignorant, he's got a significant argument.
Once we hit that magical 130% and can't sell bonds on the open market for a reasonable rate, we have the inflation option that's not available to Greece.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Having your own printing press allows you to (a) delay the crisis for a short while and (b) diversify the crisis to include inflation as well as a locked up bond market.
Yeah, I know it's not a solution. Was simply reporting the facts of the matter. We're pretty fucked; it doesn't matter how we're bent over.
We're gonna get it in every hole good and hard.
I'm stocking up on seeds and video games to ride it out.
"Video games" plural!?
Isn't Skyrim enough!?
For one lifetime, yes.
Speaking of which, are they going to do any Skyrim DLC?
They did with Oblivion.
I'm not buying Skyrim until the price drops by at least 50%. I have plenty of other games to tide me over. On that note, I somehow managed to score the new Deus Ex on Amazon.com for only $20 last week. I have no idea how that happened; I almost think it was a glitch on their listing, but I scooped it up nonetheless.
Pirate it now. Buy the "Game of the Year Edition" with all the DLCs and the expansion after it comes out on steam for $20 a year from now.
Speaking of which, are they going to do any Skyrim DLC?
I can't imagine this game with DLC on top of what's already in it. It's already a huge time sink as it is--right now, even for relatively piddly quests, it takes me roughly 30-45 minutes to execute the objectives, improve and/or sell my loot, and consolidate what's left, and that's if I don't bother trying to upgrade my skills.
Don't get me wrong, the game is a lot of fun, but I can see why this series is so huge with the ComicCon goon set--it's a real easy way for them to immerse themselves in a world where they aren't socially and physically inept goons, to the extent that it even includes pointless busy work. Honestly, what's the purpose of spending time chopping wood in a video game? There isn't, but it allows nerds to do some menial task in between living out their power-revenge fantasies on UGH VAPID JOCKS.
I wish they would do a DLC with some of the old spells from the previous Edler Scrolls games like Mark and Recall, Levitation, Open Lock, Water Walking, etc. They were all very useful, even if you weren't trying to play a mage.
I don't have it yet. I'll wait till the economy collapses.
I used to play Skyrim during the budgetocalypse, then I took an arrow to the knee.
I got to thinking, maybe I'm the dragonborn, and I just don't know it yet.
Easy way to check: kill a dragon, and see if you absorb its soul.
We're gonna get it in every hole good and hard.
Dude...they(we?)are going to have to make NEW holes to fuck us properly. It's going to be like prison-shank-rape without all the fun.
"Once we hit that magical 130% and can't sell bonds on the open market for a reasonable rate, we have the inflation option that's not available to Greece."
That controls what's printed on the paper, but that's not controlling money. It will find its own level.
Neither do the Americans. We're not Federal, and we have no reserves.
"poor comparison since greece doesnt control their currency."
...or their bowels.
But they're entitled to them! That is, of course, until the money totally runs out. Then they will feel cheated. They will feel angry. They will lash out. They will make those that produce to do a John Galt, and that will spell the endgame for the last remnant of the old Feudal system; the market will finally have the last laugh.
Yeah, that's wonderful, as long as you skip over the increasing brutality and viciousness with which the parasite class tries to maintain its control before the collapse.
parasite class = that monopoly called government
...the increasing brutality and viciousness with which the parasite class tries to maintain its control before the collapse.
Well...John Galt did end up just hanging out in the woods while that shit blew over.
Nevermind all that, according to Chapman its all fiction and can't happen.
Yup. We've been long overdue for a major European war.
I suspect this will happen shortly after we pull all our troops from Europe.
who's "they"?
Re: Direct Result Of Amerikan Pulbic Skool Seistem who can't read,
"Hannan notes that his fellow Europeans[...] "
Besides economics and reading comprehension, I wonder what other handicap you suffer, O.
so "they" is ALL europeans?...regardless of nationality or ethnicity? >explain ur familarity w "they", to allow for such a sweeping generalization?
Re: Triple Asshole,
What an astonishing thing to ask, when the term "Europeans" implies all people that live inside the continent of Europe, regardless of nationality or ethnicity.
So, your other handicap is understanding concepts.
so "they" occupied zucotti which means ALL americans ?
Re: Triple Asshole,
Nobody mentioned zucotti park or Americans, so I don't understand the relevancy of bringing up that imaginary context.
Did you take you Thorazine this morning? Maybe you forgot to, O.
i used ur construct "they"...so "they" occupied zucotti = ALL americans per old mex.
