Because He's Not Done Yet With Health Care, Has Passed Budget-Busting Stimulus, & Still Has a Few Popularity Points Left, Obama Vows Comprehensive Immigration Reform…
President Barack Obama on Thursday assured immigration advocates frustrated by the wait for a promised overhaul of U.S. immigration laws that he remains committed to fixing a system he has said is broken.
What remains unclear is whether Congress will send him a bill this year. Obama also met separately later in the day with Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who gave the president an outline of a bill they are drafting. Obama said afterward in a statement that he "looked forward to reviewing their promising framework."
One part of that "promising framework" is more tired than Charlie Rose's lower jaw muscles:
Another idea on the table is some type of high-tech Social Security card to keep illegal immigrants from getting jobs.
After meeting for more than an hour with Obama, immigration advocates told reporters they want Schumer and Graham to at least release their blueprint before a planned March 21 demonstration at the Capitol, with a bill introduced in the Senate soon after. The relatively short timetable for getting major legislation out of Congress in a midterm election year is one obstacle to getting a bill that combines tougher border enforcement with a pathway to legalization for the estimated 12 million people in the U.S. illegally.
That "high-tech Social Security card" will reportedly include biometric data and will be mandatory for all U.S. workers. In other words, a national I.D. card with the capability to track just about everybody and everything that's going on in the land of the free and the home of the brave. To read why the dream (or, more accurately, nightmare) of national I.D. cards won't work, check this out.
Sen. Graham appears to be dedicated to this exercise to doubtless protect the last fraying remnant of the massively protected South Carolina textile industry from modernity. Sen. Schumer? He doesn't need any reason to act foolishly.
Given the recession, the looming possibility of new taxes (for health care, cap and trade, to pay for the stimulus, you name it), massive new employer regulations (for all the same reasons), the downward trend in illegal immigration, this seems like the perfect time to inject even more uncertainty into the employment system. Thanks a lot, fellas.
Is this any way to run a country? Are there some promising idiot execs in the GM and Chrysler divisions of the U.S. government that we can swap into leadership roles in the D.C. office?
The Wall Street Journal's Jason Riley makes the case to Let Them In! below.

