The pews are filled again, mostly with WASP males - in business attire. They talk quietly amongst themselves about the Dow Jones Industrial Average, how their stock portfolios are doing, etc.

A number of them are admiring the new statue of Ayn Rand. It stands near the statue of Ronald Reagan, and portrays the famous writer in a shrugging position while a globe sitting behind her burns. Around the room, you can see statues of golden bulls, paintings of economists like Friedrich von Hayek and Milton Friedman.

The green-and-gold clad Capitalism Choir is warming up for another performance. A young man in matching garb is nearby preparing their merchandise table - Capitalist Choir hats, T-shirts, and so on.

The church leader steps to the front, and the congregation settles in for another joyful and informative sermon.

These are all quotes from Radley Balko concering James O'Keefe from the last 6 months alone. I wonder why he encourages taping police, but not US Senate offices, or NPR?

?James O'Keefe bars spectators from recording his speech.
?James O'Keefe reaches new depths of despicableness. Worse, he's spawning imitators.
?James O'Keefe bars spectators from recording his speech.
?There's so much real investigative journalism conservatives could be doing on government waste, incompetence, accountability, and transparency. It's pathetic that donors on the right keep handing over money for these moronic "stings". The right needs 10 more Tim Carneys. Instead, they keep churning out James O'Keefes.
?Holding Andrew Breitbart to the same standards he holds ACORN. It's a fair point.

I've noticed that ever since we've got threaded comments, the frequency and size of parenthetical conversations about topics such as the size of Epi's penis and the colour of SugarFree's urine have increased manifold. I have therefore come to the conclusion that ProL was right.

What does "Fr" stand for, FrBunny?

      1. FrBunny   16 years ago

        Frau.

BTW, Playboy running a non-nude spread of Heidi Pratt is a new low. Did you happen to blog about it?

        1. Brian Sorgatz   16 years ago

I didn't blog about that pictorial specifically. By the time it came out, I had gotten lazy. But I've blogged about another instance of a celebrity Playboy model showing less skin than some guys would have hoped. I'd say it doesn't necessarily represent a low point for Playboy. It's fascinating in an anthropological sort of way, because it reminds me of the endless drama of exhibitionism versus modesty that goes on in the minds of physically attractive women (if I truly understand women that well).

          1. Qualis Artifex Pereo   16 years ago

Are you picking up Heff's illustrated biography when it comes out? I heard there's only a certain number that are going to be printed and that they're going to cost a pretty penny. Still, they seem like they're going to be interesting.

            1. wylie   15 years ago

Interesting? You'd prolly be better off sticking with your fantasies. I think reality would be very disappointing.

I feel the same way about you.

        2. John   16 years ago

Back in the late 70s they did the same thing with Farah Fawcitt. Farah was the height of her stardom and considered the hotest woman in the world. They put her on the cover wearing nothing but a long shirt covering her breasts and showing a lot of her legs. And that was as much as the photoshoot showed.

This is not the first time they have done this.

          1. FrBunny   16 years ago

Definitely not the first time, but this was Heidi Pratt, D-List at best. Plus this is the age of Maxim, where guys can see actual celebrities in skimpy states of undress every month.

The combination of non-nude and low-rent "star" made this one pretty awful IMO.

Bin Laden directed al Qaeda's global operations from 'command center' in Pakistan By Bill Ardolino and Bill RoggioMay 7, 2011
    >Osama bin Laden directed al Qaeda's global operations from his "command center" in the northwestern Pakistani city of Abbottabad before he was killed in a US raid on May 2, according to a senior US intelligence official.
    >"This compound in Abbottabad was an active command and control center for al Qaeda's top leader and it's clear ... that he was not just a strategic thinker for the group," the official told reporters, according to Department of Defense transcript. "He was active in operational planning and in driving tactical decisions inside al Qaeda."
    >"The materials reviewed over the past several days clearly show that bin Laden remained an active leader in al Qaeda, providing strategic, operational and tactical instructions to the group," continued the official.
