    Good morning reason.

Payne, you get an almost giggle.

  2. anarch   15 years ago

Don't be caught with this cartoon near an airport.

    1. Old Mexican   15 years ago

Yeah - what's with political cartoonists and falling airplanes???

    2. El Duderino   15 years ago

I'm not worried, I am sure that every member of congress was put on the terror watch list after this cartoon dropped.

      1. Mensan   15 years ago

Nope. Just everyone who posts anything in the comments...D'oh!

  3. Fatty Bolger   15 years ago

Not bad. But why did he use Karl Malden to represent Congress? And why is the plane full of Kilroys?

    1. Fatty Bolger   15 years ago

Oops, that should have been Walter Matthau.

      1. Jesse Walker   15 years ago

You know how any movie is better if it has Walter Matthau in it? The same principle applies to editorial cartoons.

  4. Pilot Dude   15 years ago

The inaccuracy of the plane kills it for me: a door accessing the cockpit flight deck, an open door while in flight (is the plane depressurized?), and a parachute. Sorry Congress, but no parachutes on a commercial plane. We all go down together!

    1. Tulpa   15 years ago

That's OK, he opened the parachute waaaay too early.

      1. Joshua   15 years ago

yeah, I think there's significant risk for Congress to get sucked into the engine intake

        1. Alan   15 years ago

          let's hope so!

          1. Homeland Security   15 years ago

Alan, that little death threat just earned you Double Secret Probation. Try getting on an airline flight now, bitch.

  5. Corduroy   15 years ago

Didn't Ramirez have a similar cartoon earlier this week?

    1. yup   15 years ago

I thought I saw this cartoon before.

      1. SouthPark   15 years ago

        Simpsons did it!

        1. Old timer   15 years ago

          Bugs Bunny did it!

  6. Fist of Etiquette   15 years ago

Next pane, the passengers take the controls and pull the aircraft out of its dive. Am I right, fellow potential voters?

    Also, too soon.

    1. sarcasmic   15 years ago

Except that Congress secured the bullet proof cockpit door before bailing out.

    2. Spoonman.   15 years ago

Actually, I think the story goes that they elect the co-pilot captain, but he's also already parachuted out.

      1. generic Brand   15 years ago

        But Jesus is their co-pilot.

        1. dunkel   15 years ago

Jesus was my co-pilot, but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him.

          1. Fiscal Meth   15 years ago

            +3 in 1

  7. Drax the Destroyer   15 years ago

If only the plane was aimed at congress...oh shit here come the sirens.

  8. Shitty Friend   15 years ago

    A solid a FUCKING plus.

  9. Shitty Friend   15 years ago

The second "A" should have been capitalized. Mis-capitalization gives the previous comment a C-.

    1. inflationary anarch   15 years ago

All crimes are now capital crimes.

Sites like Reason.com cause workers to waste time while on the job. This effects interstate commerce. I'm having the AG look into closing all such sites down. Of course, reading sites like Daily Kos and DU will make workers happy, and happy workers will work harder. Thus they will remain open. Have a great day, serfs.

    1. RC Deans Lawyer anarch   15 years ago

      This effects interstate commerce.

      Especially without ad blockers.

      1. Jet   15 years ago

And especially with ad blockers. My decision not to see ads means that ad money is wasted on me. We don't want any wasted money now, do we?

        1. Butts Wagner   15 years ago

If it's spent money, it's stimulus.

    2. Jen   15 years ago

It's comforting to know we have a ruler who knows the difference between "affects" and "effects."

      1. Maobama   15 years ago

Who are you to question me? I went to Columbia and Harvard. I was editor of the Harvard Law Review. I bet you went to a **shudder** state school. I don't need to be taking grammar lessons from you. Learn your place, prole.

        1. Patriot Mike   15 years ago

          They're just racists, Dear Leader.

        2. El Duderino   15 years ago

Respond: Forgive us oh great leader of men.

We have failed to believe that spending stolen money a century in advance of collecting it would save us from economic failure.

All: Forgive us oh great leader of men.

    3. Grammar Nazi   15 years ago

      FTFY.
      Heinrich Himmler

    4. El Duderino   15 years ago

Socialist mops don't clean the floor, they just spread the shit around.

  11. cynical   15 years ago

That wasn't too terrible. Although if it was ripped off, it explains a lot. Of course, in this case, it could just be the obvious joke.

  12. ?   15 years ago

The "budget" is going down? I thought it was going up, "up" being bigger, as in "skyrocketing", like mortgage foreclosures and healthcare premiums and other things metaphorically rocket-like, according to the metaphor writers.

    1. Jet   15 years ago

I'd have been much happier to see "Congress" trying to parashute out of a rocket. Good call.

    2. El Duderino   15 years ago

I think the metaphor that the artist is trying to convey here is that of shit hitting a fan at fucking light speed.

  13. Warren   15 years ago

What is this? Fifty years ago in Reason day? That plane has been a smoking hole in the ground for longer than I can remember.

  14. KWebb   15 years ago

Couldn't Congress have gotten sucked into the engine or at least cut in half by the wing?

  15. sage   15 years ago

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  16. Tulpa   15 years ago

Don't you think it's a bit too soon after 9/11 for a cartoon like this?

  17. gabe   15 years ago

David Koch gave 50 k to Cuomo. Sounds like a illuminati gatekeeper of the libertarians to me.

  18. JoshINHB   15 years ago

What's with the plane full of penguins?

    1. jocular ornithologist anarch   15 years ago

      Yeah, well.

      1. DancingWithDogs   15 years ago

lol Oh God. How horrible. Now I'm gonna have nightmares.

        1. Monty Python Geek   15 years ago

There's a penguin on the telly.

  19. P Brooks   15 years ago

    Wrong.

Should be a train, with a steely-eyed Obama leaning out the window as he pushes the throttle as far as it will go. Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid cry, "Faster, faster! Wheeee!!" as the stoker shovels money into the boiler.

Nearly obscured by smoke, we see a Bridge Out Ahead sign.

  20. EasyPeasy   15 years ago

I guess I picked the wrong day to give up sniffing glue.

    1. El Duderino   15 years ago

      lol

  21. Heinrick   15 years ago

Are you suggesting that congress will just start leaving us all alone. Thats very optimistic.

  22. Grammar Nazi   15 years ago

The door should open inwards. And its square corners are prone to stress cracking.

    Failure.

I hope the fucking parachute rips.

Am I right, fellow potential voters?

  27. friday Tiffany Jewelry   15 years ago

High minded liberals of all types protect their own social niches because those social niches are built upon certain progressive ideas like global warming, or socialism, or health care, whatever, name the cause and there is a group defending its cause. They may not agree with this assessment, but how else could anyone explain a groups insistence on promoting a program or idea that has already been proven to be a failure. I know I use this term a lot, but it is their inability to resolve cognitive dissonance without resorting to justifications.

  28. money dan   15 years ago

We live on principal until utility seduces us into using some other principal as a bludgeon to get what we think we want.

  29. YaoShin   15 years ago

Nobody seems to be taking this cartoon seriously enough. do you people realize how significant this issue is? the citizens are going to be in alot of trouble, even more so than we already are; the budget is going to skyrocket. Why you ask? because of deficient spending and not handling the budget correctly. the U.S. needs to freeze all spending immediately!
