Bring The People Back: Reason Saves Cleveland With Drew Carey, Ep. 6

No city can exist without people and Cleveland has lost more than half its population since the 1950s. Yet the city still boasts amazingly affordable neighborhoods, down-to-earth charm, a rich history, a stunning and varied landscape, and diverse ethnic and cultural scenes.

How can Cleveland become a destination where people flock to pursue their personal versions of the American Dream?

Since every city from St. Louis to Buffalo has the same issues (despite the states all being politically moderate), one might think that their troubles have more to do with regional macro-trends rather than petty local politics, don't you think?

Except PA would throw a wrench in there as would Indiana to a degree.
NY, Ohio and IL are all fairly left wing states with high taxation. 2 hours away Pittsburgh is doing very well, I go there often and there is always some new construction going on, never anything in Cleveland.

The problem (at least in Cleveland) is that the politicians are more interested in their fiefdoms than running the city well from which the people benefit.

The way Drew Carey feels about Cleveland is how I feel about Baltimore. I just love it

But it doesn't love me back. I live here, yet spend very little time here. I go out in the counties because it's cleaner and safer. Crime is outrageous. The local income tax is the second highest in the state. Property taxes are double what the surrounding counties are. One of the biggest problems is the fact that the working class moved out, while the parasitic class multiplied and are sucking the city dry. The budget for the city is scandalous. I'd like to start a business, but am afraid to even find out what the process is.

Frankly, I'm looking to leave the city.
