How We Doing So Far in Our Predictions For Mad Men, Season 4?
A coupla/three weeks back, just before the fourth season of Mad Men debuted, we ran through some likely scenarios for the show this go-round. The season began in 1964 and has already moved into 1965.
As the fourth episode airs tonight on AMC, what have we gotten right so far and what have we gotten wrong?

Who the fuck cares?
Fucking cosmotarians and their chick shows.
Don't worry. I'm sure the Reason staff is working on a season preview for Ow! My Balls! just for you.
Ow! My Balls! isn't a show yet. It's just a segment on Tosh.0 and Web Soup.
But we're gettin' there!
Full service lattes for everyone!
I'm glad I'm not the only person who's sick of Hollywood's insisting on giving us their take on the 1960s.
Seriously. When are the fucking Baby Boomers ever going to stop gazing at their navels?
And I am sick of people who think that the topic of a show/film has anything to do with whether it is good or worth watching.
Ain't Nothin' To Do
"I'm so sick of T.V.
You know, I'm getting bored of the tube
I'm so sick of romance
And I'm gettin' real sick of you"
Bah. Who cares about Mad Men when AMC has this coming in October.
Nice Sunday discussion topic!
Sadly I am trying to beat a deadline for a manuscript revision; otherwise I would join in.
Is the bogus AMC link some sort of post-ironic joke? A metaphor, perhaps?
BTW, you've got to feel sorry for Dustin Johnson.
Seems it was made very clear in the local rules, so not so sorry ...
From what i saw they pretty much skipped everything that happened in 64.
Don did give some Beatles singles to his daughter...or at least has his secretary do it.
I am surprised they skipped on the A-bomb ad.
Does go along with their "confounded expectations" tactic though.
They should introduce an alien that only Don can see.
I'm a little disappointed that the series has become little more than a costume drama. The random historical reference hardly conceals the fact that what we're witnessing here is a high-class soap opera.
What's wrong with that? The best show on the tv ever-ever was BSG, and that was just a soap opera too.
Incorrect. F Troop is the bestest show ever.
Although somewhat derivative of F-Troop, Go Go Gophers remains the best thing ever on TeeVee
was Ultraman.
Go Go Gophers-Indian Treasure
STARBUCK IS AN ANGEL OMG WAHT BRILLIANT WRITTING OMG
I think he was talking about the 1979-1980 version.
The episode where starbuck and a cylone are marooned on a planet and must work together to save a child is brilliant.
Then that early episode where an entertainment planet with gambling is used trick people into becoming food for an advanced hive like bug race is a metaphor on capitalism is pure genius and demonstrates the superiority of Mormon morality.
we're witnessing here is a high-class soap opera.
You can call any TV drama series the same thing.
Star trek
Sopranos
Lost
Samson and Son
all Soap Operas
"Dad, can you help me build my soapbox racer?"
"Sorry, son... but since I got that haircut ... you know, I just don't feel like doing much of anything..."
To me the difference is how much it matters if I miss an episode. Give me any F-Troop episode and I can probably figure out what's going on.
Based on this:
Star trek- (TOS) nope
Sopranos- soap
Lost- soap
Having never heard of Samson and Son I'll offer
Sanford and Son- nope
... Hobbit
> what we're witnessing here
> is a high-class soap opera.
Nick's inability to generate discussion here is proof that what you say is true.
I think that part of the definition of soap opera requires that they be poorly conceived, badly acted and produced for daily distribution.
I never watch currently popular shows. I once watched 24 somewhat into the beginning of its mania & boy I'll never do anything like that again.
I don't know, it just felt like I was mopping up the bleachers after a Beatles concert.
Shit and mung everywhere.
hhahahahah
Something tells me I'm being mocked.
god, we need to start converting more liberals into libertarians instead of just ex-republicans who don't want to pay taxes because of i'm sick of the lack of taste amongst people i agree with politically. i'm tired of the only people who like good tv and arty movies (i'm pretentious) being commie college kids. bunch of rubes.
long live cosmotarians.
Taste is strictly a matter of taste.
