But the Nanny of the Month goes to the Empire State politician who wants to ban salt from New York restaurants and dole out $1,000 fines to any rogue chefs who dare to sneak a sprinkle of the white stuff on their meals.

Cheers! Pawlenty signs basement drink brewing law

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Home drink brewers in Minnesota can now sell their concoctions to the public.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed a bill Thursday that makes it legal for commercial beverages to be brewed in the basement of a building.

Early laws made it OK to make home brews for personal use, but prohibited people from selling the drinks. Many had concerns about moisture and mildew often found in basements.

Under the new law, the state's Department of Agriculture will review spaces and issue permits to those that pass muster.

This applies to brewing everything from drink syrups and carbonated drinks to bottled beer.

i have a friend on the police force that dealt with the snowmaiden. as he tells it, basically, neighbors complained and the police came by to ask the homeowners to just cover it up so as to keep the peace. at least they didn't have to tear it down, right? besides for all we know, it was some old codger who hates anything fun that made the initial call.