Re: Triple Asshole,
It's not a construct, triple moron. "They" is a pronoun used in the sentence instead of "Europeans" as that noun was already used in the text. Your sentence makes no such clarification.
Ok so we have: Economics, reading comprehension, concepts and now composition rules - besides wits, common sense and the command of the QWERTY keyboard. Very much a well-rounded list of handicaps, triple asshole. Congratulations, you're a step closer to an idiot savant except for the savant part.
im not using indirect pronouns like you. "they" is useless to describe a european pop of moar than 350 million spread across a dozen nations.
They is very useful for wingnuts to demonize diverse populations.
If you're unwilling/unable to understand that "they" is obviously a generalization about how the influential/vocal/voting-majority portion of a population leans, then you obviously deserve all of the epithets OM is ascribing to you.
Of course not ALL, but you're going full retard by pointing that out as if it were an argument.
All mammals is a sweeping generalization. Europeans is a defined group.
All mammals isn't even descriptive of all Europeans. Don't forget the lizard people who control it all.
Shhh, we aren't supposed to mention them in public!
By a very large majority, Europeans are socialist, and "they" really see free education, health care, housing etc. as rights that are granted to them.
Yes there are exceptions, not all are socialists (like myself), I don't get upset when people state that Europeans are entitled twats - most of them are !
Uh, Europe represents less than 10% of the world's population - ultimately, if Free Market Principles were to prevail everywhere, shouldn't then end up somewhere less than 10% of the world economy? Europe's share has decreased in large part because China, India, Brazil, and other developing economies shares are increasing.
Ultimately, that would be true, but that's not really what's happening now.
True, but that does not mean Europe should get poorer, it means other places will get richer. What is happening in Europe is simply socialism not being able to pay the bills anymore.
Europe doesn't have Socialism.
Is that why the so many of the parties whose policies have been implemented there call themselves "Democratic Socialist Party"?
Actually speaking of European decline, the populations of Europe are aging and shrinking. Which also is not exactly going to help when one wants economic vitality and dynamism.
All things being equal it would be, but then you would still have other nations that were comparitavely more productive than others which would yield a higher than expected GDP. The converse also being true as well.
A decade?
Where does Stossel get the insane idea that we're not ALREADY THERE????
(BTW, in unrelated news, is there any truth to the rumor that Thai king Bhumibol Adulyadej has goat orgies?)
If you were king, wouldn't you?
Actually, what Stossel is really talking about is that the next stimulus will be to make the U.S. look like classical Greece--columns, nude statues, the works.
fuck yeah, I'd like a nude statue of me.
Did you star in 300? Otherwise stay clothed. Please.
Hey, I don't care if you look at it. I want it purely to stroke my own ego.
Classical Greek statues == chubby is the in look.
Re: Pro Libertate,
Even the public baths? Oh, heaven!
"So, Tommy, have you ever been to a Turkish bath house?"
That's why the government has been so eager to recognize gay rights. All part of the plan. Next up will be a strange push for olive and wine consumption. Look for it.
Well, Greece is corrupt as all hell, so no wonder this administration wants to emulate them.
Another sign will be when they start painting all of the white marble statues in DC.
Also, don't be surprised when we become a pure democracy, using pot shards to cast votes. All in the plan.
Dude, you're 7 months late.
http://www.oliveoiltimes.com/o.....aign/16022
Of course. More to come.
As long as we get the option to ostracize people, I'm all for it.
Yes, that, too. We're going all-Greek.
I Phelta Thi?
No, he means we're all going to get in on the butsecks.
I am gonna haze the shit out of you, Jim.
That's the plan, but you don't have to do it. I plan to avoid public baths and sporting events myself once we go full-Greek. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You want breakfast? Try the diner. You're obviously into Greek...Get it?
"Man, it smells like ass soup in here."
I am intrigued by what you say and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
OT:
Sorry, but for some sick reason, I findly this hilariously ironic. The gov't tells us to worship servicemembers as god-heroes out there defending our freedoms from the Long Night, and then they do this with the remains.
Maybe it will make somebody out there think. Then again, it probably won't.
Who cares? It's some ash. Dump it in your garden for all I care.
I know that, and you know that. The point is, the government feeds people the line that soldiers are all sacred. Generally one does not treat sacred objects like this.
Unless they're dead or at the VA hospital. You need to understand how this works, Jim.
