Paul Ryan, David Brooks, and the Size of Government
After yesterday's David Brooks/Paul Ryan showdown over the size of government at the American Enterprise Institute, I participated in a follow-up panel with Ezra Klein and Jennifer Rubin of The Washington Post. You watch the whole thing, which runs a little less than 25 minutes, below:
I'll have more to say about Ryan and Brooks in a longer piece later today.

Superannuated Semite-slanderer Helen Thomas spoke at an "anti-Arab bias workshop" in Detroit yesterday, and the Detroit Free Press brings us her brilliant remarks:
"I can call a president of the United States anything in the book but I can't touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank," Thomas said. "No American would tolerate that ? white-only roads?"
"The Zionists have to understand that's their country, too. Palestinians were there long before any European Zionists?"
In a speech that drew a standing ovation, Thomas talked about "the whole question of money involved in politics."
"We are owned by propagandists against the Arabs. There's no question about that. Congress
, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion. They put their money where their mouth is?We're being pushed into a wrong direction in every way."
This woman sat in the front row of the White House briefing room for decades.
Speaking of roads, that reminds me of a joke:
Why did Helen Thomas cross the road?
It had just been invented!

Hey Helen, the west bank was Jordan, not Palestine. I want more details on those Jewish-only roads too, from a source more authoratative than you.
In Israel, Jewish road goes from right to left.
Come to think of it, so does Arabic rd.
In Israel, Jewish street light goes on at night.
In Israel, Jewish traffic circle has 6 points.
In Israel after road accident, Jewish lawyer sues you.
In Israel on Jewish road, boy get short cut.
On the one hand, I get the egalitarian argument, but on the other hand, we don't expect Indians on Indian reservations to move aside for white people who want to get in on the casino action.
Israel wasn't a natural state, it was explicitly created with the intent of being a place where Jews were not a minority given how shoddily they were treated in many of the places where they were minorities; handing over power to a group of people who were enthusiastically allied with the Nazis in WW2 seems like letting poachers into the endangered species preserve in the name of fairness.
People who whine about Israel strike me as about on par with people that whine about black history month or whatever.
Israel wasn't a natural state
As opposed to????
Does anyone believe that Thomas's anti-semitism was unknown before the infamous video of her was shot?
Me either.
F/marry/kill?
GO!
Why choose?
Just the mention of Ezra Kline is enough to make one throw up.
Jennifer Rubin? Star of 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and 1993's A Woman, Her Men, and Her Futon ?
David Brooks is the anti-libertarian, socially conservative and skeptical of economic conservatives.
The last column I read by him was about the horrors of sexting. If that's the worst problem right now, I think we should be happy.
He's also quite the connoisseur of trouser creases, and claims to know when a particularly sharp one qualifies a person for high political office.
Whatever you do, don't read his latest column. Get this; he apparently still seriously believes that Obama and his advisors are pragmatic moderates. I nearly fell out of my chair.
oh come on, Obama is a pragmatic moderate, problem is he's also an idiot who doesn't realize what his well-intentioned schemes will lead to.
You are so right. I genuinely believe that ObamaCare will lower costs, improve the quality of and access to care, and not squelch innovation. It has never even OCCURED to me it might be otherwise.
He seems to be of the Thomas Friedman mindset, that it's not the policies that matter, it's how you frame them in your fluffy, meaningless narrative. What one thinks of the president has nothing to do with policies, but more if you like the idea of "working together."
He also seems to want the approval of his leftie colleagues.
Economisty?
Is that a progressive golden shower?
