Yeah, I was thinking the Nazis would be like, “We did it! We secretly built awesome trans-Atlantic tunnels! Unfortunately we diverted such a ridiculous amount of resources to this effort that by time we were done, we’d lost the war.”

What level of regulation would the Baxter Building or Avengers Mansion be subjected to? Just think of the inspections needed to maintain a Danger Room or a portal into the Negative Zone.

Doggone right! And when was the last time anyone came in and made sure the Bat-Cave was up to code. I think you’re right that the Danger Room would never pass muster (so they probably turn it on at max while the inspectors are inside).

IN DC heroes have secret HQs, orbital satellites, and private pocket dimensions. In Marvel they inhabit a building in Midtown, one that is attacked often.

Every single piece of evidence that I have ever encountered confirms my hypothesis that Comics is F–ing Stupid. Except for Watchmen, which doesn’t count.

Watchmen seemed pretty stupid to me, politically. But then I never bought into the trendy left notions that Thatcher and Reagan were bringing on fascism, a new Dark Age, ecological collapse, and nuclear war.

I always thought Watchmen was very anti-left, actually. The whole point was that the altruist utilitarian hero becomes the villain, because he believes killing some for the good of the many is justified. Rorschach is the quintessential moral categoralist (his character is a huge rip-off of Steve Ditko’s Mr. A, an Objectivist comic book hero). While utilitarianism wins out, Rorschach maintains moral superiority at the very end.

I agree, heller. Watchmen is far too nuanced to espouse a simple partisan political worldview. Its themes transcend politics all the way to philosophy and the most fundamental ethical problems.

That’s a pretty stupid statement, since Watchmen would be pointless and idiotic without all the comics that preceded it.
