Saved! The Precious and Impressionable Dears of the University of Ottawa
If you are Drudge reader, you have doubtless now heard that conservative firebrand Ann Coulter was greeted with a heckler's veto yesterday at a speech in Canada. For reasons of "safety," the cowardly cops and spineless administrators at the University of Ottawa cancelled the lecture, sending a martyred Coulter to perform for CBC cameras instead of a hall full of impressionable students. I don't suspect I agree with Coulter on much of anything (especially her hagiographic treatment of ol' Tailgunner Joe), but that's rather beside the point. It is, instead, about the role of the university in making sure people like Coulter, once invited, are permitted to present ideas without being mau-maued.
For instance, check out this stunning letter U of O Vice President and Provost Francois Houle sent to Coulter prior to her arrival in Canada:
"Our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or 'free speech') in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here…Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges."
It is alarming, but unsurprising, that a university provost cloaks his contempt for Coulter's opinions in a legalistic argument about the "limits" of free inquiry. Even more depressing is that he would do so preemptively. Perhaps I'm exposing myself as a starry-eyed idealist, but is not incumbent upon university officials like Houle to encourage a free and open exchange of ideas, no matter how loathsome some thin-skinned students might find them? And if the poor dears of the University of Ottawa suspect that they might be "offended" by Coulter, might I recommend that they retire to their dorm with an Antonio Gramsci book?
Those rushing in to the breach, commenting on the injustice of it all (and it most certainly is), might want to look at the recent case of Israel Sahiri. In 2008, Sahiri, a leader of the Ugandan Jewish community (!), was prevented from speaking at the University of Ottawa campus because of his supposed "relationship to apartheid Israel." Sahiri isn't Israeli nor was his speech about Israel. As National Post writer Barbara Kay explained, "Not only was the speech apolitical, in fact it was a multiculturalist's dream theme: about schools that feed and educate 500 Jewish, Muslim and Christian children studying together, and open to all students at the university." But just in case, he was barred from speaking on campus, lest he spread a love for apartheid.
All of this is easy to pull off when students, like the weak-kneed, Feinian-named student body president Seamus Wolfe, declare that certain ideologies are "not welcome on campus." Sameena Topan, a conflict studies and human rights major who spoke to the Ottawa Citizen "on behalf of a group of protesters," gloated that "we accomplished what we were here to do, to ensure that we don't have her discriminatory rhetoric on our campus." It is good to see that the University of Ottawa, which provides a salary to mad 9/11 truthers like Michel Chossudovsky, is teaching its students that to resolve conflicts and agitate for human rights, one only needs to prevent speech they deem "discriminatory."

"Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges."
So, I take it Francois Houle may be facing criminal charges?
Is it possible to promote hatred against an unidentifiable group?
Been taking it on the chin for quite a while.
Nice.
Very nice.
Ouch.
Coulter says she's going to file a complaint with their province's kangaroo court. Wonderful way of the turning the table on the assholes.
This is excellent, using their own tools against them!
Couldn't have said it better myself, and not for lack of trying. Otherwise intelligent people here have been celebrating this. It's maddening, and I'm about as far from being a fan of Ann Coulter as it gets.
Yeah, all my Canuck buddies on are all over this on Facebook. I've refrained from comment - not a Coulter fan, but even less a fan of having "controversial" speakers' events cancelled. Let 'em talk.
While we have different views, apparently, I love all my PPBSO friends, so...we just let it go. This one's not worth arguing about.
Coulter is a member of the RRRRR.
I hate ignorance more than I do censorship.
I live at a flea market.
Something something fuck Rush Limbaugh.
A+
That was pretty good, shrike bot
Go, shriek, go!
We hear our group is getting a lot of good PR here today.
Come to Stormfront.com to hear more.

Quite frankly, I can't find anything objectionable there. But maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
I actually know a guy who lives at a flea market.
Maybe somebody should send this guy a dildo with a picture of Rush Limbaugh on it, so he can fuck himself up the ass with it.
