I'm Shocked
Marin County, California, officials have agreed to pay $1.9 million to settle a suit brought by Peter MacFarland after he was Tasered by police officers. MacFarland fell in his home and his wife called 911. When paramedics arrived, MacFarland declined to go to the hospital and signed forms refusing medical assistance. But sheriff's deputies also arrived at his home. They heard MacFarland say he felt like shooting himself, which his attorney says was a jest, but they insisted he go to the hospital. When he refused, one of them zapped him several times with a Taser.
