Judge, on Republicans: "They don't care about the economy..the country..or 'the people'
The following response to my L.A. Times op-ed from this morning grabbed my eye because of the name–Judge Kelvin D. Filer–and the domain name of his e-mail address (LASuperiorCourt.org). A quick Google search confirms that, yep, Filer's a sitting Superior Court judge, and a bit of a character to boot. Anyway, this is what and how an active judge in Southern California thinks about John McCain and Republicans writ large:
You know why McCain is taking his current stance against repealing "don't ask, don't tell"…it's the SAME reason that the Republicans consistently vote against ANYTHING that the President proposes…they don't want this President to succeed!!! It's as simple as that. They don't care about the economy..the country..or "the people"..all they care about is POWER and they want it back!!! Ergo..they blame President Obama for EVERYTHING and give him credit for NOTHING !!! This has never happened to a president before…….we know the real reason why….which is too bad !!!!!1
Kelvin D. Filer
There you have it.

I dunno, that trailing one is suspicious. If only the troll had written it out!!!1!!!ONE!!
I'd love to see if his views are represented in his rulings.
The guy's name really ends in "D. Filer?" Can't wait for Judge Hugh G. Rection's reaction.
Let me field this one.
Judge Filer should stick to pining over the Lakers and leave the judging to guys like me.
Oh god I want that guy on the Supreme Court. It would make opinions worth reading again.
Nice touch on the "1" behind the five (count 'em) exclamation points.
Yes, he is clearly a sarcastic Republican. Reason was duped!!!!1
He writes AT LEAST as well as the AVERAGE H&R commentator!!!
the burn, it stings
How does one D. File Kelvin?
I would D. File Kelvin by referring to his temperature scale as "DEGREES Kelvin," but then again I'm a total science dork.
Of course the Rs don't want the Ds to succeed. The Ds didn't want the Rs to succeed when they held the executive branch either.
When the Rs held the executive.
Ha, but the D is now black comic sans font. So it's racist.
Now the TSA holds the executive.
If he really thinks no other President has been blamed for just about everything under the sun by somebody, he must be really confused and surprised when lawyers bring up the whole 'precedent' thing to support their arguments.
Heck, I get confused when lawyers bring up precedent as support for anything, but then I always thought a judge's job was to consider and analyze the law, not rubber-stamp somebody else's thoughts. Crazy, I know, expecting judges to think...
Wait, so this guy says that the only reason McCain is against repealing DADT is because Obama is FOR repealing it (and crackas hate blacks)?
That's somewhat at odds with reality, no? I mean, didn't Obama just spend a whole lot of political capital to avoid repealing DADT?
Obama expended political capital to avoid it being struck down in the courts.
He's not a big fan of that 'checks and balances' nonsense. It slows things down.
Anything can be justified by a creative enough interpretation of the constitution. It only consists of seven words anyway: "general welfare... regulate commerce... necessary and proper".
It is not the place of the courts to question the law. Their job is to interpret and apply it. Imagine the chaos if the courts were to judge laws based on the plain language of the constitution. More than half the federal government would be ruled invalid overnight!
But if Congress repeals DADT, then it's just another day with laws being passed by the legislature, signed by presbo, and applied without question by the courts.
Come again?
It's pretty clear that, these days, Congress is where you send things if you want them to die. I'm sure you've never complained about an activist judiciary overstepping its bounds...
Can I send you to Congress?
I'll chip-in for postage.
Terrorist!
Are you a girl?
Don't be silly. There are no girls here.
Gotta love all the petty rambling that takes place in the comments section of a website called "reason.com"
"Ergo..they blame President Obama for EVERYTHING and give him credit for NOTHING !!! This has never happened to a president before.......we know the real reason why....which is too bad !!!!!"
Behold the soft bigotry of low expectation.
Are you sure this isn't the expectation bigotry of low softness?
It always comes back to your erectile dysfunction, doesn't it.
You are the cure.
I thought I was the disease?
No. You are The Cure. Fucked up hair. Lipstick.
Boys don't cry, Epi, even if they cant't work up enough plastic passion to jump someone else's train at 10:15 on a Saturday night.