This is probably the funniest shit I've heard all day.
ben,a typical left wing nut job.you don't want to hear ann coulter but don't mind spewing your filthy mouth all over the place.loser.
Awwww, you'd fuck me.
Moron.
There is broad consensus in Canada that the "Hate Speech" laws are close to collapse, both because of general perception that they have been abused by "victim" groups and the fact that most people support freedom of speech,(even for douchebags.)
Ironically, the Canadian Jewish Congress was one of the heavy supporters the law when they were passed. Now the laws are being used to discriminate against pro-Isreal speakers. A perfect example of how one should be careful of what one wishes for.
If Israel Sahiri had been named "Hamas Sahiri," do you think he'd have gotten the same treatment? I suspect not.
Don't be so sure. After all, George Galloway wasn't even allowed in the country.
Quote the Iron Law:
Me today. You tomorrow.
Thank you, Groovus.
Yeah, I think it's wrong to judge the people of Canada by the behavior of some university administrators.
Who here thinks the administration of, say, UC Berkley is an excellent example of what the American people think?
By the way, she's headed to Calgary next. ...which, for those of you who don't know, is probably a little to the right of Texas.
"Well it's 40 below,
and I don't give a #*&%,
got a heater in my truck,
and I'm off to the rodeo..."
Wasn't that done by a guy from Calgary?
http://vodpod.com/watch/270189.....uckin-jerk
Anyway, yeah, Canadians run the political spectrum. Sometimes real people don't live up to your stereotypes...we could learn a lot from Canada.
Yeah, but unlike Canada, we don't enshrine the ideas of liberty hating leftist university administrators into law.
Take for example health care, we would never follow the radical notions of the UC Berkley / San Francisco crowd ? oh wait
Never mind
that's classic!!
If a UC Berkeley official threatened a potential speaker with criminal prosecution for the content of their speech, he or she would be in deep shit.
Like OMG said, the legal framework in which the speech-hating liberals live makes a big difference.
You know? Come to think of it? In some ways?
It's like the instigator rule in hockey. Canadians hate the instigator rule!
Coulter's like the Sean Avery of politics! If she'd been playin' against the Sens, Matt Carkner could have taken care of the whole thing!
If you just left her in there...!
Coulter's like the Sean Avery of politics!
Apt comment.
I don't see Coulter starting a fight and then skating away like a coward...I'd go with Coulter being the Jordin Tootoo of politics...piss you off and drop 'em.
Or maybe Steve Downie (He's a little crazy).
Alberta is a little to the right of Texas? Considering that they have socialized health care, no 2nd amendment rights, no death penalty and elect politicians that are only marginally to the right of the socialist New Democratic Party of Canada, I would have to call bullshit on that statement.
Does the term "Wildrose" mean anything to you?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W.....of_Alberta
I wasn't trying to be specific; I was half joking. ...but the comparison isn't that far off. ...actually, conservatives having to live under a liberal federal system like that tends to radicalize people a little more, I think.
At any rate, did you think I was putting down Texas?
Why do you care?
ya but god lives in alberta or should I say 'god dieux'...

Read and learn: Spurned in Ottawa, Ann Coulter gets a big welcome from Calgary
University of Calgary Provost Alan Harrison - "If we try to suppress people's views simply because we don't agree with them we're doing two things. We're acting contrary to what the university stands for, and also frankly, we're providing increased publicity for the person who's spreading those views. That's not our purpose. Our purpose is to give her the same respect that everybody else deserves." Source: Globe and Mail
K Schultz, that is too funny - my band used to play The Rodeo Song when we were in college...
Here comes Johnny

He's a one ball man and he's
off to the rodeo....
That was, like, 30 years ago...good times.
"Who here thinks the administration of, say, UC Berkley is an excellent example of what the American people think?"
Perhaps not indicative of what the American PEOPLE think, but the admin at UC Berkeley is pretty much representative of what the admins at ALMOST ALL American universities think like. It's the same way nearly every professor in the -ology and -ism Studies Departments thinks, so they're turning out thousands of new leftiest every day.
Nearly all the members of the so-called media here and nearly all the Hollywood denizens think the same way as well.
