            no its about convictions

Bullshit. If it were about convictions, then Obama would have stopped the indefinite detention without trials that started under Bush. Actually, the current AG has gone out of his way to let the American people know that and sentence (or lack of one) coming from our court system and/or tribunals will have no bearing on how long we detain people, hence whether it is a tribunal or a federal court where someone is tried is irrelevant. All that matters is the whim of the DoJ, DHS and DoD.

            Promises. Promises.

My sympathy for state workers whose pensions would be slashed is very small. Sure they agreed to a contract but that contract was with a thief, and they should know going into that contract it is only as good as the powers that be at any given time.

        1. Nick   14 years ago

That should have been below Alamanian's 11:45. When does squirrel season start?

            1. Almanian   14 years ago

It's always squirrel season at my house. C'mon over and we'll off some with extreme prejudice!

I found that article depressing exactly for the "BUT, BUT IT'S A CONTRACT!!!!11!" angle. Um, yeah, so's a credit card...but sometimes in bankruptcy those don't get paid off. Your pension is different how....?

Expulsion upheld for Clovis wrestler accused in "butt-drag" case

The alleged victim told Clovis police that Hill rammed two fingers into his anus during wrestling practice in July. Hill, however, told police he was employing a legitimate wrestling move called a "butt-drag" when he grabbed the boy's butt cheek -- not his anus.

Officially, the school board board Wednesday upheld a Jan. 14 ruling by a three-member school panel that concluded Hill, a senior, had sexually assaulted a freshman teammate.

In Vermont, the Democratic majority contemplates utopian state healthcare, aka "single payor" :

Michelle Obama's 'Get Moving' Program Linked to Pedestrian Deaths

WASHINGTON -- The Governors Highway Safety Association says pedestrian deaths increased in the first half of 2010 and the First Lady's program to get Americans to be more active could be partly responsible.

Governors Highway Safety Administration spokesman Jonathan Adkins told 630 WMAL that Michelle Obama is "trying to get us to walk to work and exercise a little bit more. While that's good, it also increases our exposure to risk."

After four straight years of steady declines, pedestrian deaths were up during the first six months of 2010, the latest figures available to be studied.

    http://wmal.com/Article.asp?id=2087141

    1. sloopyinca   14 years ago

Well, if we weren't so overtaxed for gasoline and it was allowed to sell in a truly free market, these people would be driving to the gym instead of walking.

Also, could this really have to do with the continued increase in roadside fruit stands and people hawking flowers, rugs, stuffed animals, etc on virtually every street corner in California? I call for immediate government regulation! Someone has to protect these people. And their children!!! What about the children!!!

    2. Cyto   14 years ago

Sounds pretty suspect to me. The notion that more than 50 people changed anything about their habits because of the first lady's "get Moving" program is sketchy at best, then tying that to an increase in pedestrian deaths? Not buying that.

      1. Barely Suppressed Rage   14 years ago

        +1

When I read this story this morning, I thought it was quite the stretch to attribute pedestrian accidents with Michelle Obama's efforts to get people more active.

I mean, I'm no fan of the Obamas, that's for damn sure, but it's a pretty silly argument.

    Critics Slam NBC-Comcast Deal

    http://dailycaller.com/2011/01.....a-mergers/

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Department of Justice (DOJ), and five state attorneys general have given the green light for media provider Comcast to buy a 51 percent share of NBC Universal. The nod came with plenty of regulatory requirements aimed at safeguarding Comcast's competitors and monitoring the burgeoning online video market.

Those regulations were based on concerns that a merger between Comcast and NBC will stifle free speech and competition. [OM: Bwa ha ha ha!!!] The only problem is that there is little evidence supporting those fears. History shows media mergers of this scale, or media consolidation, have a dismal track record of success.

The citics' sudden concern with "competition" and "free speech" is sooooo touching...

Hey squirrels, why is there no H&R link on main page articles? To get from a main page article includes hitting back, which every time one comments means hitting back another time. This wouldn't be so bad if the pages didn't take so long to load(why this is, nobody knows). Could we please have an H&R button on the pages like before? Right after the revamp you could use the 'archives' button to link to H&R, but no more. Why?

    Obama's approval ratings improve.

Especially when adding the new [Congress] make-up to his face.

Great, we got like 50 thousand new threads dumped all at once. Way to go.

I must have told you a million times -- don't exaggerate!

a retired 65-year-old independent ... disapproves of the way the president?for whom he voted in 2008?is handling the economy, but he still has "faith in him."

I hear this kind of stuff a lot, both from real people and from the media. I'm beginning to think it's -- sorry to say this -- a form of pollyannaish racism, similar to spinning "child at risk" into "child at hope". Perhaps some commenter who has "faith in him" would enlighten me.

Remember, "faith" is what you have when you have no factual basis for your belief.

Saying you have faith in Obama to do a good job is admitting that you have no factual basis for believing Obama will do a good job.

Fuck Nick Cage and the shitty airplane he flew in on. Or motorcycle he rode in on. Or any form of transportation that got him here.

Derision Over Flatulence Was Stabbing Motive

I believe the reason he stabbed all of those people is because of all of the vitriolic rhetoric coming from the right from people like Rush and O'Reily. And while he may never have listened to either talk show host, it doesn't change the facts.