We need to kill us some cracker babies!
This man can send you to jail for 20 years.
Just don't commit any crimes dummy
When a presidential candidate promises you everything, I have little sympathy for him when he is elected and cannot deliver.
I mean, didn't Obama just spend a whole lot of political capital to avoid repealing DADT?
We know the real reason why you know that.
This has never happened to a president before.......we know the real reason why....which is too bad !!!!!1
Oh come on, Judge, don't hold back--tell us exactly what this real reason is, you tease.
because Obama is half white.
I think the judge's "!" key is stuck.
Maybe he thinks that just because he is a sitting judge he gets more free reign in his punctuation than us regular folk.
At least it wasn't in all caps.
It's pretty obvious the judge never had a commodore 64.
It's pretty obvious the judge never had a commodore 64.
Aren't you too young to have had one? And to double post so egregiously?
No, I was raised on Zork and Jumpman, and the familiar cyan glow of that magic cursor.
The double post just means I have one less turn until a grue comes.
Jumpman - Best Game EVER.
M.U.L.E., dude. All the way.
I'll see your MULE and raise you a Space Taxi.
I was too busy playing Avalon Hill board games to get involved in C64 sims.
NERDS!!
Q: What do you call a lawyer with an IQ of 50?
A: "Your honor."
Remember, 50% of all lawyers graduated in the bottom half of their class.
50% of all anything that graduates is at the bottom half of their class.
All it was missing was the race card.
I figure that was covered by "we know the real reason why" section of this extensive and illuminating treatise.
Anyway, he wears a dress at work, so his points are invalid even before they are uttered.
I meant the overt race card. The whole thing has evil white people written all over it.
Is that what is meant by "don we now our gay apparel." ?
Oooh I've had a biotch of a morning on the bench!
WTF?? STUPIDITY!!1!

A one-man demonstration of why the Constitution includes the right to a whole jury of below-average-IQ citizens, not just one.
All it was missing was the race card.
Really?

Unlike the Democrats, who wish only to give you the shirt right off their back.
And a pony.

It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.
And two Obama Volts in every garage.
2nd prize is three Volts. Or Obamas.
Winner must take delivery by February 2014.
I keep forget that sitting judges aren't necessarily superior thinkers.
I also keep forget the ing at the end of some words.
I am hold you in contempt!!!!!
I be hold y'all in contempt.
I keep forget we're not in love anymore.
Someone get on the batphone and call Judge Judy. She'll put Judge Tool here in his place.
Looks like Obama has found his next Supreme Court nominee.
From the "character" link: Filer, 49, is not what you'd call a spectator or a bystander. He's out there.
Indeed. He's *way* out there.
Is this judge now put in a position where he needs to recuse himself whenever one of the parties to a case in front of him can be identified as a Republican? His collective bias against Republicans is obvious (even if we can all agree some deserve it.)
I can judge FAIRLY!!!1! Too bad CREECH has become all about you KNOW what I mean...!
After reading that I can't get,
"KAAAAAAHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!1"
out of my head.
Shatner was just pissed at how Ricardo Montalban was a much better actor.
Come on. Kirk's eulogy for Spock was one of the great comic moments in all of cinema.
I remember reading, years ago, what purported to be a quote from an interview with Nicholas Meyer in which he admitted the secret to getting a good performance out of The Shat in the few pivotal scenes of STII:TWOK ... He forced him to do so many takes, over and over and over again, that Shatner got "too tired to overact" and just played it natural.
I've never put in the effort to verify this one, but mostly because it's so beautiful and profound that it would break my heart if it turned out to be !true.
When we eventually lose Shatner, we'll lose the greatest actor of our generation, and this comes from someone who generally doesn't like Star Trek except for particular episodes (the Jean-Luc meltdown finale episode of the second series being great science fiction) and one, maybe two of the movies. Like epi points out, he makes death scenes comical, his own from one of the mid nineties movies, for one. You attribute this to bad acting, but think about it, if he didn't ham those scenes up they would come across as banal and destructive of plot momentum instead. Those scenes need the Shat doing the Shat at warp factor 9. He even makes his new poorly premised comedy watchable. Well, Victoria has a great rack for an old gal, too, but it takes more than a little bouncy bouncy to make a show like that tolerable, and that factor is Shat. Hell, I even watched a show premised around a bunch of liberal lawyers from Boston obsessed with stupid shit just to watch the Shat.

