Fool's Gold
The Nashville Metro City Council agreed to pay $95,000 to Anthony McCoy, who had four of his teeth broken by Lt. Tanya Mayhew. McCoy was being booked into the Metro jail for failure to pay child support when Mayhew asked him to remove his grill. He told her he couldn't because it was bonded to his teeth. So Mayhew put on a pair of rubber gloves and ripped the grill out, pulling the enamel away from the teeth. Although McCoy was bleeding, deputies refused to allow him to see a dentist for 10 days. Mayhew was suspended without pay for five days and demoted.
