John Waters, Capitalist
Filmmaker John Waters, director of Pink Flamingos and other Baltimore-based masterpieces, grants an interview to the Financial Times (!) in which he comes out…as a capitalist:
Long before Occupy Wall Street, Waters was fond of protesting. "Riots are fun. I hate to say that, but in the Sixties I went to all of them. I was a Yippie. I was a Weathermen hag." One of his youthful protests was a "Burn the Bank of America" rally, but now he banks with his former target. "I recognise the irony of it," he admits….
He now believes in capitalism, he says, "because the more success I have, the more people I have to hire," and he is embarrassed to think that he marched against the construction of the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco ("Now when I look at it, it's the most gorgeous architecture").

Anyone remember the D.A. Pennebaker documentary The War Room about Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign?
Who's up for the John Waters documentary Liberty and Turds about Ron Paul's current campaign?
"We Need To Make Books Cool Again. If You Go Home With Somebody And They Don't Have Books, Don't Fuck Them."
Waaaaay covered on that. .. and I don't even read any of the books I have!
I buy old used books and place them on the shelf for just that reason.
DFTS
Since I've moved on to being a Kindle fanatic I've had to fill my bookshelves with Kindles. It's not very attractive I'll grant you....
Rather only whores with librarians.
Hey, librarian have standards too- and they're only about 20% dudes as a profession.
That goes without saying -- oh, wait, did you say, "books"?
I try to make it to all the riots that I can, too.
because the more success I have, the more people I have to hire
No, no, no. It just doesn't work this way.
While it has been kept mostly a secret, the most comfortable thing to sleep upon is a mattress filled with money. This effect can be increased by having more mattresses filled with money stacked one on another.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet both sleep upon thousands of mattresses filled with their money. If we take a few of their thousands of mattresses, they won't even notice and we can fund ANYTHING!
If you want to deny any type of government spending, especially wealth transfers, it is because you would rather poor, old, handicapped people will die than Bill Gates sleep on one less mattress full of money.
At least that is what Ezra Klein told me.

Huh, maybe I did say this and maybe I didn't, but I've read a lot of books and have a seat at the table of Your Betters so pipe down. Oh, and by the way, I am an even bigger ass-douche than I come across in my scribblings.
Your ass-douchiness is small potatoes compared to mine...small potatoes!
Shouldn't John Waters image be on the 3 dollar bill? NTTAWRT.
Lol absolutely
I've had a few friends come around at this -- one's a rabid Paul fan now, and the other's gradually sinking further into a firm Goldwater-citing phase -- not bad, eh? Progressives to capitalists! I'm so proud!

Just in case the other thread got sunk beneath the new blog entries, this was a response to Dunphy. If you want to keep this thread clean, just post back on there.
Although I'll probably be able to predict your retort with uncanny accuracy. I wonder why?
Goldwater-quoting is a sign of healthy libertarianism. It shows a comfortableness with associating with political outlaws, a firm grasp of basic libertarian tenets, and the willingness to do the historical research. Not bad.
I wonder what John would say about that woman who killed her three kids and then shot herself because she was denied food stamps that's been all over the news the last few days.
Every prog I know is now screaming that cutting any welfare for anyone is tantamount to murdering people.
Did she eat the children before she killed herself?
One can only hope. That would be the ultimate vindication of libertarianism.
Seriously though, we now have people willing to say, "Unless you give me entitlements, I will kill children."
That poor women was driven to the end of her rope and she didnt have any options. I dont need food stamps but I used to use them thank God they saved my life. I hope you dont need to use food stamps cause when you cant get them maybe you will do something evil too. You will be at the end of your rope and what then?
^^ That's pretty good. Not the best I've ever seen, but good. B+
Don't use my handle!
You will be at the end of your rope and what then?
This a trick question, isn't it?
a) Work
b) Commit crimes
c) Get a government job (same as a+b)
"I hope you dont need to use food stamps cause when you cant get them maybe you will do something evil too. You will be at the end of your rope and what then?"
I used to be all messed up on drugs. Now, I'm all messed up on the Lord. Have you heard the Word of God?
Seriously though, we now have people willing to say, "Unless you give me entitlements, I will kill children."
Well, we have people who are willing to have children so that they can get entitlements.
Public radio's leftist Marketplace show today repeated the classic boner of how ending the nearly eternal 99-weeks of unemployment compensation will derail the recovery. All those deadbeats paying bills and rent and eating and buying stuff will suddenly stop doing all those things if they don't get a weekly check from Uncle ($55 billion worth). They'll be on the streets, starving, and they'll take us with them!

"Now, that's Desperate Living!"
I wonder what John would say about that woman who killed her three kids and then shot herself because she was denied food stamps that's been all over the news the last few days.
Every prog I know is now screaming that cutting any welfare for anyone is tantamount to murdering people.
Reports are that she went into these various welfare offices with the kids being barefoot. I wonder why those same progs aren't questioning why the Benevolent Government Employees at the food stamp line didn't immediately report her to child services for neglect.
Also read that her daughter was making Facebook updates during the SWAT standoff. And again, priorities come into play here--you can afford an internet connection/smartphone with data plan, but you can't afford to put food on the table for your kids?
Seen here:

And by the way, fuck the progs that are screaming about this. The woman was having her kids live with her a 6X16 foot shack, and was getting child support. They should be screaming about the judge that gave her custody when she clearly couldn't take care of her children, and if the dad didn't want to be involved, then they should have been placed in foster care.
The feminist credo "You don't need no man to raise a child!" falls flat on its face again.
persona non grata in Hollywood in . . .
About 2 years ago, my curiosity about Goldwater, and a trip to my local (public!!!) library for The Conscience of a Conservative directly led me to my libertarianism. Goldwater is a gateway drug.
That's a hard find in most public libraries I know. Dusty was it? librarians must have missed it and left it there on accident.
Welcome to Baltimore... DUCK mother fuckers!!
Dude... is it too late to recruit John Waters for President? That would be awesome!!!
John Waters: "Trashy, but Slightly Less Trashy than the Rest of Washington..."
Phooey.
I wonder how many future capitalists are going to be embarrassed by their participation in the OWS movement.
good point...
Beware the pink false capitalists.
While the poor people sleepin'
With the shade on the light
While the poor people sleepin'
All the stars come out at night
After closing time
At the Guernsey Fair
I detect the El Supremo
From the room at the top of the stairs
Well I've been around the world
And I've been in the Washington Zoo
And in all my travels
As the facts unravel
I've found this to be true
They got the house on the corner
With the rug inside
They got the booze they need
All that money can buy
They got the shapely bods
They got the Steely Dan T-shirt
And for the coup-de-gras
They're outrageous
Show biz kids making movies
Of themselves you know they
Don't give a fuck about anybody else

That's the gayest thing I've ever read.
That's funny, this being a John Waters thread and all.
JW is one of the funniest people around. His movies are testaments to libertarianism.
He's a blast to watch on talk shows. He'll say the most ludicrous, outrageous stuff and the hosts always end up looking like they'd rather be anywhere but in the seat next to him.
thanks
look ! this is money ! @#$%%
