British Nanny State Runs Nanny Racket
Yesterday I wrote about a woman in Michigan who was being harassed by state bureaucrats for watching her neighbors kids without a license.
Several readers sent a similar story from Britain about two families who took turns watching one another's children. Apparently, British authorities determined that the reciprocity amounted to a form of compensation, and ordered them to end the arrangement.
The case is now under review.

Can't have little kids getting individual attention from their parent's best friends, can we? Get them into massive government child care programs, with one adult per sixty kids! Thanks, British Nanny State for making people miserable enough that they need what I'm selling!
Is nanny the right term or should it be Au Pair? I guess whichever one is more expensive is the right one.
Suki -- Au Pair carries the connotation that she has a nice pair.
Totally different vibe than nanny.
When will the English revolt? A few dozen drunken football hooligans could topple the monarchy with very little property damage.
prolefeed,
Ya, gotcha.

Compensation. The horror. Next thing you know, people will start exchanging money for goods and services. Eeeek! Profits! Capitalism!

And to thing the London School of Economics is located in England . . .
Nothing on Roman Polanski's arrest yet? I hope the little creep gets extradited and sentenced in LA.
Whitewashing Roman Polanski
I do like his movies however.
And what about all those step-moms? An exception is made for relatives (big hearted of them), but stepmom isn't really related and gets "compensation" in the form of food, lodging, and "sexual favors". Clearly this must be regulated.
So the Golden Rule is now verboten in the UK?
What the hell happened to the British? Seriously, what do they do at times like this? Take a quick sip of tea and say "Jolly bad luck old bean, this certainly is not cricket. Blimey!" This is why I still like the rough edges around our politics - at least we're not as whipped as the Brits.
Recently a school in Britain held a sports event and hilariously banned all the parents from attending because there may be kidnappers or pedophiles amongst them.
They've gone completely off the deep end over there.
dbc,

I like totally covered that man!
Jane Jacobs, the supposed profit of modern liberals and their views of city planning, etc., is rolling over in her grave.
Proposal:
It takes a village to raise a child.
First draft:
It takes a cohesive group of individuals to facilitate a coordinated effort to create a responsible, adolescent population.
Final policy:
In order for the purpose of maximum utilization of legally recognized minors under the law (hereafter known as units) and to obtain proper socialization and achievement it shall henceforth be required that persons, institutions and organizations that are in direct contact (or within proximity that engenders direct causal relationships) to units, be required to obtain proper licensing from local, state and/or federal authorities to determine and ensure proper guidelines, regulations and implementation of approved activities, curriculums and oversight, and associated fees (monetary or otherwise) associated with such transactions.

They're already revolting, have you seen their teeth?

Britain has been suffering a brain drain for several centuries, as their best and brightest people have been emigrating to the outposts of the empire and the remnants thereof.
I've got a couple of British friends who told me that the last straw that made them give up on the UK and move to the USA was trying to start a business there.

They've had a multi-century head start, but we're gaining fast.
You say Minister, I say Mr. Czar.
Let's call the whole thing off.
Simpsons: It's the? BIG BOOK OF BRITISH SMILES!
Well, if you're British, why trust your kids to an ordinary family when you could get the Super-Nanny?
And to thing the London School of Economics is located in England . . .
Its my understanding that the LSE has been a hotbed of Marxism for some time now.
Not that I'm surprised, but that is disgusting. The scary thing is that we are hot on their heels.
This shit won't stop until examples are made of bureaucrats and politicians. A few of them hanging from lampposts and screaming on videotape would be enough to dissuade the others.

That's what the pantywaste anti-hero in Brazil fantasizes about, and yet that's exactly what put them into their hands; while Tuttle and the trucker chick go on with their lives underground, letting the shit pile destroy itself.
Point being: it's too fucking big. We're several hundred years beyond tar and feathers teaching anybody a lesson. Totalitarian thought is pervasive and assumed. This is Progress.
