Payne, damn it, why don't you just shoot yourself? If poison is cheaper, just do that, or go catch AIDS from Kurt Loder so you can have some fun on your way out of our misery.

    Good morning reason!

    1. anarch   14 years ago

And peace on earth to men of good will.

      Good morning.

      1. "   14 years ago

        That was almost Episiarchian, Suki.

  2. a penny a day keep Obama away   14 years ago

I kind of like it but that's my love of surrealism talking.

    1. The Ghost of Salvador Dal   14 years ago

      Yes! That duck head rocks!

      1. Dan Cats   14 years ago

You mean the muscular guns/blow-driers wearing hats?

  3. sage   14 years ago

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  4. sage   14 years ago

Is this supposed to be a dig at cash for clunkers?

    1. Almanian   14 years ago

      Also, lol!

    2. Zeke   14 years ago

That was funnier than the comic, but it wasn't funny.

    3. El Duderino   14 years ago

Cash for Clunkers is a self contained nugget of humor. Its as if they officially legislated a joke.

  5. Ice Nine   14 years ago

    DNR

  6. SIV   14 years ago

Where's the crying Statue of Liberty?

    FAIL

    1. ClubMedSux   14 years ago

As a strong believer that every editorial cartoon needs a tear, AND a strong believer that you can never have enough un-funny political cartoons, I offer my alternative Friday Funny.

      1. Fiscal Meth   14 years ago

Do one with a dr giving some end of life counseling to obamacare.

        1. ClubMedSux   14 years ago

That's far too clever for a political cartoon...

          1. Bucky   14 years ago

i did especially like the "Hopey Changey" button

      2. Lisa   14 years ago

good. But I would like to see it with a death panel giving the final verdict.

  7. anarch   14 years ago

Why is the black guy at the back of the "bus"?

    R___st.

    1. some guy   14 years ago

Actually they're twins. The one in the back just returned from Cancun.

  8. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

PPACA is going to change the way we tow our cars?

    1. anarch   14 years ago

      And our liens.

  9. avsteele   14 years ago

Poor Payne! I actually laugh at every one of these now, just thinking what kind of slings and arrows the poor man is going to have to suffer in the comment threads.

  10. Donald Trump   14 years ago

Why is Rosie O'Donnell being carried out on a stretcher, and what does that have to do w/ ObamaCare?

    1. Meeeee   14 years ago

Lol! NICE! Not very timely, but still, NICE!!

  11. Jerry   14 years ago

    It's funny, because it's a GM truck.

    1. Fatty Bolger   14 years ago

      NOW I get it!

  12. mr simple   14 years ago

Wait, is this a continuation of a theme from your other cartoons, like you've drawn an ambulance so often to represent obamacare that you felt it has become it's own symbol? That's meta.

    1. Mensan   14 years ago

I thought you meant it was the continuation of the theme of not being funny.

      1. mr simple   14 years ago

        That was implied.

  13. Mango Punch   14 years ago

Payne, please start plagiarizing funnier artists.

  14. Mango Punch   14 years ago

Payne, please save us the pain and start plagiarizing funnier cartoonists.

  15. Mango Punch   14 years ago

    That was Paynefull

    1. Dan Cats   14 years ago

      ^ That was Payne-esque.

  16. capitol l   14 years ago

Why make the penises carrying the gurney anthropomorphic, but not the ambulance? Why not make the ambulance frown or something...you know, for the kids.

    1. Dan Cats   14 years ago

      O

  17. SugarFree   14 years ago

I seriously doubt two men could carry an ambulance. Or that they would have a stretcher large enough and strong enough to do so.

    1. Tim   14 years ago

Yeah and the engine is the heavy end, so it would tip over if they carried it like that.

      1. SugarFree   14 years ago

        Exactly.

      2. Cartoon Mechanics   14 years ago

Nuh uh. The 36 Million Uninsured? fell to the bottom, redistributing the weight.

      3. Fiscal Meth   14 years ago

Not to mention the ambulance's Fez would have fallen off.

      4. El Duderino   14 years ago

The doctor removed the engine. . . for the insurance compensation.

        1. Fiscal Meth   14 years ago

          +100(in medicare reimbursements of course)

  18. Tim   14 years ago

Are modern editorial cartoons so poor because they can't be smutty and/or profane?
Because if they could be there are several excellent humorists who post here that Reason ought to try out.

