Bok, you retard, just go eat some Drano. FDR was a Nazi for real and a Red at the same time, just like Mozart. Why do you even submit anything to reason besides their stupid Leftertarian editors lapping up your bullshit and cutting a check with donations from hallucinogenic addled trust fund babies? You have pictures of The Jacket accepting food stamps, don't you!

    1. .   14 years ago

    2. Mr Whipple???   14 years ago

      Drano? I prefer Ajax.

    3. capitol l   14 years ago

      You're angry for a delusion.

    4. Rich   14 years ago

Wow, Suki. Kinda, um, irritable today. Surely you don't mean *all* that.

Chip is pretty good with the facial expressions.

    5. Almanian   14 years ago

      Good morning, Suki!

    6. Gary   14 years ago

What happened to your daily post of"good morning Reason"?

  2. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

Why are George Plimpton and Nina Totenberg watching FDR get laser tooth whitening done by his invisible dentist?

Anachronisms: In 1937, they didn't have plasma televisions, sectional sofas or t-shirts.

    1. some guy   14 years ago

Did they have video recording devices?

    2. Ice Nine   14 years ago

No, they didn't. But in 2011 they do have historical documentaries on television.

      1. Ice Nine   14 years ago

(lamer alert) Didn't see some guy's before posting mine.

      2. pants   14 years ago

lies. unless you count Larry the Cable guy does America as a historical documentary

    3. squarooticus   14 years ago

The laser tooth whitening line made me chuckle.

  3. Ice Nine   14 years ago

Don't know how I would have ever figured that cartoon out without the asterisk explanation.

  4. Johnny [Longtorso]   14 years ago

Ha [ha] ha [ha] ha [ha]. I [get] it.

  5. sage   14 years ago

I like the symbolism of the suck ass commie union stooges wearing red, though.

    1. Mr Whipple???   14 years ago

I thought they were wearing red because it is the color of the U of Wisconsin, but I like your reason better.

    2. cynical   14 years ago

Like the real ones in Wisconsin?

  6. sage   14 years ago

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  7. TheOtherSomeGuy   14 years ago

I like how even the dog is growling at the TV.

    1. .   14 years ago

If you look closely at the dog's eyes, you can tell that it's actually looking at its handler, just out of frame.

Finally! A Friday Funny worth sharing. I was beginning to lose hope.

  12. Mr Whipple???   14 years ago

What does the guy have in his hands. Looks like he's pulling the cork from a wine bottle.

    1. Fatty Bolger   14 years ago

He's getting ready to piss on the TV.

      1. rather   14 years ago

        I don't think she's into urolagnia

      2. Bob   14 years ago

It's a penis pump. Don't you know that all union members have ED?

The note from the doctor is so they can skip work and go to the protests.

  13. Fatty Bolger   14 years ago

I get it! They're all zombies. Hilarious!

  14. capitol l   14 years ago

Why the script pad on the table, are these people oxycontin addicts?

    1. Mr Whipple???   14 years ago

Nah. There were doctors writing absentee excuses for the "striking" teachers.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

Clearly the teachers union is being portrayed here as addicts. The man is "shooting up" (as they say on the street). Look at the track marks on his arms.

And possibly fetishists, too. I think that's a mannequin sitting on the sofa next to him.

        1. capitol l   14 years ago

If you use your imagination real hard you can transform Chip Bok into the Ralph Steadman of our time.

      2. kwh   14 years ago

We all know getting a fake doctor's note is only OK if it's Flush Rimjob, getting all dosed up to bring you Excellence in Liecasting with Talent on Loan from Blob.

XKCD is the real winner today.

    1. Spoonman.   14 years ago

Eh, SMBC is still better today, even though this is a good day for XKCD. XKCD's been slipping.

  16. P Brooks   14 years ago

Shouldn't there be a label saying "DOG" with an arrow?

    1. Rich   14 years ago

      Good gracious, no!

That would obviously be incendiary rhetoric.

  17. Bee Tagger   14 years ago

Geez, as long as it involves his penis, Bob Dole will shill for anything.

    1. Kuwanki   14 years ago

Tagger you degenerate bastard! Don't you think Bob Dole has a RIGHT to an erection??? i used to buy into all this libertarian bullshit, until some progressive angel told me i had a right to get laid. It turned my life around. And if you have a RIGHT to get laid (which you do), then ipso facto, you MUST have a right to an erection (it only stands to reason, er, so to speak). i remember my 9th grade PE teacher, he used to tell me, "Kid, you can't fake a hardon." Boy; those were the days...

  18. mr simple   14 years ago

As I tried to explain in a previous similar thread, FDR was not actually against public escort unions. If you read the actual letter he wrote (or at least an accurate copy) he says he's only against them having the ability to strike. He still thought they should be able to collectively bargain, just with some limitations like not being able to shut down government with a strike. He may have arrived at half of a correct conclusion, but his reasoning was pure statist. Claiming that he was actually against public unions is disingenuous and actually hurts our arguments to the same by making us look like opportunistic liars.

Also, FDR was some Nazi. He openly praised Hitler's governing style, up to the point when he started killing Jews.

    1. mr simple   14 years ago

I mean, come on, both Hitler an Lennin broke up the unions when they came to power. Once the common man was in charge the people would just be stricken against themselves, as the reasoning goes. Yet I don't think we can hold up these as examples for our side.

      1. mr simple   14 years ago

        Striking, not stricken.

    2. sloopyinca   14 years ago

You know who else killed Jews?

      1. Barely Suppressed Rage   14 years ago

        Pharoah?

      2. Yahweh   14 years ago

I did. Gotta keep those bitches in line, yo.

      3. Almanian   14 years ago

        Palestinians?

    3. sarcasmic   14 years ago

I can see why he'd be against public escort unions going on strike.

      He'd never get laid.

  19. Bradley   14 years ago

This one is actually pretty funny if you crop out all the dialogue. I chuckled at the preview thumbnail.

Wow, that one was almost funny. Just about fifty too many labels, however.

As noted above, Chip forgot to hang a sign on the dog that says "Dog", and on the woman that says "Nina Totenberg".

Otherwise, C+ for a Friday Funny, Chipper.

better would be Obama polishing his Nobel Peace Prize with CNN on in the background showing pictures from different riots from different countries.

  25. kwh   14 years ago

    Actual context of quote:

    http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu.....?pid=15445

"Organizations of Government employees have a logical place in Government affairs.

The desire of Government employees for fair and adequate pay, [...] [and other] objectives of a
proper employee relations policy, is basically no different from that of employees in private industry."

    1. Amakudari   14 years ago

Those two quotes are not really the context but the concern-trolling. "I understand your views, but..." I don't see any uncertainty in FDR's position; he seems firmly against collective bargaining and strikes by public workers:

Organizations of Government employees have a logical place in Government affairs.

The desire of Government employees for fair and adequate pay ... and other objectives ... is basically no different from that of employees in private industry. Organization on their part to present their views on such matters is both natural and logical, but meticulous attention should be paid to the special relationships and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the Government.

All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations. ...

Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the Government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable.

Friday Funnies are the best. I've been checking up on some of the ones I had missed. You Really don't see a lot of people think like some of these comics do. Comics in general to me are great. I LOVE the vintage comics probably the best though. I even have some of these comic iphone cases. These cases would fit really well with in good comic lover or Friday funnies lovers.

    Keep'em coming. Thanks
