Welcome to Ask a Libertarian with Reason's Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch. They are the authors of the new book The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What's Wrong With America.

Go to http://declaration2011.com to purchase, read reviews, find event dates, and more.

On June 15, 2011 Gillespie and Welch used short, rapid-fire videos to answer dozens of reader questions submitted via email, Twitter, Facebook, and Reason.com. In this episode, they answer the questions:

Kara Billar:
"Does [Nick Gillespie's leather] jacket give you libertarian super powers?"

24AheadDotCom:
"Has the Elvis estate contacted you about Misappropriation of Likeness?"

Monica Shelton:
"Where does Nick's leather jacket spend its summers?"

    Shut the fuck up lonewacko.

    Ahh, good times.

See what happens when you address the Jacket directly. It took Nick's head clean off.

    1. Kristen   14 years ago

And apparently cauterized and sanded it to smoother perfection, too!

      1. capitol l   14 years ago

It's a good look for him.

  3. Mister DNA   14 years ago

Reason's Facebook newsfeed is sort of the Bizarro world version of reason.com.

The Facebook edition of this video clip elicited several "What does this have to do with libertarianism?" responses, and only one "STFU, LoneWacko!", and that was from me.

    It's called Fan Service, bitches.

  4. Troy   14 years ago

It appears that The Jacket? is searching for a new host.

  5. Joshua Corning   14 years ago

    Wait...

    The book is out?

You guys totally got your book in print before father's Day!!!

    Excellent!!!

  7. Pro Libertate   14 years ago

I've explained this many times. Nick is a Kwittheshitz Hadenough (one who can be offended many ways at once) and, through a spice-induced metamorphosis, took the sandcows as his skin.

  8. Troy   14 years ago

    sandcows = Rather

    1. SugarFree   14 years ago

She's best classified as a variety of slugpig.

  9. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

I don't think that that was really the jacket talking. Leather doesn't throw an echo.

    1. Banjos   14 years ago

No human can withstand the real voice of The Jacket.

  10. J[o]h[nn]y L[o][n]gt[o]rs[o]   14 years ago

    Top this:

The jean jacket Frances McDormand wore to the Tony Awards spawned its own Twitter account

  11. Oso Politico   14 years ago

Why was the gremlin on the bookshelf replaced by a disco ball?

  12. 20 For Head Don't Come   14 years ago

The Jacket was smuggled in by illegal Mexican immigrants.

  13. SugarFree   14 years ago

The Jacket has always been and will always be. It was forged from the first cow who sinned by insane sky gods that wrought it with fire and blood before the morning of the world. The Jacket is. The Jacket IS.

  14. hmm   14 years ago

    Wow. A Lonewhackjob appearance.

  15. Warty   14 years ago

    Shut the fuck up, Lonewacko.

  16. Invisible Finger   14 years ago

I've seen all the imitation Jacket shows, but nothing compares to the real thing.

  17. Boxbot   14 years ago

Based on the laconic answers and echo effect on it's voice, the most likely explanation is that the Jacket is a Vorlon without its encounter suit. It appears to humans to be a leather jacket because over the course of eons of evolution, The Jacket has programmed species all over the galaxy to see it as the most badass piece of clothing in that species' mythology.

    is good