And they've got control of all the branches of the federal gov too.
There's less and less actual workers who, like, you know, produce the wealth that these leeches suckle off of every day.
We are so screwed, or should I say "Trudeau'd"?
LOCK HER UP!!!!!!
Burn the witch!!
Build a bridge out of her!
Can we strip her and flog her first?
Off with her head first!
First sentence, then trial!

"Conflict Studies?" Talk about pissing your money away.
Not if you're learning to profit from conflict.
War profiteers and smugglers of blood diamonds have to learn their trade somewhere.
Even then, war trade school or an old-fashioned war apprenticeship is a better path to riches.
Sometimes ya gotta learn the hard way
+++
I fucking love this place. I just love it.
There's probably some kind of mandatory government certification and education to war in Canada these days.
It's called Royal Military College.
I got my war certification there. Never did much with it though.
Sometimes there's no substitute for a formal education, though - you can save a lot of time and effort by learning how the masters of the past did it. Probably reduces the attrition rate too... learning by doing is expensive.
In Conflict Studies, do they teach you to shut down speech you don't like?
I did my Conflict Studies dissertation on Street Fighter II: Turbo.
Um, yeah...I am waiting for the punchline on the Conflict Studies student as well. Don't get me wrong, I can see how taping your opponents mouth shut can help win a debate. I just think it's an ultimate oxymoron. I am sure this fella will flourish when he tries that in the real world. Good luck....
On balance, some schools (Leeds University comes to mind) also offer a degree in "Peace Studies." A few years back, at the university where I work a candidate applied for a job with just such a degree. No, he didn't get the job.
On another note, I've always thought it's really appropriate when Canadians describe something in their country as provincial.
Warty, quaint insight coming from what I would call a natural man.
What does that presumably devastating insult mean? I hope you're not calling me a Steve Smith. There is only one Steve Smith, as I hope you never find out.
I'll provincialize my remarks for you, Warty.
unservile of you 😉
how?????
Warty's not a man in the physiological sense, or woman either.
He just "is", natural law not withstanding.
A Doc Manhattan-American?
"She says I am like a god now. I tell her I don't think there is a god. And if there is I'm nothing like him."
"I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God."
"I am become...anonymity bot."
meh just like when Americans describe something in their country as "stately"
I do find it funny that a third rate conservative girl put Canada on its knees. If a culture can't handle a little white girl saying things it disagrees with, how the fuck is it supposed to handle the big things?
What big things has Canada handled since World War II?
care
You mean that thing their politicians come to the US for?
estimated 6 million Americans will travel abroad to take care of because they can't afford it here. You know, that thing that can cost as little as 10 percent of what they would pay at home.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH.....al.travel/
Can't afford or just want it cheap? Everything is cheaper somewhere. Like freedom of speech in Canada, but you get what you pay for. Point is nobody would go elsewhere if the cost was the same, because this is the best.
you get private nurses, a personal concierge and a spa vacation in most medical tourism deals. Aside from those perks, it includes the latest and greatest technology and procedures that are prohibited in the US.
I have a brother who lives in Canada. Tell me again how he can pay for health care on his own dime while living in the Great White North? Without breaking the law or leaving the country, I mean.
Answer - he can't. And he's still waiting for hip surgery after two years.
Fucking smarmy-ass canadian self righteous motherfuckers. Please go take a long walk in the snow on some thin ice.
Of course it's also a cash business and unencumbered by the government morass that we have here. Makes a big difference in how much things cost.
Not always just cash because insurance companies are making deals with them.
"Handled," not "bungled."
Jim, bungled is better than fucked-up:-)
I wouldn't argue with Jim. Thanks to us, he knows all about our nation's health care system first hand!
and thanks to Reasonoids, we are able to to understand the spread of STDs.
They'll have to compete with Russia and the US over the oil in the Arctic Ocean soon enough. That'll be cute.
Anne Murray, William Shatner or Tom Green, maybe? On second thought maybe your right. Too bad for them that Terrance and Phillip are just cartoon characters.
Tim Horton's donuts.