If you go to the original LA Times piece, it's not in the comment section. @Matt Welch, can you link to where this appeared originally? Or provide a link to a screenshot (if the LA Times deleted the comment)? If you google any part of his quote, the only thing that appears is Reason and another cite quoting Reason.
He e-mailed it to me.
Wow. That's.....so bad I didn't even consider it a possibility. Thanks for responding.
Does anyone remember why the gay marriage amendment was defeated in California? Latinos and, dare I say it, blacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reversing DADT may be supported by blacks in elected positions, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the average black person on the street is fine with keeping it on the down low.
No bet. Anyone care to guess what black soldiers thing about it?
There's a pretty well-kept secret...
I can't believe he couldn't fit the word "tea" in there somewhere.
Law school isn't hard.
Well, he's right, so I don't see the problem. Anyway, are judges supposed to be politically neutral?
Why are there so few black libertarians? libertarianism of the American right-wing variety is a very lillywhite political movement (so to speak). Only the neo-Nazis have fewer non-whites. I realize that there may be some overlap owing to Ron Paul's efforts.
ARFARFARFARFARFARFARFARFARFARFARF!!!!!!!!!!1
Why are there so many more racist white Democrats than there are racist white libertarians? According to a University of Washington survey intended to show how racist the tea party is, 43% of Tea Party opponents said blacks aren't trustworthy. Assuming most of these are Democrats and can be construed to the larger population, that is a far larger chunk of the population than those involved with or self-classifying as libertarian. Racism is just another form of negative collectivism.
And when is the Democratic Party going to stop leaving gays in the gutter? They didn't really have any good excuses over the past two years on why they couldn't repeal DADT, DOMA, etc.
You mean tea partiers are Republicans, right?
According to a University of Washington survey intended to show how racist the tea party is, 43% of Tea Party opponents said blacks aren't trustworthy. Assuming most of these are Democrats
Because if they don't follow along with the other 99% of blacks who vote democrat, no matter what, then they are "Sell outs" to the man.
Don't worry, scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick-ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now.
Obviously the D-Filer isn't in on the real scam, and no one can put it together...but Tin-Foil Me can!
Think about it...Obama's "black?" Ha! He's the most evil, insidious creation from The Man yet...the perfect Uncle Tom, the white wolf in a sheen of colored sheepskin hiding amongst the innocent black herd. Anyone ever notice HonkeyMamaObama's only half-black? Still fooling the coloreds with the one-drop-rule, more than a century later! Who thought it'd be so easy!? Who raised him? Honkey, Inc., that's who. Educated at Harvard? Columbia? Those places are far from the 'hood.
Sure, there was the whole going to Chicago to organize and such. The whole racially-confused-more-daddy-issues-than-a-stripper shtick was just a cover for HonkeyBama to get street-cred with the coloreds, to keep'em all fooled and what's-what.
What happens once he gets in power? White Man Plan #9 kicks in, that's what. First order of business is kicking slave-reparations to bankers. Done.
Second order of business? Silence the CBC with indictments, all under Donkey cover...no racism here! Yessiree, no racism here alright. Done.
Third Order of business? Collapse the Donk majority with imbecile incompetent politics. Done. As a side effect, guarantee every ethnic group that is not black will not want to see 'black' president again by the time HonkeyBama's through. Almost done.
So, I'm not the only person who enjoyed Undercover Brother.

