Health Insurance Premiums Continue to Rise Under RomneyCare
Not only are Masachusetts' health insurance premiums higher than elsewhere in the U.S. on average, they've grown at a faster rate since the adoption of RomneyCare, according to a report released yesterday by the state government. The report, which was published by the state's Division of Health Care Finance & Policy, notes that for the last two years, private group insurance premiums rose by between five and 10 percent per year despite the fact that the regional consumer price index, which measures inflation on common goods and services, rose by just two percent.
This is hardly a surprise for those who've been following along: The RAND Corporation recently found that "in the absence of policy change, health care spending in Massachusetts is projected to increase about 8 percent faster than the state's GDP over the next decade." In 2009, the state's family insurance premiums were honored as the most expensive in the country. And last year, economists at Stanford and Columbia University recently found that RomneyCare "increased single-coverage employer-sponsored insurance premiums by about 6 percent in aggregate, and by about 7 percent for firms with fewer than 50 employees." The Obama administration has explicitly stated on numerous occasions that RomneyCare was the model for the federal overhaul. Given the Bay State's spiraling costs, it seems more and more likely that, thanks to ObamaCare, we can all expect higher health insurance premiums in our future.

But his hair is perfect. Come on America needs another idiot son with a proven record of failure in high office.
Thanks for sharing, although I'm not a huge Romney fan I'm a personal fan of a national health care system. For profit health systems, don't work. Health care should be just as important as infrastructure, it's a civil liberty that our taxes should help pay for. Obviously you pay more tax with poor health decisions etc.
Chill... Mitt Romney is far from an idiot. The guy started Bane Capital...
Plus, he looks great for his age.
Romney: failing upwards for America in 2012
Wow, that's a whole lot of hate for Romney. He does what he can. I'm not saying I'm a fan of the guy, but you can't say he isn't trying.

Romney 2012: Another Management Haired Ken Doll brought to you by the Republican Party
Your about four years two late and about 800 miles to far North.
The proper statement would read:
Edwards 2008: Another Ambulance Chasing Ken Doll Lawyer brought to you by the Democratic Party. Cancer-riddled wives with young children, kiss at your own risk.
He told the Examiner that he doesn't think Palin will run and that she is more of an 'entertainer' than a polician. What a fucking smug dickhead.
I'm having a hard time deciding if Romney or Chuck Schumer should get the prize of biggest smug dickhead in American politics.
That is close. Schummer is just downright evil. Romney is just a smug asshole. He is the kind of guy who hits on your wife at a cocktail party. Schummer is the boss who tells her she has to sleep with him to keep her job. Both vile, just in different ways.
Debbie Wasserman-Shultz (the new head of the DNC) is slowly creeping her way up in the ranks of the smug dickheads of political life. She will give Shumer a run for his title pretty soon, you can book it.
Republicans who vote against public funding for abortion are making war on women. Demcorats who do, well they are just voting to keep the boobs happy so they can do other great things. She is fucking awful.
She had this to say yesterday-
She has a ways to go to catch Schumer, but she's definitely on track.
I don't think so. What makes Schumer so infuriating is his cleverness and faux-rational demeanor. He argues for the most hideous statist policies with a calm, seemingly reasonable tone that, if I didn't already distrust him for other reasons, I would probably have a hard time disagreeing with. He is everything that the lefties hoped Obama would be (except black).
DWS is just another nutroots character, throwing out the most extreme accusations at those who disagree with her. She's going to flame out in a couple of years just like all the others like her have.
Nissan also has several US plants and the FX 35 is made in TN I believe by US workers making it a US car.
Spin it anyway you like; but, Nissan is NOT an American Company.
The FX series is built in Japan.

Sucks to pull stuff out of your ... and be wrong.
But honestly, I hope he is right about Palin, if only so I don't have to listen to my liberal friends go on about her for another several years. I wish I could never hear about how anyone either likes or hates Palin ever again.
I know what you mean. I am kind of cruel. I enjoy their pain and neurosis. She brings out the absolute worst in them and really seems to make them genuinly miserable.
You're right. This whole mess has just caused me to cringe at the very mention of her name, not even because of her personally, I'm just very very tired of hearing anything positive OR negative. I can't even bring myself to type her name...
He told the Examiner that he doesn't think Palin will run and that she is more of an 'entertainer' than a polician.
Considering she quit her job as governor to become a TV personality, I don't see how you can dispute his statement.
Except that she has a huge national constituency and would get a ton of votes if she ran. Last I looked getting votes is the object of being a politician. She is most definitely a politician.
I don't think you could have found a more honest picture of the man.
The "Fudge" picture with the rubber gloves is always good.
So, what this proves is just how pernicious the private health insurance racket really is. An unmitigated evil. Romneycare AND Obamacare are not solutions. It is becoming increasingly clear what REALLY needs to be done about american health care
what this proves is just how pernicious the private health insurance racket really is,
....hmmm...not sure if serious...
Ummm, hate to play Devil's Advocate, but:

