Paul Ryan, David Brooks, and the Size of Government

Superannuated Semite-slanderer Helen Thomas spoke at an "anti-Arab bias workshop" in Detroit yesterday, and the Detroit Free Press brings us her brilliant remarks:

"I can call a president of the United States anything in the book but I can't touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank," Thomas said. "No American would tolerate that ? white-only roads?"

"The Zionists have to understand that's their country, too. Palestinians were there long before any European Zionists?"

In a speech that drew a standing ovation, Thomas talked about "the whole question of money involved in politics."

"We are owned by propagandists against the Arabs. There's no question about that. Congress

, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion. They put their money where their mouth is?We're being pushed into a wrong direction in every way."

This woman sat in the front row of the White House briefing room for decades.

On the one hand, I get the egalitarian argument, but on the other hand, we don't expect Indians on Indian reservations to move aside for white people who want to get in on the casino action.

Israel wasn't a natural state, it was explicitly created with the intent of being a place where Jews were not a minority given how shoddily they were treated in many of the places where they were minorities; handing over power to a group of people who were enthusiastically allied with the Nazis in WW2 seems like letting poachers into the endangered species preserve in the name of fairness.

People who whine about Israel strike me as about on par with people that whine about black history month or whatever.

David Brooks is the anti-libertarian, socially conservative and skeptical of economic conservatives.

The last column I read by him was about the horrors of sexting. If that's the worst problem right now, I think we should be happy.

He seems to be of the Thomas Friedman mindset, that it's not the policies that matter, it's how you frame them in your fluffy, meaningless narrative. What one thinks of the president has nothing to do with policies, but more if you like the idea of "working together."