Yeah, screw them for fighting with us in Afghanistan even after we have repeatedly bombed them! What a bunch of pussies!
just cause we tag along with American hegemony doesn't make us pussy's... it really means we're fiscally conservative
Apparently I forgot to add the sarcasm tag.
use it next time
just cause we tag along with American hegemony doesn't make us pussy's... it really means we're fiscally conservative

It won't. It's Canada.
actually it was a third rate university that scared her into cancelling her speech... that's funny
Except that she didn't cancel - they did, out of fear of unrest or some such silliness
a leader of the Ugandan Jewish community (!)
You're surprised by collegiate antisemitism? Don't read any 19th or 20th Century history books...or go to a college. You'll blow a heart valve.
I think he was exclaiming the fact that there's a Ugandan Jewish Community, rather than that there is such a thing as collegiate antisemitism. But maybe I misread it.
That would be even more surprising than the first comment. But then again, some people really do think that all Jews emerged out of Brooklyn.
Talk about straw men. I'm fairly familiar with Jewish history, but I was still surprised that there were a significant number in a landlocked country in southern Africa.
And anti-Semitism on the left should never be surprising.
Ugandan Jews are a fairly recent phenomenon, the result of a king looking for a religion that would let him stay out of the clutches of various evangelical factions that were vying for them and trying to sway them to various national projects. The king made the pretty rational decision to join a group none of them could control.
How about all the Ethiopean Jews taken in by Israel:
during Operation Moses (1984) and Operation Solomon (1991), for their migration when civil war and famine threatened populations within Ethiopia.
I too assumed the exclamation point was in reference to the Ugandan Jewish community.
I was surprised that it existed also.
is [it] not incumbent upon university officials like Houle to encourage a free and open exchange of ideas, no matter how loathsome some thin-skinned students might find them?
Certainly, but the same thing is happening here in the States. Thin-skinned crybabies like Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow cannot abide any criticism whatsoever of their saintly president. The predominantly leftist MSM is nearly apoplectic over righty protests, linking words and signs to actual, physical violence. Have all these leftists forgotten the truly violent '60s?
Down the memory hole. Along with any memories of the activities of the Purple People Beaters of SEIU.
Speaking of Canada and free speech, I posted this yesterday. It seems appropriate here.
Meh, Coulter thrives on this sort of controversy. I don't know the laws of Canada, but I would imagine it is within the discretionary power of the University officials to cancel an event if they feel it would significantly disrupt campus life or in some way impede the normal functioning of the school. It certainly doesn't help Coulter that those same officials are likely to be hostile to her speech.
Can anyone explain why I'm seeing an SEIU advertisement telling me to thank Congressman Periello (my rep) for his yes vote on healthcare reform???
Are Reason readers really the target demographic of labor unions?
The ads are likely targeted by certain keywords on the page and not the actual site itself. Ergo, if there is lots of mention of SEIU or healthcare or whatever on the page the dumb adserver will show the ads, regardless of the context.
I am a Texas Longhorn fan and my gambling website ran ads for Alabama merchandise in the weeks after the BCS championship game for the exact same reason. It's all about the keywords.
...but...
Roll, Tide, Roll!
OTOH, that new QB of yours is going to be a monster.
That is funny. Get your special editions Alabama championship gear here. Sorry but I can't feel sorry for you. I am a Nebraska fan and I want our second back!!
See you in Lincoln next year.
In addition to the above, SEIU is running a TV commercial touting Periello's vote as I write this.
I'd say SEIU has been reading the National Journal.
http://reason.com/blog/2010/03.....-on-health
I don't think running ads about any Congressscum voting for HCR is going to help them get re-elected.
I applaud SEIU's effort! Good going, goons!
When I was at the University of Toronto in the early 1990s, Preston Manning -- leader of the Reform Party, a right-wing grassroots party rooted in the Canadian West, and soon-to-be Leader of the Opposition -- came to speak at Hart House. There were mass protests outside from all the usual types (various leftists, anti-racists, anti-sexists, professional activists, etc.) all shrieking that Manning was Hitler incarnate and the Reform Party a midwife for fascism by stealth. Of course, the media spent the majority of its efforts covering the protests, rather than Manning and his message (which was remarkably innocuous).