Irrelevant. How does Romneycare's price increases compare to medical price increases elsewhere in the country? Medical price increases are almost always higher than general inflation.
Apples to apples, please.
Such piddling concerns cannot get in the way of another hit piece on Romney.
Still waiting for them to address Paul Ryan voting for the Patriot Act extension.
The last 3 years the overall index in the US for healthcare has risen 8 and 8.5% so MA is lower there. Their premiums are the highest but they were before Romneycare as well.
2/3's of MA residents like Romneycare and 76% of employers provide coverage up from 70% in 2005. US avg is about 60% and dropping over the last 5 years.
MA looks like something good has been happening there.
Higher premiums and longer wait times. Yeah, something right indeed.
So we shouldn't try to cover more people due to lower cost increases than the national average and negligible wait time changes? That makes sense
I guess that we should change the future strategy. A new set of laws will improve this domain for sure. natural enhancement pill
Sure, RomneyCare has seen high annual premium increases. What they don't mention is that the same was true before RomneyCare was enacted. As a resident of the Commonwealth, and a former health plan administrator for a small company, let me add my experience to the mix.
Before Romney care we regularly saw yearly increases in our premiums of 10-15%. One year the increase was 24%. As a result, to continue to provide benefits to our employees we would resort to cutting back on the plans. First we switched from a POS to HMO. Then we started increasing co-pays for Rx and visits. Finally we had to increase yearly deductibles, all to keep our increases down to 3-4%. That's right, switching to a lower tier of service was still more expensive that the previous year's premiums.
Since RomneyCare was enacted, our company found the premium increases to have leveled off (about 7-8% a year). Meanwhile, I was able to start a new company without worrying about my family of 4 having no insurance during the startup phase. However there is a perverse side effect here. If I pay myself more than $67k per year, I lose eligibility for subsidized insurance (about $300/mo) and am thrown into the general pool where the least expensive policy costs $960/mo. As a result, if you make between $67k and $75k you are better off taking a pay cut. It seems to me it would make more sense to provide a sliding subsidy that would make the transition a little less painful.
Thanks for the real-world experience and info. That's quite a spread.
We could bring the insurance companies to their knees and reduce costs if everyone gave up their insurance for a month.

Because they don't want him to get the GOP nomination, obviously. Unless Reason is suddenly of the opinion that statements out of the White House can be trusted as fact.
Last time ANYBODY looked (if you care to take a look) life expectancy in Massachusetts was about 4 years LONGER than that in South Carolina or Alaska, or the other states you "Reason" us to follow.
Gee, I wonder why?
The difference is greater than it is between the USA and Bulgaria.
So, sir: To put this in the terms set in your hsadline: You want the US to look like Bulgaria?
"Last time ANYBODY looked (if you care to take a look) life expectancy in Massachusetts was about 4 years LONGER than that in South Carolina or Alaska, or the other states you "Reason" us to follow.
Gee, I wonder why?"
Well...
MA: 79.8
AK: 78.5
SC: 75.8
Alaska isn't as far behind as you suggested, so maybe you haven't looked in awhile. Meanwhile:
ND: 79.8
NH: 79.5
D.C.: 73.8
So maybe there's more to it than just "forcing everyone to buy insurance makes you live longer," dolt.
Lets see. Over 98% of Massachsetts residents are covered now vs. US average of 83%. And this for a 7% increase in premiums? Granted Mass had more insured to begin with than the US average but still this is a POSITIVE MIRACLE and you right wing nazi nuts ought to just drop dead.
Yes, if you force more people to get covered, more people will get covered. If coverage is a shit deal, you haven't done them any favors, so don't be so quick to pat yourself on the back.
7% my ass. My rates have more than doubled since the law passed.
And they continue to rise every year.
Who the fuck actually believes that 7% crap? Not anyone in Massachusetts who actually bleeds out every month from the skyrocketing costs.
Let the 7% fiction go. Everyone will be paying at least double what they are now, and eventually much more than that.
