Drunk with Power

Travis Peterson knew he was too drunk to drive home after a concert by the Dave Matthews Band, so he decided to sleep it off in his car. But a Wisconsin state trooper woke him up and ordered him to leave the parking lot. Peterson explained he was too drunk to drive, but the officer ordered him to leave. As soon as he drove out of the parking lot, Peterson was arrested for DUI. A court found him guilty of the charge, but a state appellate court threw out the conviction, saying Peterson should have been allowed to argue he was entrapped.

In Alaska he did not even have to drive out of the lot. If he is sleeping and the keys are in his pocket he is guilty of drunk driving. It makes me think safety is not the primary concern. Try to do the safe thing, you are still guilty. It does encourage people to drive away after drinking. I don't feel protected or served by these type of actions.

Face it, if your near a car and have seen somebody drink alcohol within the last 6 hours, they can probably get you for DUI. They have the badges and the guns and the courts assume they always tell the truth. They can do whatever they want.

This would normally infuriate me, but since the guy was at a Dave Matthews show I have no sympathy for him.

I've been to a DMB show, and believe me-the MGM Grand in Vegas ran out of beer and margaritas in under an hour.. 🙂

didn't Pete Coors get busted for DWI outside of his mansion working on the engine of a high end sports car, just because the keys were in the ignition and he had a beer?

With most local police forces only solving about 5% of the crimes committed in any given year, you'd think they'd have more important stuff to be doing.

But hey, when your job performance is so poor, you've gotta take 'em where you can get 'em, eh?
