Being from Wisconsin, this one hits close to home. Not bad compared to previous ones.
All Wisconsinites are not rabid, slogan-chanting socialists, then? This is not the impression I'm getting from The TV. Is The TV lying?
No, most people are not chanting any slogans or running away to Illinois.
I saw Michael Moore on The TV, and he said there would be an insurrection in Wisconsin today. Students walking out of classes, massive strikes, cats sleeping with dogs...untrue?
The cops seem to be siding with the demonstrators and refusing to enforce the law. Doesn't that kind of look like an insurrection?
The cops seem to be playing it pretty neutral, from what I've seen. Then again, they were exempt from the collective-bargaining aspects of the bill. Cop strikes are a rarity in America anyway. That action crosses a line that virtually everyone from all political stripes views as sacrosanct.*
*Not counting anarchists, of course, but they are too insignificant to matter.
*Not counting anarchists, of course, but they are too insignificant to matter.
Uh, about 50% of the White House Czars would seem to disagree.
"The cops seem to be playing it pretty neutral, from what I've seen."
Not according to the Wall Street Journal:
But the threat of disobedience issued by that COP FOR LABOR raises a much more troubling possibility: that the police are aiding a political movement that is breaking the law in order to disrupt the legislative process. If that is the case, then what is going on in Madison is not so much anarchy as an attempted coup d'?tat--a challenge to Wisconsin's republican form of government by those who have been entrusted to safeguard it.