I hope his legal opinions aren't written like this.
Who wouldn't like legal opinions written like this?
Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
Why are there so few black libertarians?
Libertarians aren't into pandering. Also, the message of personal responsibility is lost on a culture that believes government has the answer to every problem. To the vast majority of this indoctrinated group, personal responsibility = racism. You can thank the racist whitey progressive for the continued ruination of the black community... Thanks FDR, you crackety ass cracker!!!!!!!!!1
Let's see...
If you judge someone based upon their race then you are racist.
Treating someone as having a handicap because of their race seems to me as an example of judging them based upon their race.
Giving special considerations based on race seems to me like treating race as a handicap.
special considerations -> race is a handicap -> judging on race -> racist
Yet those who support special considerations based upon race are considered to be compassionate, while those who do not are denounced as racist.
I've never accused liberals of being logical.
IOW, blacks are collectively inferior, (specifically, easily indoctrinated and more susceptible to pandering) than libertarians, that's why.
IOW, blacks progressives are collectively inferior, (specifically, easily indoctrinated and more susceptible to pandering) than libertarians, that's why.
ftfy
From Glenn Beck's Nazi chalkboard to your fingers.
Thanks for the assist, brother
Heh.
You nailed it Tony! However, the pertinent question should be WHY is this group collectively inferior? Hint... Look in the mirror Tony, it has your socially destructive fingerprints all over it. I know you meant well, unintended consequences, so on and so forth. Victimology may get you votes but it only serves a destructive purpose as social policy.
Or maybe you're just a racist asshole?
Well Tony, by using your statist fantasyland definition of "racism", I take that as a compliment. But here in the sane world, a person who supports special privileges based on race is the racist. Ironically, that is you Tony!
You're making a lot of broad assumptions today, SS. I don't support racial favoritism of any sort.
The only one expressing any sort of racist sentiment here is you, who claimed that black people are collectively more able to be duped and pandered to than other groups.
So, Affirmative Action is too progressive for your brand of leftism, right Tony?
wylie,
I prefer to address the root cause of racial disparities rather than try to plaster over them with quotas. (That means dealing with economic injustice.)
So...you're actively campaigning to outlaw the Democrap party, government affirmation action policies, and the teacher's unions?
Are you inferring that blacks in America have not been successfully duped and pandered to? A voting block that lacks any semblance of diversity in their political identity. A voting block that excoriates it's own members for daring to seperate themselves from the DNC, at the behest of lilly white progressive crackers and poverty pimps. The black community sold it's soul to the DNC devil, and indivduals in that community are unable to criticize their predominantly white progressive masters without facing excommunication. And yet you fail to see the racism that exists to perpetuate the black communities political status quo?
SS,
When the Republicans offer a viable alternative to blacks, I'm sure they could siphon some off. But it's hardly a mystery why blacks would choose not to join the party that has become almost exclusively white and rural, not to say the direct descendant of historically white racist political factions.
I think we must exclude racist explanations--and let's do so for the sake of argument. That is, it can't be that the vast majority of black people are simply easily duped into being mindless followers of Democrats. Perhaps it's just that there is no other option for them, since the other side is FUCKING OBVIOUSLY, OVERTLY RACIST AGAINST BLACKS (but not just them!) AND HAS BEEN FOR DECADE UPON DECADE.
"not to say the direct descendant of historically white racist political factions."
Tony, don't read too much Progressive writing from the early 20th century. You will come to realize that Progressives are direct descendants of some racist mofos.
Descendents? So you're saying that Progressives have abandoned their core philosophies? That racism no longer pervades the political left?
"not to say the direct descendant of historically white racist political factions."
Tony, don't read too much Progressive writing from the early 20th century. You will come to realize that Progressives are direct descendants of some racist mofos.
A true progressive would oppose encouraging poor people to quit their jobs to live on barely subsistence-level free income from the government. The Left did this to African Americans for decades, and now you wonder why they are still trapped in a cycle of poverty?
If white racism is all that is holding blacks down, why do African immigrants average middle class incomes and are less likely to live in segregated areas than African-Americans?
Until the education system is corrected to allow poor students and their families more choices (which the Democrats for no good reason seem intent on preventing) and until a candid conversation can happen about the long-term consequences of welfarism without accusations of racism, blacks will remain in the ghetto and "progressives" will continue to be only nominally so.
Libertarians could easily pull in many more blacks, but they would have to find more creative ways to radically shift the vested political paradigm.
Why are there so few black libertarians?
Probably the same reason there are so few white libertarians.
If only this guy was around in 1967 for the closing sequence of "Dragnet."

Racists.
Apparently, His Honor wasn't alive during the Clinton years...and we all know why the Republicans didn't want him to succeed, right?
Of curse this completely dismisses the fact that all of Team Red demonized Bush and blamed him for everything too.
Not saying that WGWB didn't fuck up all manner of shit, but the same phenomena existed just as it does now.
Yeah, but that was DIFFERENT!