Once Manning was inside the building, the protesters grew louder and louder. Then, when Manning started to speak, they tried to storm the hall. It sounded like something out of Nazi Germany or Zimbabwe. Of course, their bark was worse than their bite -- organizers had placed large dining hall tables across the hallway entrance near the chamber, so the protesters had nowhere to go. The speech and questions continued without interruption -- sure, there were some indignant questions and so on, but Manning was very reasonable and well-argued. In the end, all was fine, although the protests were the main story, not the speech. Fears of violence dissipated pretty quickly.
I blather on this way only to tell you that Canadian leftist protesters are childish wimps who throw tantrums and not much else. If you stand up to them, they go nowhere and slink away quietly. Shutting down speeches and events just encourages more of this puerile behavior, and the press laps it up.
Manning as Hitler reincarnate, no. Big game choke-artist, yes.
I think you have him confused with Prime Minister Brent Favre.
that's funny!!
Ironic isno't it that Moynihan does not seem to display the same passion for folks who have been incarcerated for asking questions about the Jewish holocaust.
Ah, my favorite "not an anti-semite" holocaust denier, Libertymike.
Trying his best to prove that criticism of Israel really is based on anti-semitism.
That strawman is so tired and flaccid.
I wouldn't bend over in front of him, mikey.
You are the one raising the strawman mikey, i'm just clarifying your views for the viewing public.
Its truly sick a nazi apologist like you has the chutzpah to pretend to call themselves "liberty" anything. But you nazis aren't known for being smart, or consistent.
The European laws regarding this are despicable and an assault on human liberty: anyone, even odious, scum bag, piece of crap, cock sucking, bastard, mother fucking holocaust deniers are entitled to their vile lies.
Damn right, I am!
You know you are not me. Fake. Fraud.
Yes, I am.
hide you in my attic;-)
Ok, now I'm confused, I need some test to determine which one of you is the real LibertyMike so I can eliminate the alien impostor.
What's my favorite color?
You told me you like to see my ass bleed.
Like this?

suicide by anus is never funny!
It's wrong to lock someone up for speaking; it's good to know what people really think.
Oh...the krauts did kill all them jews...and fags and communists.
Let's not forget about Ike's holocaust-how many millions of german pows were starved and beaten to death from the spring of 45 through late 46?
Let's not forget that Ike carried out the orders of good ole Dougie Macarthur and opening fire on the bonus marchers in 1932. If he could kill vets who were demanding what the government promised, is it such a long walk to murdering pows?
Yes, because "Ike's Holocaust" totally happened and wasn't the figment of the imagination of a shitty historian.
Never forget those guys they sent into france to kill naatsis. They were really brutal and did not follow the conventions of war. And the Alamo, too. Don't forget that, either.
Right ? because (not excusing war crimes IF they did occur) brutality to soldiers of a regime that threw the world into war and conducted its war efforts with maximum brutality is equivalent to the planned systematic genocide of millions of men, women and children purely on the basis of ethnicity.
ok dokey
You mean what America did to the red man and the black man and the yellow man?
How about the planned, systematic planning of war conducted by the US to provoke the Japanese and the Germans? How about the mioniong of Japanese harbors? How about the funneling of men, money and machinery to the British empire so that it could continue to brutalize souteast asia?
How about the fire bomging of german cites with the deliberate intent of killing hundreds of thousands of civilians?
Okey dokey?
This time I'm glad you stuck mostly to stuff that actually happened.
In retaliation, I think the US should declare a lifetime ban on that goiter neck Canadian slam poet who ruined the Olympics opening ceremony.
RACIST!!
You noticed that too - I was sooo embarrassed - I thought what the F is that A-hole doing. Then I found out they found him on You Tube too boot and was thinking hey we actually have some really good comedians in Canada - who the hell picked this guy - must be related to someone on the VANOC board. As a Canadian, I want to say we use to have a solid identity that did not rely on insulting the US until the liberal facist Trudeau came into power and utterly destroyed our country.