what is going on in Madison is not so much anarchy as an attempted coup d'?tat
That's not at all hyperbolic.
Another day with public sector workers chanting and drumming, college students skipping classes, etc. Just another day.
Lousy college students. Back in my day, we skipped class to smoke dope and drink cheap beer.
I marched on the Capitol one fine Spring day to protest a tuition increase. Lots of pot, impassioned speeches, thousands of us having a good and righteous time. They raised our tuition anyway.
Why did you care? You didn't pay tuition anyway, your parents or the taxpayers did. Those who actually pay their own way through school are too busy working to have time for silly protests.
Damn FIBs
Geez, I was expecting Duki to have the first comment. Nice surprise.
Good morning, retard!
Just trying to lend a hand...
Excellent.
Here on the Pacific coast, I'm a little nervous about the tsunami warning. Please keep me in your prayers?or your death wishes, whichever.
Good luck.
Better get to higher ground.
About two hours after the fact, my neighborhood is not waterlogged. It looks like I'm in the clear.
By the way, have you made progress after joining Charmin Squeezers Anonymous? Or are you the unrepentant Charlie Sheen of Charmin squeezers?
I find this entry serviceable. Kudos.
I've seen worse.
Gotta hand it to Chip: This is certainly a Friday.
Obama is white?
Yes. Calling him white is just as accurate as calling him black.
When I think of this story, I think of how the the French revolution would have worked had they followed the same logic as the one in Wisconsin, the aristocrats would be storming the Bastille because they are not earning enough from the peasant taxes.
Do most people seriously want to pay higher taxes for a small group who earn more money than them ???
Yes they do. A good portion of the country has gone mad.
They'll change their minds when they get the actual bill. It's already happening. Now is the time for optimism, not more of the same dreary "libertarian" pessimism. Not that you are a libertarian.
I am always optimistic about the country. And yes I think we will pull out of it. But that doesn't change the fact that a large majority of the 35 or so percent of the country who consider themselves to be liberal have gone mad. They really have. You can't have an honest debate with them anymore.
Yeah, but many of them label themselves as "independent" voters, and they are bailing on the Democrats in droves. Philosophy may fail them, but they can do basic math.
How dare you try to enforce your bourgeois facts and math. The only truth is the revolutionary truth!!
Is this akin to the they'll-like-it-once-it's-law comment from Pelosi regarding the PPACA?
But, but, but, they provide an invaluable service to us. They teach our kids how to be collectivist wage-slave laborers, and to bow down to those with "authority".
IT'S FOR THE KIDS, MAN! THINK ABOUT THE KIDS!
http://www.sudval.org/
On Monday Wednesdays and Fridays when liberals want more money for schools, every school is underfunded and struggling. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends, the schools are doing a wonderful job and how dare anyone think that school employees should face wage cuts.
I'm convinced the entire public school system is as antiquated as the one room schoolhouses of 100 years ago. Time to "MoveOn".[org]
Read Jacques Barazon's From Dawn to Decadence sometime. It is a great cultural history of the last 500 years. Towards the end he says that he thinks that public education will end sometime soon. The public is not going to tolerate spending this kind of money for so little of a result for much longer. Like most things, Barazon is probably right about that.
There was a short news segment about Khan Academy last night. (Also see: educator.com) It struck me (as it has previously) that we really are stuck in a 19th century educational model.
There is absolutely zero reason to keep this expensive, inefficient model - kids can learn more than they currently are in half the time, and spend the rest of the time in fun voluntary activities (sports, clubs) where they can learn social skills. Education needs to be re-thought from the ground up.
^^ THIS ^^
Yes. Look at home schooling. Those kids are generally grades ahead of their piers and seem to spend a lot less time and money getting there. And those are results achieved piecemeal by amateurs. Imagine if you really put some thought and effort into it.
As always when it comes to this "education" disaster, I like to(re)introduce a teacher I wish I had, John Taylor Gatto.
It struck me (as it has previously) that we really are stuck in a 19th century educational model.
We absolutely are. The whole structure is patterned after the German model from the turn of the 20th century (at the time, the Germans were arguably the most highly educated society in the world), while the summers off are patterned after 19th century agricultural needs--the kids had the summers off to help in the fields, not to hang out at the mall all day.
The whole thing really needs to be reformed from top to bottom.
If they can learn the same in half the time they can learn twice as much in the same amount of time. They need to learn more. Unfortunately for them they'll have to make up for decades to Stupid before them.
...decades of Stupid...
See what I mean?!
At least half of them are not capable of learning more, what they need is vocational training.
I don't doubt that vocational tracks would benefit many, but I think our current system is dumbing down students.
@Baked
KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!one!
/public schoolteachers
IT'S FOR THE KIDS, MAN! THINK ABOUT THE KIDS!
No,
It's for the cowboy poets, you mean republicans will make those fine people cease to exist.
the aristocrats would be storming the Bastille
Interesting point. I have not heard anyone else put it that way. Wisconsin is the opposite of the standard "labor unrest" story. Rich people threatening to go on strike against their servants!
I would equate it to the civil servants and city dwellers in Imperial Rome or ancient China angry that the rural peasants want to give up less of their harvest every year.
I agree with John on this. The public unions are a lot of things, but "rich" isn't one of them. Spoiled lazy thugs? Yup. Rich? Nope.
"Rich" in comparison with their counterparts in the "private sector," which is the substance of the debate.
Using the success of how educated the children are as a metric, such as reading ability, v. how much they are being paid to successfully impart their wisdom, yeah I think "rich" applies.
Sometimes things are relative. Two-Three months of straight vacation coupled with the possibility of retiring before 60 with a pension is far beyond what most Americans, and now even college-educated Americans in the private sector can hope to achieve. They may not be Facebook billionaires, but free time for truncated effort and poor ROI is worth a helluva lot to some people. Heck, I'd price retirement at 55 at approximately 5 million inflated greenbacks assuming I make it to 75.
That's more overpaid than rich.
so you agree to the changes...
Ah, Reason. Where people living in modest houses, driving older cars, and able to get by with decent health insurance and retirement plans are considered "rich"... if they do something ideologically impure.
I almost chuckled. A+.
I agree, although I'm grading on a curve...
I'm normally a fairly peaceful guy, but if Michael Moore wants to go to war in the streets, and he'd actually be there himself... I'd have to consider at least signing up for the "artillery" in the pro-taxpayer force. You could probably lob some fairly oversize and overripe fruits (including watermelons) at that dude and not do too much serious harm. You'd have to be worried about the collateral damage when the melons bounced off though.
You could just get MM to leave the area by setting up a trail of cheeseburgers. It would be the nonviolent way.
LULZ!
Why not just smack him in his fat, lying mouth with the wide side of a 2x4 ?
Er,...maybe a 2x6 or a 2x8.
Sheet of Drywall?
We should try boiling the oil out of him. We should be able to get a whole barrel of crude out of that parasitic fatheaded non-union-hiring private-schooling overpaid fascist hypocrite.
The *thin* side hurts more...just sayin'....
counting the geometric progression, the best is a 3 inch high heel...
just a thought...
it is really a 1 3/4 by 3 3/4
Do bowling balls count as overripe fruit? I'd like to throw those at him.
I am posting this on my facebook.
I am just saying, 'yes it is that good'.
It is not really funny, but it is succinct.
Can I be your friend? Or follower? Or whatever Facebookers do to each other?
As far as the Friday Funnies go, it does not get much better than this.
If I were sage, I would say
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Not bad, Chip (normal Reasonoid Friday Funnies disclaimers apply)
I forgot. Thanks for getting that.
The public worker class is like school in the summertime.
It's good, but not funny, if you know what I mean.
I rather like these two, as far as political cartoons about WI go:
One about the unions
One about the Dems
That large sucking sound is money going from State Treasuries to the Unionistas.
i thought it was Mikey entering "your favorite fast food establishment"...
I hit 'like' and what it posts to facebook is a thumbnail of some dude that has nothing to do with the comic.
It makes perfect sense that Beavis's dad is a teacher.
This cartoon brought to you by Koch Ko.

Film is a different medium than print. Rather than characters making speeches, Rand's philosophy ought to be shown via the characters doing something interesting.

As quickly when you start preparing or even the large day, deciding on your wedding party attire gets an urgent require for most brides. Nobody would like to wait. even though dealing with wedding party strain and preparations, be positive to enable your self a lot of time to attempt on completely different designs and discover the a single who says "you".
The theme of your wedding party would be an significant place when choosing that unique dress. have you been obtaining married for the beach? If so, you may pick a gentle airy style. Have you made the decision on the formal affair? Then by all means, go all out and put on a light attire covered in silk and lace. what ever kind of celebration your wedding party will be, your attire will perform among the most significant roles in it!With the cost of weddings, some couples attempt and minimize back again by creating their personal flowers, or purchase some wedding dress in a specialized dress shop at a high price, but why don't you try to buy a cheap wedding dresse online directly. Give company a thing to start looking forward to once they see you for your initial time walking along the aisle. And unless it is really unavoidable, don't allow your potential husband see your attire whatsoever prior to the wedding. They say it's poor luck as well as if that's merely a superstition, it definitely does spoil his surprise!
