Reason.tv Replay: Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Charles Rangel at Last Week's One Nation Rally…
Was it just eight days ago when Reason.tv kicked back with silver-throated Rep. Charles Rangel, thinned-down Rev. Al Sharpton (he blames "the recession!"), and the-enemy-of-my-friend-is-a-racist talkshow host Ed Schlutz? And rapped with Jesse Jackson about his Chicago mentor T.R.M. Howard, the "Black Maverick" who made a fortune performing abortions and advocated armed resistance for African Americans? And talked with a guy who looked so much like Neil Young we were starstruck and forgot to ask him if it's true that "welfare mothers make better lovers"?
Yes, it was just last Saturday that those conversations – along with chats with the head of the AFL-CIO (loves the bailouts!) and the AFT (parents need good neighborhood schools teachers unions control!)—took place.

Reason.tv reports from the "One Nation Working Together" rally for "Jobs, Justice, and Education" on Saturday, October 2 in Washington, D.C. The event was organized by the NAACP, the AFL-CIO, the American Federation of Teachers, the Service Employees International Union, and other progressive outfits.
Reason's Nick Gillespie talked with Rep. Charles Rangel, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the AFT's Randi Weingarten, MSNBC's Ed Schultz, comedian-activist Dick Gregory, Electronic Frontier Foundation co-founder Mitch Kapor, and other luminaries (including somebody who looked a helluva lot like Neil Young).
Click to learn what they had to say about the economy, the Tea Party, President Obama's tenure, whether the stimulus worked, race relations, and whether the United States is better off than it was in the 1960s.
Approx. 5 minutes. Shot and edited by Jim Epstein, with help from Josh Swain.
Reason.tv attended the 'One Nation Working Together Rally' on the National Mall on October 2, 2010. The crowd, representing a broad cross section of political left, included groups like the United Auto Workers, United Steel Workers, Service Employees International Union, the NAACP, anti-war activists, the American Federation of Teachers, the International Socialist Organization, and many liberal and progressive groups.
Priority issues for attendees were jobs, the cost of higher education and the economy. Though the crowd was evenly divided about President Obama's first two years in office, it seemed as though everyone agreed that it's time to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Interviews by June Arunga and Kmele Foster. Shot and edited by Dan Hayes.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Charles Rangel at Last Week’s One Nation Rally…
Man, those Tea Party folks are fucking insane racists. If only they had a line-up of sober, deep thinkers like this to spread their message.
Al Sharpton –
Jesse Jackson –
Of course they’ve matured and been enlightened since these words were uttered an repeated out of context.
I want to see Rev. Al’s research on that.
Racist!
Afrocentrist “scholars” like George James claim that the Aristotle and the Greeks stole philosophy from “black” Egypt and Africa.
Wait a second (okay five or six depending on your reading skills): Aren’t all these people against the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United?
Which means that – if McCain-Feingold were still in effect as these folks wanted – all of these labor unions wouldn’t be allowed to march/protest 60 days before an election?
Today’s dispatch from the fainting couch:
The United States is not just losing its capacity to do great things. It’s losing its soul. It’s speeding down an increasingly rubble-strewn path to a region where being second rate is good enough.
And furthermore,
The railroad tunnel project, all set and ready to go, would have provided jobs for 6,000 construction workers, not to mention all the residual employment that accompanies such projects. What we’ll get instead, if it is not built, is the increased pollution and worsening traffic jams that result when tens of thousands of commuters who would have preferred to take the train are redirected to their automobiles.
tens of thousands of commuters who would have preferred to take the train are redirected to their automobiles.
Tens of thousands, I say! Clamoring for a train to ride on.
Oh, the humanity!
We’ll commission a Blue-Ribbon Panel to commission a feasibility study concerning the advisability of an environmental impact study…we have to shove through a multi-billion-dollar bond offering…check the union label…we’re getting sued by the local residents…we’re getting sued by the Friends of the Earth…the EPA has denied all of the permits…the cities have denied all of the building permits….talk of a large tax increase to cover the project and future pension benefits of the new employees…the mob wants their cut…the aldermen want their cut…the Senator wants it named after him…is this passing through a low-income neighborhood?…or wetlands…maybe an historical district? Ah, shit, just blame it on the fucking Governor-R.
“The Chinese could build it. The Turks could build it. We can’t build it.”
…The Soviets could have built it. I dare say the ancient Egyptians could have built it with their slave labor.
Quoth one of the helmets at that rally :”If we allow this (education) privitization plan to go through, we will have a segregated, stratified, two-tiered system, and that’s not what the majority of the people want.”
1) What privitization plan is she talking about?
2) You mean like we have now? Where Obama sends his kids to exclusive schools but takes that opportunity away from everyone else?
The Obama-kids are being groomed for the hallowed ivy halls in order to prepare themselves for a life of selfless public service. They will be trained to provide PHD-level intellectual ammunition to use against voucher proponents.
I feel sorry for the li’l Obamas. It’s a shame they’ll grow up being brainwashed by their parents and the fine staff at Sidwell Friends.
“If we allow this (education) privitization plan to go through, we will have a segregated, stratified, two-tiered system, and that’s not what the majority of the people want.”
I live in Detroit. For obvious reasons, I wouldn’t if I had school aged children.
‘Nuff said.
I completely agree..we need to change eduction, make it equal, because there are too many kids that dont get an education, and they end up on the streets…its so sad, it breaks my heart to see it, especially in my home state of NY.
Julian Bond is now known for WHAT?