"For reasons of "safety," the cowardly cops and spineless administrators at the University of Ottawa cancelled the lecture".
Not true. Coulter herself cancelled the gig.
Check yours-cops are spineless bully losers.
Way to tar all cops with the same brush.
Mike is more a fan of the gestapo.
Meh, you do know that the Nazis were national socialists. We can agree on that, right?
Meh, you do know that der feurher often said, the state uber alles. We can agree on that, right?
Meh, you do know that ole adolph was not a big fan of individualism. We can agree on that, right?

I think you get the picture.
He spelled his name Adolf, not Adolph.
You know what is irrational? The myth that holds "well, there's a rotten apple in every bunch"-as if the reality is that there is the same percentage of rotten apples in all occupations.
Way to think critically, Art.
Um, did I say the proportions were even across occupations? (hint: no) Way to think critically, Mike.
It's Canada. Who cares?
This, I think, is the proper attitude.
If these miserable frostbacks weren't held up as the moral leaders of North America, then I could ignore them as irrelevant. As it is, I relish every bit of hypocrisy that flows-forth from that permafrost wasteland, as it puts a spike in that premise.
And if I were a Canadian, I'd have to screed again in French (not that the French actually think the Brunos are actually francophone, mind you - true French speakers snort 'merde' at the thought).
Yeah, and at the Swiss, Belgians and Proven?als, too. They should be locked up with a Haitian Creole speaker for five months and then they would get a new appreciation for Quebecois, Belgian and Swiss French.
They're French. They'll turn their nose up at just about anyone and anything around them until they're left with only city block worth of "quality civilized people."
They are afraid of being exposed for something that no one gives a shi* about. Your right it's Canada.
http://www.suckitupcrybaby.com
The irony of shouting down a speaker with threats of violence in order to show the world how reasonable and "nice" you are seems to be lost on those self-important punks.
Though I firmly believe that Coulter's ideas are best left unsaid, it's even more vile that someone would stop her from doing it, especially at a university.
If she herself canceled the lecture, as has been suggested, it shows her as even worse than I thought her to be.
Either way, the quicker she disappears from our consciousness, the better.
Awwww, you'd fuck me.
Ann is office attractive. You are confined in a set parameter with another person for long periods of time, your assessment of their attractiveness becomes relative to the limited survey in front of you. For the punditry class, Ann is a ten because they are as a whole fuggly. However, if she was a stripper at my local joint, she would be the closing number on a-cup night, and would only get an annoyed scowl from Al Bundy when she came by him to hunt for ones.
Yeah, I would fuck her, but that is more a matter of my own self esteem issues than her relative attractiveness.
For the punditry class, Ann is a ten because they are as a whole fuggly.
Ahem, I beg your pardon!
For the punditry class, Ann is a ten because they are as a whole fuggly.
Ahem, I beg your pardon!
There are women on that network? I thought the premise was that a bunch of ugly dudes like Morty Kondrake and Fred Barnes cockfight for the attention of Moira Liasson. Bachelor, Ugly Edition it is not, you say?
Harris Faulker. Damn, she's hot.
There are other hot females on FNC, but I'm kinda partial to the swirl, if you get my meanin'.
Malkin's pretty hot too...not
FNC but definitely pundit.
Put down the lotion and watch my show.

She didn't but security did. But no matter, a conservative should have to put up with threats of leagal action based on a speech she has yet to give along with crowds screaming at her and trying to shut down her speech.
This is the standard environment in which conservatives have to speak in public particularly on a university campus.
Libs OTOH, well, to merely criticize them is to ask to be called a racist, sexist, homophobe, teabagger. Oh, and uncivilized too.
And if the media have no evidence of this kind of behavior from conservatives, by god, they'll just make it up. Fake but accurate is the standard!
How does this thread get 73 posts? Did anyone defend these indefensible policies? Is this thread just 73 people saying
"These laws are so dumb."
"Yes, so stupid, stupid, stupid!"
"I too find these laws to be tarded!"
73 times?