Will the ID cards actually have GPS tracking ability, so someone will be able to know exactly where you are at any time? Forget about ID cards. We need subdermal microchips that explode if you try to remove them.
Once smart toilets become available, as they are in Japan, DHS will be able to download your, er, downloads to check if you've been smoking or eating bad things, like milk, meat and whitebread.
The national biometric ID card is one of those ideas that sounds good while bullshitting over the topic in a bar. The problem is that you would have to issue say 200 million of them one each adult in the country. Essentially it would make everyone into an legal permanent resident. Everyone would have to have permission from the government to work. Even the government were fabulous and got 99.9% of the cards right, they would still fuck up two million cards. That would mean two million people would not be able to work until they go DHS and the social security administration to fix it. What are the chances they would even do that well? Then of course there is all of the potential for abuse. Since the government would essentially be able to veto anyone's ability to work, how long before someone comes up with the bright idea of putting special markers on cards for say sex offenders? Hey, why not just mark there cards and that way they can never work at schools and such? What a great idea that would be. A great idea for everyone except the poor bastards whom the government mistakenly marked their cards as sex offenders. And how long before some political hack at DHS or Social Security goes in and screws with the cards and certification of their political enemy de jour.
We had the Church Commission because we found out that we couldn't trust the CIA and the intel community not to fuck with Americans. Yet, somehow we are supposed to trust DHS and the Social Security Administration with the livelihoods of every American. Fuck that. National ID cards would make us aliens in our own country. Anyone who supports it has no concern for civil liberties or privacy.
Not if you think it through it doesn't. But there is some intuitive appeal to having such an ID. But all of that goes away when you start thinking it through.
Actually, 200K bad cards at 1 per 1000, but point remains viable. But man, imagine how badly you could fuck over your ex-spouse if you worked for DHS... "You'll never work in this nation again!"
Ah yes, the statist dream of a national ID card lives on. How long until the law requires you to carry it on your person in public?
IIRC, diuring the debate over the SS Act of 1935, some worried Social Security numbers would become a national ID for everyone in the country. Supporters of the act assured the American public that would never happen.
Dribbles and drabs. That's how freedom and personal sovreignity go down the drain.
Sen. Graham appears to be dedicated to this exercise to doubtless protect the last fraying remnant of the massively protected South Carolina textile industry from modernity.
In fairness, the phrase should be once-massively protected. There were some serious liberalizations of textile tariffs and quotas that went into effect during GWB's Presidency. It's certainly affected North and South Carolina.
California--THE SANCTUARY STATE--IS broke because of the invasion. Arizona and border states are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Many other states like New York also have massive debt, because they have pandered to impoverished, desperate foreigners. WHY do you think many states other than Sanctuary California is mandating E-Verify? Utah is signing E-Verify into law as it passed the house. Enforce immigration laws, secure the border and resuscitate Proposition 187 (cutting of welfare to illegal alien families in California) that never was allowed to reach the Supreme Court. Station the National Guard along the border. Make illegal entry into the United States a felony. Arizona has very rigid immigration law pending. Georgia too and others have enforcement laws.
Here is are some quick fact: JANUARY WELFARE COSTS FOR CHILDREN OF ILLEGAL ALIENS EXCEEDED $50 MILLION DOLLARS March 9th 2009 LOS ANGELES COUNTY ? Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services showing that illegal aliens' children born in the United States collected over $50 million in welfare benefits (CALWORKS + Food Stamps) for the month of January.
Approximately 23% of all CALWORKS and food stamp issuance in Los Angeles County are made to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children. "When you add this to $350 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for health-care, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year ? not including the millions of dollars for education," said Antonovich.
Don't listen to the rhetoric and propaganda of critics about E-VERIFY. ITS being progressively upgraded, with new innovations to stop illegal workers STEALING YOUR JOBS. Its your right and an obligation of our politicians to enforce this law and to serve Americans and not cater to 20 to 30 million alien families.
Mandate E-Verify for every business throughout America and not just for new hires. Every violation should carry a harsh penalty. Fines, confiscation of business assets and prison. Enforce aiding and abetting law that includes University professors, anybody who assists, transports illegal aliens. No AMNESTY or any other law favoring the illegal immigration occupation of our country. Join Pro-sovereignty, anti-illegal immigration organizations. Make available special visas for the highest technical skills including scientists, engineers, etc. Stop importing foreign national who will end up in the welfare rolls and become a liability for taxpayers. Most important of all immediately terminate the instant citizen-birthright (Anchor baby) law.

Amazingly, I half agree with one thing out of your diatribe.
The US need not rescind citizenship for children born of foreign nationals. But the US should immediately terminate individualized welfare for citizens born of immigrants. Children should receive individualized welfare only on the schedule that their parents receive individualized welfare. For illegal immigrants, that's never.
I would frankly argue that even legal immigrants should be ineligible for individualized welfare for at least 20 years. Welfare cannot be a draw for migration.
These people aren't human. I don't refer to immigrants; I mean the ObamaBots.
Nice to see some things never change - like Gillespie promoting his "Final Solution Through Substitution" program for white people.
Q: White People, what are you going to do with them?
A: Fuckem and make their children light brown.
Retard Alert!
Hi-tech, the new code word for facist.

Can you believe it, I've lost my "high-tech Social Security card" again.
Sorry.
I'm slightly surprised that nobody has denounced this as the mark of the beast yet. But it's early...
It might as well be.
I fully support biometric tracking for LoneWacko.

I prefer to remain ignorant of LoneWacko's whereabouts.
Sorry, JL, but I think he's just up the thread here.

Instead the driver's license has become a national ID, as I found out once when I foolishly attempted to get a passport without one.