Oh I do understand; but pretty much everything we do here is preaching to the choir, so I'm just contributing to that fine tradition.
and since this is how they treat the honored few how do you think Obamacare is going to treat us.
Like this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/77.....TuFIq5jRdx
There are some on this board who, when TSHTF, side with the guys wearing all the nice ribbons and baubles and trinkets.
There are some americans who love country and state and military more than they do liberty and prosperity and civilization. Those americans are just too stupid to understand that country, state and military are not compatible with liberty, prosperity and civilization.
How about Chris Berman imploring all of us to stop and say thanks to older veterans in sucking the scrotum of Pearl Harbor Day?
During halftime highlites, no less.
If a man chooses to identify with state sponsored military or paramilitary organizations, I would be glad to accompany him to the ovens and throw him the fuck in where he deserves to be.
Berman should do commentary while the remains are being dumped in the landfill.
"They could...go...all...the...way!!!"
You know, Jim, that's in terrible taste. I approve.
I shudder to think of the eldritch world that would result from you, Warty, and myself forming the ruling triumverate.
It would be like Arioch, Xiombarg, and Slortar running their own plane.
That's already how I run my house (pacts with various demons, torture, etc). Which is why I'm against government; because people like me exist and get elected.
As long as I get my own head-mower like in Caligula, I don't care what my evil name is.
Even if your evil name is Barrack Hussein Obama, or possibly Cacapoopoopeepeeshire?
so this is NOT trolling ?
Fuck, that made me laugh!
Jim @ 1:25PM
*whew* I thought you were encouraging o3.
Cacapoopoopeepeeshire is my name, you fucking insensitive dolt.
*sigh* Man I just keep stepping on everybody's toes around here. I'd kill myself if I wasn't so lazy and selfish.
I thought your evil name was Warty.
"Warty" is one possible transliteration of my evil name into your puny human alphabet, yes. Cacapoopoopeepeeshire is much more correct, though.
What is it in Cardassian?
Khloe.
I thought she was a Klingon? She looks sort of like B'etor.
Then again...Kardashian...Cardassian...it all adds up!
Wait, when did this become a brainstorming session for the next script for The Big Bang Theory?
At about 1:30. I've still been going back and trying to argue with those fools in the Pearl Harbor thread.
Are you related to the Cacapoopoopeepeeshire's of New Haven? Marvelous people. I think he made his fortune in textiles. They used to throw such lovely Christmas parties.
Screw you guys.
OT: Reports of campus police officer shot on Virginia Tech campus. WTF, VT?
Those anti-gun laws really helped out a guess, huh?
Here's what is going on at VT.
Also, FTA: The shooting comes the same day as Virginia Tech is appealing a $55,000 fine by the Education Department in connection with the university's response to a 2007 rampage that left 33 people dead.
How the fuck does the Department of Education have the authority to issue a fine for anything? How do they have standing, first of all?
I've heard they, the DOE, even has it's own police force now. What for I don't know can't they just call the cops like everyone else.
Student loan collection, maybe?
Or something like, "We got budgeted for a police force? OK, well set up a job fair."
It's because of their bullshit Sugarbowl berth.
K-State got robbed.
I concur. The Big 12 got majorly disrespected.
Then blame Oklahoma for sucking major league donkey balls in the BCS games until they beat Connecticut High School in last year's Fiesta Bowl.
Dude, I blame OU for everything wrong in the world...
You sound like groovus.
Where has doc been, btw? Has he finally absconded with Banjos?
Maybe he's gonna pull a move like that LA cop who accidentally shot himself outside a school and got martial law declared for a 10 block radius.
That cop was not charged with any of the crimes he committed **Plaxico** by the way.
He got convicted of a few charges. Read more here at HuffPo.
Good news is that this seems like a traffic stop gone wrong, not another rampage like Cho. Hopefully, they get the guy soon. Any Hokie H&R readers, stay safe.
The cop is either a dick or a really nice guy.
I think we are 3 years from total fiscal chaos. Nobody wants to hear the truth about the mess we are in the police state continues to crackdown on the mundanes.
Why America Could Look Like Greece In 10 Years
The real reason is Man-made Global Warming. According to new models out of Dubai today, if we don't stop greenhouse gas emissions in the developed world* within the next year, the flooding will be so massive that the entire continent of North America will become a chain of islands. In support of this hypothesis, they offered up a few articles in Nature and a photograph of a headless chicken lying on a box that said "NA a chain of islands in 10 years."