Posts should be about things people might disagree about otherwise they turn into silly circle jerks.
Wag your finger somewhere else, MNG. Don't be jealous of my beautiful commentary.
Word!
Who are you to wave your finger?
You must have been out your head.
I enjoyed the circle jerk
What can we say? Defending the indefensible is your job and you weren't around.
+!+!+!+!+!+!
Obviously coming from someone who has never actually attended a circle jerk, or else he would no how inapt that metaphor is to describe something less than awesome.
Know your 'no's, freakin' homonyms.
Pedant alert: technically, those two are homophones instead of homonyms.
it's a couple of homos
My adult niece came by earlier today because she is good friends with my girlfriend. She didn't know my gal is out of town visiting relatives. She decided to drop a bag of red hots in my fresh bottle of Tanqueray. And had the nerve to say, 'trust me, when they dissolve it is going to be awesome.'
Didn't even ask. Just did it. It has been one of those kind of days.
Double checking so I'll remember in the future, but it seems the Princeton definition of 'homonym' is of a looser construction than that given the word as it exist as a formal linguistic term:
two words are homonyms if they are pronounced or spelled the same way but have different meanings
http://www.google.com/url?q=ht.....UKm5Fk-KRg
But to avoid sounding like a 'tard in the future, I'll keep your helpful suggestion in mind.
Alan, you now have completed step 1 of your 12 step detard program.;-)
I'm trying. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
What step are you on?
Relapse much?
I was on step one but then I down loaded Taylor Swift 'Jesus Take the Wheel', and allowed myself to be billed for it, so yep, relapse.
AA meeting . Proceed
The reason why this is a focus of attention is because the REST of the industrialized world has many restrictions on speech that attack freedom of belief and conscience (among many examples, Canada actually has fucking courts where you can be brought in front of for insulting a "group", and you can go to jail in certain European countries for being LibertyMike (ok, that might make sense)).
Since so many in the health care debate have justified the system they propose with what amounts to: "if the rest of the industrialized world is doing it and we're not we must be wrong", it is only right that we focus on what other brilliant ideas we might be importing.
Does anyone here defend Obamacare?
Well, there's Chad, who thinks we still aren't enough like Europe yet.
I don't think anybody does. Any law with hundreds of loosely connected provisions is bound to get opposition from most folks.
My favorite was the caloric counter measure stuck in. I mean, that one really stretched the old sausage casing...

Giggity.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that if you go to Daily Kos or FireDogLake, you'll find almost unanimous love for Obamacare.
The left seems to live in a separate world when it comes to crap like that.
It seems to be a genetic flaw. Which is covered under ObamaCare.
I am all too familiar with the sort of administrative censorship, for at my own university, senior administrators attempted to cancel a Robert Spencer lecture all of 48 hours before his scheduled appearance. It took substantial argument, a change of venue, and a massive increase in security as paid for by my student group before they finally allowed us to continue with an event planned months earlier, and I cannot properly articulate how close they came to cancelling our guest speaker on the basis of objection by left-wing faculty members and their brainwashed students.
As one who considered going to school in Canada, and was admitted to the even more infamous York, I remain glad every day I stayed within the US for college, as the events I've had nearly cancelled would surely have been quashed there. Or at least that is what this and other stories from the past few years would seem to suggest.
I don't understand why they canceled Coulter's speech. The only way it would have been unsafe for Coulter is if the campus police refused to do their jobs and protect her.
bingo! That behaviour is typical of the police in the UK too. Unless the controversial speaker has and "acceptable" (read: approved of by leftists) POV.
The RCMP only protect Muslim demonstrations in Canada - they are afraid of the same human rights commission that Frank A Houle (provost of the University of Ottawa)was referring to as a threat in his warning shot over the head letter he wrote to Coulter you get taken to court you have to pay for a lawyer but your accuser gets one for free and truth is not a defense either.
I once dated a Canadian broad who begged me to gove her 12 inches and "make it hurt." So I banged her four times and beat smacked the s888 out of her. I think she was a UofO student, come to think of it.
four times really... only four times? it was six times wasn't it? and you did have to smack her around dint ya? Cause by the time Canadian girls finish their first year at the vaunted Carlton University (all Canadians have to go there) They've already seen at least ten cocks that are similar to this....