He was the first black President, you may recall.
I agree with the judge, as he isn't saying anything the GOP hasn't said itself. They want the President to fail, and make him a one-term President. However, despite the actions of the GOP, the Obama Administration has down a swell job of continuing the failed policies of the Bush Administration.
The GOP and the DFL are two sides of the same coins, statist corporatists who care very little about the individual and plenty about the interests of international bankers, top corporations, and lobbyist.
Yes, he is speaking the truth, and the GOP would seem to heartily agree with him.
One thing about the "two sides of the same coin" thing: In a world that cynical, the best we can hope for are small differences, right? Surely both sides are not equally bad.
Usually, the majority side's badness is demonstrated most clearly at any given time. Right now, that would be the Democrats. But don't fret, because as soon as the Democrats have been punished thoroughly, and lose the Senate and likely the White House in two years, the Republicans' badness will come into focus a lot more clearly.
Unless you are really young, stupid, or partisan, or all three, you already know this...
Below 30 and partisan. I don't think either party is perfect, but that's not the same as saying both are equally evil. That's most likely lazy thinking, as it's a highly improbable situation. In fact, I think the GOP is remarkably evil as political parties go.
That's because you're stupid, and you are a lazy thinker.
I think the GOP is remarkably evil as political parties go.
You are aware that Monty Burns is a fictional character, and is not actually a member of the GOP, right?
But Dick Cheney is.
Republicans just don't put a very good smiley face on their authoritarianism. Republicans make us swallow poison, Democrats give us a spoonful of sugar to make the poison taste better.
That's because you're a moral cripple, Tony, who equates coercive egalitarianism with "good".
It's a hell of a lot better than coercive class-based bifurcation.
Oh but it's not coercive, because you call it freedom. And what really matters is what we call things.
They are, and my name isn't Shirley.

The people are who voted the repubs into power. He's trashing the people from his teeny progressive perch.
Obama is what's stopping the economic recovery. It is Obama HIMSELF. Not only his efforts to kill capitalism, but the reluctance of money holders out there to put in to a system that has so much uncertainty due to .... Obama.
"You mean tea partiers are Republicans, right?"

OMG, this stuff looks amazing! Where the hell can you buy it?
Spambot, I think I love you.
Whoops, that comment was meant for the Four Loko whipped cream.
Just for you Jim, I made a special Reason email address.
"they blame President Obama for EVERYTHING and give him credit for NOTHING !!! This has never happened to a president before"
If that's so, what was all the leftist whining about Bush? This guy's memory is awfully short.
He shows the magnaminousness and cool-headed objectiveness you expect from a judge.
Hate to be sitting in the accused bench, though. I?m very pale-faced.
How stereotypical ... A 1 at the end of a line of question marks.
Affirmative action on display.
Wow! This is a bona fide dope, I thought he was before and this tirade proves it.
Hmmmm, I wonder what the policy of LA County is about using government computers to post partisan crap on newspaper web sites on government time?
How do you spell impeachment?
This is what passes for a judge these days?! God, we are doomed.
What a surprise: A California Supreme Court judge who is functionally illiterate and has the reasoning capability of a 5th grader.
Oh, the glories of affirmative action - on display!
He just told us what his IQ is. He fits right in with the judicial system.
This has never happened to a president before.........WHA???!?!?!?!?!?
Honest, I am not a racist. I love black people more than whites though, and its not my fault.
Ha FIler:
It only proves black people are blinded by their idolatrous love of Obama. It is further proof that the majority of black people are socialists. It is a shame that a sitting judge would castigate the 2 Nov election, which represents the WILL OF THE AMERICAN people. Filer, Obama has created the bed that he will lie in. You were betting on being a recipient in his bannana republic, but it looks like that is going down to progressive hell.
It's not like George Bush was treated so ill, nor compared to chimps, Hitler, mumbling morons, murderers, drunks, crackheads,....
If this isn't a textbook example of projection, I don't know what is.
Filner: Translation:
Hey! Quit picking on the BLACK guy. Like, dude, NO ONE has ever picked on a president before. So why start now?
Note to Filner: Quit your whining. You sound just like your hero, Barry.
That was fake trolling, right?
Sorry - this was in response to some guy that said this judge was a result of emancipation. Looks like the comment was censored.