*Greenhouse gases in the developing world such as China and India are oddly enough not causing the same level of destruction as gases from developed nations are, due in part to the minimal amount of wealth that can be extracted from those nations as plenary indulgences to Algor and the other gods of AGW. The underdeveloped world appears to be cleaning the atmosphere with their emissions, so much that they are to be credited a small % of the indulgences taken in by the IPCC Central Committee.
the entire continent of North America will become a chain of islands.
I live on a hill. I look forward to fishing off of my front porch. I will, however, have to buy a boat.
Mr. Milkman, why u no deliver milk to my house?
If it's a bunch of islands, will anybody be free to gambol?
Doubtful. But you'll need gimbals.
"Droits acquis," yeah; one thing I NEVER anticipated I would see in my lifetime is the fact that Americans are adamant about not cutting back on their government benefits. I was dumb enough to believe that everyone understood that if the government couldn't afford to provide us all with the Big Tit, then we'd all agree that we had to cut down on the spending, but I was wrong, so wrong.
When it comes to feeding from the public trough, we're just as piggy as everyone else. We deserve whatever happens to us.
I too grew up thinking that my generation inherently knew that government and authoritah was a giant joke and should be ignored. Then they go and pull these fucking OWS camp outs and I hang my head in shame.
Breaking News! Youth is wasted on the young!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvs.....exico.html
The kid is clearly gay (NTTAWWT). If I had a girl that hot hanging on me in a bikini when I was only 17 I would have had a boner so severe I could have fucked my way through a concrete wall. Or maybe 'Justin' is a lesbian and has no dick.
You were checking out his crotch looking for a boner?
Are you sure he's the one who is gay(NTTAWWT)?
I would have had a boner so severe I could have fucked my way through a concrete wall.
Yeah...I used to say that you could have done chin ups on mine!
Speaking of chin-up's. This person could use one.
I will never be able to unsee that. Thanks. Not.
In keeping with the holiday spirit.....
Whenever I see Selena Gomez nearly naked I find myself with a bad case of ....while visions of felonies danced in my head!
What a waste...she and that 30 year old lesbian (Bieber).
There is no greater waste than Portia de Rossi.
Why did you have to remind me? I live in denial of that. Just stop it, next you'll be reminding me that Kristanna Loken is gay.....
dammit, did it to myself
Anne Heche happened, Anne Heche happened....
That seriously did make me cry. At least I'll get to stare at her some more when Arrested Development comes back to Netflix.
As long as Kristanna keeps taking her clothes off in B-grade movies, I don't care who she sleeps with.
I'm starting to think I have a twin brother and we were separated at birth.
Meh. She's cute, but I can literally find a dozen girls just like her (or cuter) in one afternoon at the Houston Galleria.
Selena's English might be better, tho'.
After leaving Houston for 2 years, I went back for a wedding and was staying in that area. Killed a morning wandering around and wondering why the hell I left. FSU is nice, but I think the average is a full point higher in Houston.
Whenever I see Selena Gomez nearly naked I find myself with a bad case of ....while visions of felonies danced in my head!
For some reason, I think of bobblehead dolls.
Not so much a bobblehead doll but that photo looked like it was straight out of Japanese comics.
I'm more than okay with that!
Get to your bunk, fish.
I just want to add one more thing: I just applied for Medicare as I reached the proper age for that. The complexity of choosing how to register and how to obtain Medicare supplemental insurance is so bad that I'm sure that the government bureaucracy set up to deal with that creates millions of jobs whose salary and benefits we taxpayers are paying. It really is mind-boggling. Wait until you do it; I bet the complexity of it will blow you away.
It wont exist when we are old enough to do it. Hope you enjoy our tax dollars.
Have you ever signed up for individual private insurance?
The instant the citizens of a country can morally justify entitlement to other peoples money, your economic system is doomed.
That 's what good ole George Washington did with the supression of the Whiskey Rebellion.
The worse offenders are the cops and soldiers and IRS, FBI, ATF and DEA parasites.
I disagree. At least they do something for the money.
The worst offenders are those who receive government charity. They do nothing.
They do something... produce more offspring that will receive government charity.
I'd much prefer a parasite that does nothing, as opposed to the IRS, DEA, ATFE, etc.
I would also prefer that the federal government left law enforcement to the states, but my point is that they are providing a service (however fucked up it may be) while the leaches leach.
Organization = disorganization
So have Merkozy found the magic money orchard yet, or are they just trying one more game of 3-card Monte?
It is their day to save Europe.
