I thought it was 1.3 billion dollars spent and 56 jobs created. My bad.

  9. brotherben   16 years ago

56 states? Which one didn't get any new jobs?

    1. Ska   16 years ago

New Calorado, and man are they pissed!

    2. Rich   16 years ago

      It had its jobs *saved*.

  10. Jim Bob   16 years ago

    I like it.

  11. Russ R.   16 years ago

Shouldn't it be "created or saved", and "57 states"?

  12. P Brooks   16 years ago

  13. Warren   16 years ago

Payne hits the lottery with "fishy job numbers".

    Amusing.

IF the obama administration wants to promote job growth, wouldn't it make sense to increase SNAP food credit? The food industry would benefit + more job hours.

  15. Ike   16 years ago

This is WRONG, and Payne owes the POTUS an apology!

Obama NEVER said there were 56 states.

    (he said 57.)

    1. LarryA   16 years ago

But that was back when he was counting Washington, D.C. Then the city council/provisional state government cut off their nose to save their gun control law, so now it's only 56.

  16. sharkweek   16 years ago

Kinda dumb, but it got a good laugh from me, so it's much better than most Friday Funnies.

  17. matt   16 years ago

Could have been funnier without the thought bubble from the guy. If I drew it I'd have the guy staring at the poster with a puzzled expression on his face.

Kinda like those Garfield comics that get way funnier when you remove all of Garfield's dialog.

  18. Nicholas   16 years ago

uuhhh. that's stupid, because last i checked there are only 50 states in the US... so.. joke's on you.

  19. Tholan   16 years ago

Obama NEVER said there were 56 states.

NO. HE SAID 57 STATES AND ONE LEFT TO GO. SO 58 STATES. IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS JOKE, YOU HAVE TO GET THE NUMBERS RIGHT. NOW FIX IT.

My only point is that if you take the Bible straight, as I'm sure many of Reasons readers do, you will see a lot of the Old Testament stuff as absolutely insane. Even some cursory knowledge of Hebrew and doing some mathematics and logic will tell you that you really won't get the full deal by just doing regular skill english reading for those books. In other words, there's more to the books of the Bible than most will ever grasp. I'm not concerned that Mr. Crumb will go to hell or anything crazy like that! It's just that he, like many types of religionists, seems to take it literally, take it straight...the Bible's books were not written by straight laced divinity students in 3 piece suits who white wash religious beliefs as if God made them with clothes on...the Bible's books were written by people with very different mindsets.