    1. SugarFree   14 years ago

I've dealt with political cartoons going back a couple of hundred years. They were always this bad. I suspect they were used originally to make political points to the illiterate, and they never really progressed past that point.

Although their main aesthetic fault is that the medium seems incapable of generating the sublime.

      1. Tim   14 years ago

I'm thinking of Barrack and Michelle in Cialis bathtubs watching the Egyptian riots: " Because you never know when the time is right to fuck Mubarak over". Then they hold hands.
        Too obtuse?

        1. SugarFree   14 years ago

Probably not to the right audience. It's the mass audience that is the problem. By the time that you make something that everyone can understand and inject your spin on it, it's a dead letter artistically.

Despite my completely and utter inability to draw, I was made the editorial cartoonist for my high school newspaper. This decision on the teacher's part baffles me to this day.

          1. anarch   14 years ago

Probably not to the right audience. It's the mass audience that is the problem. By the time that you make something that everyone can understand and inject your spin on it, it's a dead letter artistically.

This is dismayingly broadly applicable to political theory.

        2. Rich   14 years ago

No, and it's acute as well.

  19. Wesley   14 years ago

Good composition. It is definitely more aesthetically pleasing than most editorial cartoons.

    1. Other Derp   14 years ago

      I will agree with that.

  20. Punky Romo   14 years ago

LOL< no doubt this is gonna be a good day for sure.

    1. generic Brand   14 years ago

Do you base all of life's decisions on the outcome of Friday Funnies?

      Now that's actually hilarious.

  21. domoarrigato   14 years ago

I haven't been around to make fun of the friday funnies in a long time - this cartoon sucks! wow i feel better now.

  22. Other Derp   14 years ago

OK, normally I give these some credit, but apart from the premise being so overdone, the execution seems childish. A little Dr. Seuss nostalgia, but I don't think it was intentional.

  23. Bucky   14 years ago

i like the ambulance idea but, put it out in front of "Hudson's Repairs" with the hood up and the engine sitting outside in a puddle of oil. Hudson is standing there in coveralls cleaning his hands on a dirty rag. Obama is standing there, arms crossed with a squinty-eyed look of distrust. Hudson says to him "It's all covered under your Unconstitution Warranty."

    1. Bucky   14 years ago

      oops 'Unconstitutional Warranty'

    2. Vermont Gun Owner   14 years ago

      That sounds pretty good.

  24. Almanian   14 years ago

So when are you going to start NOT posting the Friday Funnies again, so we can comment on THAT.

Cause that's always a lot more fun than these awful comics. Good Lord...

    Oh, happy Friday, everyone!

    1. Tim   14 years ago

      What he said.

  25. Mongo   14 years ago

I actually like Payne's loose rendering style. That's about it though....

  26. heller   14 years ago

You guys just don't understand the deeper meaning of Payne's work. He is trying to represent the decay and impotency of Detroit itself through horrible editorial cartoons.

    1. Paul   14 years ago

Oh shit, I thought it was a cartoon about alternative transportation.

      1. O'bammy   14 years ago

Light rail WILL save the future!

  27. Paul   14 years ago

Would have been funnier had Obamacare been denied treatment.

  28. El Duderino   14 years ago

This is the setup for the inevitable RIP Obamacare headstone.

  29. Chaos Punk   14 years ago

Universal healthcare makes a lot of sense.

  30. granite countertop   14 years ago

Every day we face with countertop, you can have a high quality of life with granite countertop of yalitongstone, but we will also very pleased if you can see Huaxingstone's granite countertop

  31. Batman iPhone Cases   14 years ago

Obamacare will need more than that. Friday Funnies are the best. I've been checking up on some of the ones I had missed. You Really don't see a lot of people think like some of these comics do.

Comics in general to me are great. I LOVE the vintage comics probably the best though. I even have some of these comic iphone cases. These cases would fit really well with in good comic lover or Friday funnies lovers.

I wish Universal healthcare really made a lot of sense.... For many reasons it does not

    Keep them coming. Thanks

Get government replica uggs out of education and kids will get educated or fake uggs for sale not, as their parents desire. More of them will actually become educated without government than do now with it.