I can see the next German conquest of Europe rationalization moving from 'breathing room' to 'let's get our money back'. Amiright??
'Eliminate the parasites' might be a winner for the next demagogue.
That would get my vote.
We're on the right track. Did you see the story I linked yesterday about the mom that killed her entire brood because they were denied food stamps?
It worked the first time.
During the Today Show interview:
"Candidate T, don't you think that your campaign slogan "Eliminate the Parasites" might be misconstrued as, well, eliminationist rhetoric."
"Fuck no, it won't be misconstrued as eliminationist. It IS eliminationist. Its right there in the first word, you ignorant [test pattern] . . . "
Yeah, that's how my interview would go. I am wholly unsuited to the kind of press interaction electoral politics requires.
Of course, I will never be interviewed on live television if my wife has anything to say about it. The fact that the word 'fuck' comes out of my mouth a minimum of three times a minute (and I'm completely unaware of it) is the primary reason.
Bottom Line: America is fucked. There is nothing that can be done now to save it. We will never again be as prosperous, as vital and as free as we once were. The sooner people realize this, the better.
The corollary to this: get out while you can. It happened once before (Europe from 17th-20th centuries), where the love and practice of liberty follows the path of least resistance. It must, and will, happen again.
get out while you can
And go where?
Got any leads on someplace that is freer and relatively cheap to live in?
The wife and I have been checking into Costa Rica and Belize. We've visited the former, but still need to make it out to the later to scout around.
It's not perfect, but by and large the local gov't largely says out of your way and you deal with the people in your town more than anything else.
And having some greenbacks really greases the rails.
But thats assuming America wouldn't flex their muscle there. And I think they would. One thing that worries me is that this crisis won't affect our status as a super power, power is relatively and everyone is going to take a huge hit. What the crisis will do is make us poorer and make our goverment more intrusive and belligerant than before. If people thought our actions overseas were intolerable now wait until we do more actions like Libya, just because we can.
>insert Somalia joke here
Greece is a currency user. The US is a currency issuer. Bad things can happen in the US for sure but we'll never turn into Greece unless we give up our monetary sovereignty.
exactly but these folks cannot distinguish bet fiscal & monetary policy.
Excellent, another econimc ignoramus.
Zimbabwe was a currency issuer. Bad things happen.
Zimbabwe is now a currency user, and things are better there.
You can't inflate your way to prosperity.
Still a porn star and now a supermodel, she has the face ? and the body ? of an angel.
One of the most famous models to come out of Japan in within the last 6 years, Maria Ozawa appears in bukkake films and still made the cover of FHM magazine. These are Impressive credentials for anyone, but not surprising when you see the perfect proportions of this cute little thing.
A phenomenon on both YouTube and YouPorn - she is yin and yang, the best of two worlds. Sexy and innocent, sweet and arousing, and she loves shopping for shoes.
Maria Ozawa is a unique Japanese icon and celebrity, in many different ways. And now she appears here, on Hegre-Art.
Government creates license plate making jobs.
Did Anderson just say that The Sound of Music became Best Buy?
Stemberg takes on Obama's regulators.
...and the unions.
It sounds like the way to become CEO is to stumble into it.
Stossel thinks it's illegal to be Korean in today's environment.
Second shot at Dodd-Frank.
Computer network engineer jobs? Sure, it's available, but how many out there are qualified to surf Drudge all day?
There's always a risk that your employee will murder you if you hire ethnics.
We're trying to protect against al Qaeda? WRONG. We're trying to protect against non-union workers STEALING OUR JERBS.
Sure Stemberg made his shirt out of a picnic blanket, but he sure has the Obama Admin pegged.
"Pay someone to read" all the regulations on business enterprises. That's the key. Lobbyists write regulations they know they'll be hired to interpret.
The Stoss is mixing and matching CEOs tonight. I'm having trouble keeping up.
McGovern, you prick. You couldn't figure out the devastating effect of bureaucracy until personally hit with it?
Boom, Stoss just turned it back on the CEOs. TALK BETTER, CEOS.
One regulation away from Nirvana.
Stossel just give-me-a-breaked his guest behind his back!
Syriana is Hollywood for nonsense.
I thought the villain in the original Manchurian Candidate was the Chinese Red, not the Soviets.
Dude, this form is not Twitter for Christ's sake.
Stossel hates that the gays stole that word, too.
Just curious, but do you ever shut up?
Japan's debt to GDP for 2010 is 225% according to the CIA World Factbook. I don't see them going under any time soon.
thanks
