Pay 'Til It Hurts, Then Really Start Paying. And Hurting.
Columnist Ron Hart, writing at The Daily Caller:
While the Democrats are awful, Republicans under George Bush were also a fiscal disappointment. Federal outlays (spending) grew from $1.86 trillion in 2001 to $3.5 trillion in 2009. As bad as the GOP President and Democrat Congress were in the late 2000s, Obama is making Bush look like a piker. His deficit spending alone will equal the entire 2001 budget outlays of about $1.8 trillion. Yes, our budget deficit is now equal to the entire spending of our government ten years ago.
And over the next 10 years, it is predicted that our deficit will be $10 trillion more — not the "change" we voted for. It took Bush eight years and two unnecessary wars to amass $3.3 trillion in debt; Obama will rack up $4.7 trillion in what I hope will be only four years. He is also trying to use the Gulf oil spill (never let a disaster go to waste) to pass his Cap-and-Tax climate bill, which will cost us jobs and untold trillions more.
We are so in debt to China that President Obama had to visit their president in his first year in office. It was an important meeting between the most powerful communist leader in the world and the president of China.

"While the Democrats are awful, Republicans under George Bush were also a fiscal disappointment. Federal outlays (spending) grew from $1.86 trillion in 2001 to $3.5 trillion in 2009."
Very true. And if they get back into power in November they better not just cut the rate of growth and claim it is a "cut in spending". It pisses me off when they do that. We need REAL and DEEP cuts.
Agreed. This whole reliance on the 10th Edition Newspeak dictionary to describe what they aren't doing is really fucking annoying.
Actually, I've long thought that a good compromise would be a simple spending freeze until revenues caught up. The last time I checked that would eliminate the deficit in 5-6 years.
I usually give any incoming administration a 1 year pass on the budget, since it takes at least that long to set out new policies.
TBS, the forecasts for the next 10 years are truly frightening, especially if you think that they are likely lowball.
They are and they aren't. They are scary if we continue on the path we are on. They are not as scary when you consider what an orgy of spending is going on right now. Zero raised baseline domestic spending by 50%. If we ever went back to 2007 level spending those numbers would look a lot better. And if we did a few simple things like raising the SS retirement age and cutting benefits a bit, they look a whole lot better.
I agree that it wouldn't take that much to be OK.
On the other hand, except for the Soviet collapse and the tech boom, the gubermint has never come close to balancing revienues with expenditures. The enactment of more Medicare benefits with magic thinking as to cost under Bush II just reveals the addiction of borrowing.
If this isn't a standard recession (and recession recoveries have been getting more anemic every time) the lack of revenues will get us into a profound problem with debt service. Those low interest rates are playing havoc with public pensions, as well as non-public retirees.
Borrowing is not income, and debt is not wealth.
Ron Hart link generates harelip ads.
Interesting.
But not surprising.
They advertise for harelips now?
"Hey, I'll take two!"
I hope we do not become like Japan, a country that thinks it never met a problem it could not solve with a robot,
Loser talk.
We need a robot with rocket fists the size of each coast, and a rocket ass as big as Illinois, straddling the country, actin' all "What did you say? You say something to my girl?"
His girl is the Constitution, yo!
USA USA
With Japan's declining population rate, in 100 years perhaps they will be populated exclusively by robots.
Perhaps those robots will apologize for the resulting robot war the same way this gal is apologizing Japan's invasion of China in 1937.
I'm half Korean, can she apologize to me also.
I say we need robots like this:
http://www.netflix.com/Movie/M.....kid=496751
The movie was lousy, but the female robot was intriguing. I know I would spend a lot of time cleaning my robot maid.
I'm getting the feeling you would spend a lot of time soiling your robot maid.
My favorite part of the article is that Hart's column picture looks like it was taken in 1980 with a disc camera.
Although, this line is gold: "It was an important meeting between the most powerful communist leader in the world and the president of China."
Zing!
Wait a minute...Ooooh...I get it
We are so in debt to China that President Obama had to visit their president in his first year in office. It was an important meeting between the most powerful communist leader in the world and the president of China.
Who is the president of china? Yeah i know i have Google as well. I only want to point out everyone knows who Camoron is and who Sarcozy and even who Chavez is. Why isn't the Chinese president on TV much?
Because his fearful minions in the msm know that their master does not want to be know to his terrified subjects. It adds to the mystery and fear of the "great leader".
Are you setting us up for the Abbott and Costello routine? OK, I'll bite: Hu is the president of China.
Barack Yeltsin.
Boris Obama.
A new kind of incompetence.
Just to see make everyone smile:
Obama administration spends $1.2 billion on cycling and walking initiatives

two unnecessary wars? say what you will about iraq, but we were attacked by afghanistan (yes, it was al-qaeda, not the taliban, but they operated with impunity, and the taliban even refused our overly generous offer to spare them if they extradited aq). our government had not just a right, but a duty to go to war.
our government had not just a right, but a duty to go to war.
Perhaps the unnecessary part is the fact that we are there 9 years later with no sign that we will ever leave.
Anyone watching the BP/Congress show trial? You gotta love the torture metaphors coming from the pundits: Hayward on the Hot Seat; Hayward Grilled; BP on the Firing Line; Hayward Ball-Gagged and Raped with a Pelican Bill...
Now I'll bet Olbermann and the MSNCB crew will invite tea-partiers and deficit hawks onto his show and be civil to them, because now he understands what it's like to have valid criticisms of the prez and people to be nasty towards you because of it.
When the sun rises in the west, maybe.
Hart is in our paper, the OC Register and I love his stuff. He is a great humor writer and libertarian!
He was on CNN Saturday, he is on a roll. I am glad Nick has him in our camp. That Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert humor is where the young folks get their news and views.
Hart is a force now, he is in 43 papers an article said.
I like the tone and tenor of this piece. Just enough insight and wit.
Love the Obama night club bit.
"It was an important meeting between the most powerful communist leader in the world and the president of China."
This has the ring of something out of Craig Ferguson's nightly monologue, except that he probably wouldn't call Obama a communist. Still, I'd love to be in the studio audience on the evening he made a comment even roughly resembling the above. That would be a Great Day for America, Everybody (SM).
We need more humor writers like Hart, they do resonate with the young.
This is a LOL funny column, well done.
Die, you fucking Hartbot losers.
