Act Now to Buy Your Piece of BP Oil Spill Coverage!
Another news outlet, looking to fund specific stories via direct appeals to readers. Via Craig Newmark, of Craigslist fame:
Hey, I'd encourage you to check out The Faster Times, a new online newspaper, which is trying to find ways to reinvent the newspaper model.
They're trying to raise funds, $1500, for a special report on what's happening to animals in the Gulf oil spill situation.
All they ask is for you to email in your pledge amount to info@thefastertimes.com. If they don't raise the full $1500 in pledges by Tuesday, you won't be asked to follow up on your pledge.
Fund a worthy story and do your part to kill off old media, all with a single check!
I wrote about the intersection between citizen journalism and microfinance last week.

I should have put this in the morning links, but what the fuck; have a dinnertime mindfuck.

I don't really want to pay money to see depressing pictures of birdies drowning in oil. Instead, OMG KITTIES
If your aiming to horrify with this like, you've accomplished your goal.
"like" should be "link."
When I want cute, I go to the Trollcats FTW.
Hey, I'd encourage you to check out The Faster Times...
Oh hell yeah. Any chance to get another look at Phoebe Cates's funbags...
Sounds like an attempt to fund news gathering with assurance contracts. I think there were a couple posts about the mechanism on Marginal Revolution a few years back. I like the idea of funding big projects with a small first round assurance contract to create the pool necessary to back up a second round with 100+% returns for failure.
Fine funding mechanism, but kind of an obvious and boring topic for investigative journalism....
Not that the real investigations will be carried out. Its Haliburton and Obama's administration that needs looking at more than BP. BP defintiely are responsible for the accident, but Obama has to explain how it became a catastrophe which is wrecking US foreign policy.
BP have already said unreservedly they will foot their part of the bill and have the countries of the European Union have offered to use their equipment and expertise to help clean it up (which Obama for some reason based on fake nationalistic outrage has refused to allow).
OH wow, no way dude that is just too cool!

I have researched many of thousands of websites and this one thumbs down. The foul language and ignorant comments certainly are #1