So.. you're only three inches?
Heyoooo
Heyoooo
Heyoooo
One for every inch.
Congratulations! You got the joke!
I once dated a girl who asked me to give her nine inches. I said "no way, babe, I fold it in half for no woman."
I don't really see why this is any different from a group of some religion denying those of other competing religions a change to speak.
You don't see how a university is different from a church?
I think Coulter should pay those students a commission.
No way she could have gotten this much publicity without their help.
They were trying to shut her up?
Talk about backfiring big-time.
panem et circensis
human rights major
WTF kind of major is that?
the kind that ensures a steady supply of EA's that suck dick
but you said you would suck my dick too.
on the other hand Coulter's right, Bush IS Awesome...

I realize that nobody is going to disagree with me (Which is a shame), but how exactly can "rhetoric" be "discriminatory"?
Moreover, I'm not *terribly* familiar with Coulter's rhetoric, but (AFAIK) race isn't one of her major topics. Or are they objecting to her stance on Islamic terrorism?
In any case, I don't see how speech can discriminate against someone. Unless you think that by exposing vulnerable minds to pernicious ideas it would bring about discimination indirectly. Which is a pretty damn pernicious idea itself - control speech so that her ideas won't spread and poison other people's minds?
WTF?
Yes, it's probably the Islam stuff. It's really quite odd how the left has changed on the topic of religious oppression. For decades they attacked Christianity for "oppression" real and imagined, but now claim "discrimination" when anyone criticizes Islam. And yet by traditional leftist standards Islam is far worse regarding women, gays, free speech, Jews, violence, etc. etc. I guess the idea is that anything opposed to mainstream America can't be all bad. Sort of like some Cold War liberals and communism: today's leftists aren't necessarily pro-Islam, they're just anti-anti-Islam.
Right. They are more reactionary than luminary. It's what college kids have done for centuries: get their heads filled with garbage by crackpot professors in an insular world until they finally get out and have to face reality for the first time. But the degree of official intolerance for opposing viewpoints is far worse these days, with speech itself now being criminalized.
It's really quite odd how the left has changed on the topic of religious oppression.
To the Left, only the West is capable of oppression. Thus, only Western religions (Judaism, Christianity) can be oppressive.
Anything done by non-Westerners is fuzzy multi-cultural diversity, and to be protected and encouraged, not condemned.
Judaism and Christianity were Mideast religions.
--In 2008, Sahiri, a leader of the Ugandan Jewish community (!), was prevented from speaking at the University of Ottawa campus because of his supposed "relationship to apartheid Israel.
Moynihan, did the speech take place, or not? You say she was prevented from speaking, then in the next sentence quote B. Kay 'the speech was about...'
Did it take place at another venue? The National post link makes it sound like it took place, but was not funded by students.
I wonder what percentage of the Protesters were not Students but Paid Agitators ?
Came over here to REASON from link at INSTAPUNDIT. Boy, what a bunch of weenies that post here. I've seen better postings on teenager blogs. Your losing it Reason.com. I won't be back bitches.
Awwww. We're going to miss you. You sure you wont be back, we can talk about the latest vampire romance, and stuff if you wanted.
She turned me into a newt!
And, yet, Topan's rhetoric is discriminatory. I still wonder if the left just doesn't get it or they just hope the rest of the rubes don't get it.

How about the Provost's ungrammatical sentence in which he stated "different than" rather than the correct "different from."
George Orwell couldn't have written a better script than Ann Coulter did for this.
You'd think the sheer cognitive dissonance arising from saying something as baldly self-contadictory as "to ensure that we don't have her discriminatory rhetoric on our campus"
would cause the speakers head to spin around on it's axis.
I cry for Canada, even as an American.
I blame Ann Coulter. When they told her they were canceling the talk because they "couldn't guarantee her security", she should have told them to screw off, and walked in and given the talk anyway.
