  1. guy in the back row   16 years ago

Wow, that is one racist picture.

    1. Fist of Etiquette   16 years ago

      Is racist the correct term?

I'm searching for a word to describe when someone draws a European caricature that looks like that.

      1. hmm   16 years ago

        accurate?

      2. wingnutx   16 years ago

It reminds me of an illustration from National Lampoon's "Foreigners Around the World".

    2. Ska   16 years ago

I hear ya - not every Swede wears spectacles and sports a double chin.

    3. Rich   16 years ago

I agree. I've never seen as egregious a depiction of a Norwegian.

      1. NorLib   16 years ago

Indeed! As a Norwegian I am apalled. reason, you can expect a lawsuit the coming week on behalf of 4.7 million furious Norwegians.

    4. Banana-eating Jungle Monkey   16 years ago

      I'm offended.

  2. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

Goddamn! When did they let Ratboy out of his cage!?

    1. Groovus Maximus   16 years ago

      Weekly World News much?

Ohh, I thought you meant Batboy....well, bat DO have large ears!

  3. Mango Punch   16 years ago

    WE WANT XKCD!!!!!!!

    1. Team America   16 years ago

      +1

      1. John Tagliaferro   16 years ago

        +2

        1. Mango Punch   16 years ago

Like this would have been perfect to put up about beer gate.

Reason should at least allow readers so submit their sketches/cartoons.

          1. Mainer   16 years ago

Did the police officer swear at Gates ?

            1. Big B   16 years ago

He's a cop. What do you think?

          2. Big B   16 years ago

            Classic

    2. Tholan   16 years ago

      like this: http://xkcd.com/639/

  4. parse   16 years ago

What a fresh take on the whole Nobel controversy. I'm looking forward to Stantis' take on the Treaty of Ghent.

  5. @   16 years ago

    It's true because it's funny.

  6. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

You know what this picture reminds me of? It took me a while to get it but I busted out these books due to the holiday and the picture above reminds me somewhat of the artwork from the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. This pic is more direct but I think it could fit in.

This post is of no significance. I just thought it was kind of cool.

  7. Xeones   16 years ago

I hear Michael Jackson died, too.

    1. Rich   16 years ago

Oh. Well, then, *his* Nobel Prize will be posthumous.

      1. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

That's why he's getting the prize. His dying brought peace to the children of the world.

Or maybe the peace of mind I recieved at the image of him clutching at his chest and grabbing his crotch at the moment of the attack and screaming "Hee-HEEEEE!!!"

        1. Micheal Jackson   16 years ago

Jamon, Jamon...on de beet sha now hamnon HUH!

          HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

          1. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

            ZOMBIE!!!!!

            1. Micheal Jackson   16 years ago

              Where's my prize?!

              1. Zombie Public Option   16 years ago

                I want one also!!

  8. hmm   16 years ago

A comic of the DC network pool kicking the snot out of Obama would have been funnier, and a little more timely.

  9. Scott Stantis   16 years ago

Get it, guys? I tried to say that President Obama has largely done nothing to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize! Hah!

It's extra funny because I added elephant-like ears and large Chiclet teeth to Obama's visage.

My next masterpiece will involve Ben Bernanke furiously working a bike pump attached to a bubble labeled "Housing". Where do I come up with this stuff?!

    1. Groovus Maximus   16 years ago

Where do I come up with this stuff?!

I am born anew in your brilliance.

    2. Kolohe   16 years ago

My next masterpiece will involve Ben Bernanke furiously working a bike pump attached to a bubble labeled "Housing".

That actually wouldn't be too bad.

      1. domoarrigato   16 years ago

how bad is it when it's actually impossible to mock the friday funnies, because the you cant think of bad enough jokes.

  10. Untermensch   16 years ago

Anyone else noticed that caricatures of Obama and Bush II look quite a bit alike? They both feature Dumbo ears.

    1. SugarFree   16 years ago

Big ears are easier to draw.

    2. joshua corning   16 years ago

It is short hand for "this is the president of the US"...sort of like all those pictures with halos over saints.

  11. Xeones   16 years ago

Untermensch: That's 'cause Barack Obama is George Bush with a tan and better PR.

    1. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

      :clapping:

Snark aside, you're hitting real close to the mark with that one X.

    2. @   16 years ago

Obama has way more entertaining staff as well, and by entertaining
      I mean Special Olympics-brand entertainment.

    3. Warren   16 years ago

Don't forget the months he spent living with Professor Higgins.

  12. Groovus Maximus   16 years ago

That's 'cause Barack Obama is George Bush with a tan and better PR.

Threadwinner. Well played, sir. Well played.

  13. Warren   16 years ago

Dang, this would have been terrific two weeks ago. Probably the best Obama's Nobel cartoon I've seen.

    Funny
    Late to the Party
    Very good artwork
    Grade: B

  14. The Yellow Kid   16 years ago

    I liked it!

  15. anarch   16 years ago

Pasting his birth certificate in the blank space would be a start.

    1. anarch   16 years ago

      Shoulda said Constitute a start.

  16. Colonel_Angus   16 years ago

The drawing of Obama reminds me of this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_with_Meat

  17. Yerbaff   16 years ago

    OK. This is bugging me...

They're shanking wrists, not shaking hands. I'm not around anyone to shake their hands to test this out, but shouldn't Obama's thumb be on Obama's side of the other guy's thumb?

  18. Matthew   16 years ago

The "Friday Funnies" cartoon is definitely the lamest aspect of the entire Reason site. Santis seems incapable of doing anything more than giving poor graphic realization to his always unfunny ideas.

  19. HeadTater   16 years ago

I was just reading an opinion piece in my local paper that Ernie Banks (the former Cubs player) deserves a Nobel as much as Obama.

My only point is that if you take the Bible straight, as I'm sure many of Reasons readers do, you will see a lot of the Old Testament stuff as absolutely insane. Even some cursory knowledge of Hebrew and doing some mathematics and logic will tell you that you really won't get the full deal by just doing regular skill english reading for those books. In other words, there's more to the books of the Bible than most will ever grasp. I'm not concerned that Mr. Crumb will go to hell or anything crazy like that! It's just that he, like many types of religionists, seems to take it literally, take it straight...the Bible's books were not written by straight laced divinity students in 3 piece suits who white wash religious beliefs as if God made them with clothes on...the Bible's books were written by people with very different mindsets..
