Ramirez, you've outdone yourself! Look upon his work and despair:

  1. Cabeza de Vaca   16 years ago

Damn, that is in really poor taste.

  2. John-David   16 years ago

    That airplane is racist.

  3. thew83   16 years ago

I prefer the t-shirts at tshirthell that say "I [image of airplane] NY"

  4. MP   16 years ago

    and here and here.

  5. sage   16 years ago

Uh, does that say Van Jones on the plane? Pardon the ignorance but who is that?

  6. Mister DNA   16 years ago

Not only is it bad taste, it's a blatant rip off of Paris's Sonic Jihad album cover.

  7. P Dier   16 years ago

    TOO SOON

  8. $   16 years ago

    TOO LATE

  9. ben tej   16 years ago

Poor taste or not, it doesn't even really make that much sense.

  10. yarrrr   16 years ago

I usually like Ramirez, but this was pretty bad...

"Poor taste or not, it doesn't even really make that much sense."

You're right, it should have been a rocket made to look like a plane with the words "Van Jones" on it...

  11. WWJGD   16 years ago

Poor taste or not, it doesn't even really make that much sense.

I had to stare at it for a bit. The fallout will be funnier than the cartoon.

  12. Xeones   16 years ago

It's still funnier than the Friday Funnies.

  13. sage   16 years ago

OK, I looked it up. Hee hee. Hey look over there, Joe Wilson called Dear Leader a (gulp) liar!

  14. Fist of Etiquette   16 years ago

How come I can see the whole cartoon on the comment page here, but on Friday Funnies I'd still be another mouse click away?

  15. Scarcity   16 years ago

And yet another click from the open criticism thread.

  16. Medic001   16 years ago

    Over it.

  17. The Angry Optimist   16 years ago

    Christ that's terrible.

  18. SugarFree   16 years ago

    Dragons Awake!
Take me through the Voodoo Buddha
You are the King of Things
    I am a fake

    Over the treetops
    An automan and automatic girl

    Predator, skin an orangutan alive

  19. R C Dean   16 years ago

Uh, does that say Van Jones on the plane? Pardon the ignorance but who is that?

I see sage is a NYT reader.

  20. FrBunny   16 years ago

I'm going to be so upset when SugarFree comes down from this high.

  21. FrBunny   16 years ago

How come I can see the whole cartoon on the comment page here, but on Friday Funnies I'd still be another mouse click away?

    Mercy?

  22. Kevin   16 years ago

It's kind of sad to read the comments about the other three cartoons and not see anything from Warty, SugarFree, or Xeones. On the plus side, it doesn't look like Tony was around then either.

  23. Douglas Fletcher   16 years ago

Whatever happened to that wonkette chick anyway?

  24. Gummo   16 years ago

Rates somewhere near this on the taste scale I'd say:

    http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2009/09/911-was-nothing-according-to-new-wwf-ad.html

  25. Yet Another Domestic Terrorist   16 years ago

I liked the Tim Russert one with the peackock's tail composed of collapsing condoms, though I'll admit I have no idea what it signifies and only the foggiest notion of who Tim Russert was.

This one here would be funny and appropriate if the Jones thing had imploded (or demolished, ha ha) the administration, but most Americans seem to accept the president's insane and bigoted friends as a harmless quirk.

  26. SugarFree   16 years ago

I'm going to be so upset when SugarFree comes down from this high.

Am I to become profligate as if I were a blonde? Or religious
    as if I were French?

Each time my heart is broken it makes me feel more adventurous
(and how the same names keep recurring on that interminable
list!), but one of these days there'll be nothing left with
    which to venture forth.

Why should I share you? Why don't you get rid of someone else
    for a change?

I am the least difficult of men. All I want is boundless love.

    ...

  27. Kool   16 years ago

    Jesus, SugarFree...

Do I dare eat a peach?

  28. Hazel Meade   16 years ago

This would be amusing if instead of a large aircraft aimed at the White House, they had made Van Jones a giant puppet wielded by a team of Marxist hippies.

  29. RTG   16 years ago

This would be amusing if instead of a large aircraft aimed at the White House, they had made Van Jones a giant puppet wielded by a team of Marxist hippies.

Would a bomb with "Van Jones" on it ridden by Glen Beck (ala Dr. Strangelove) be too much?

  30. R C Dean   16 years ago

Would a bomb with "Van Jones" on it ridden by Glen Beck (ala Dr. Strangelove) be too much?

    Obviously, that would be racist.

  31. Episiarch   16 years ago

I told NutraSweet not to take the brown acid, but he never listens to me.

  32. Some Guy   16 years ago

Obviously the cartoonist is reminding us that the victims of 9/11 associated with terrorists.

  33. John C. Randolph   16 years ago

Van Jones would be more like an ultralight.

  34. Paul   16 years ago

Uh, does that say Van Jones on the plane? Pardon the ignorance but who is that?

I see sage is a NYT reader.

    Sssssnap! Win!

  35. @   16 years ago

Look upon his work and despair

Really? He's the best cartoonist out there.
A superior illustrator with an uncommon ability to get to the root of an issue in one panel.
His are what editorial cartoons used to be; GenSnark retards be damned.

  36. Colin   16 years ago

I often disagree with Ramirez's message, but his artwork is second to none among cartoonists.

  37. BoscoH   16 years ago

I realized this morning that the terrorists did indeed win when CNN paused for a moment of silence to commemorate the exact moment that Bernie Kerik stepped into his secret apartment to get a badly needed blow job from Judith Regan.

We've turned outrage into sentimentality. It's not pretty, folks. It seems to get worse every year.

  38. mike   16 years ago

can you imagine the rightwing outrage had it said 'cheney' and come out last year?

  39. bobzmoose   16 years ago

Meh. I've seen way more offensive things on the net (some of which haunt me in my sleep...). At least it's an honest assessment of what Van Jones might end up meaning to this administration.

    @mike

Where's the left wing outrage about this? Nowhere. Nobody cares what these hack cartoonists do...

  40. mtc   16 years ago

Forget the 9/11 reference, what about the fact the plane has testicles? Those two little pods toward the rear of the fuselage are not engines. Maybe I'm just not up to date on the latest in aviation design, but I've never seen a plane like that. IT HAS BALLS!

  41. mtc   16 years ago

On further consideration, not one pointed this out because they just assumed it was a Mon Calamari star cruiser outfitted for an atmospheric suicide mission.

  42. Paul   16 years ago

19 guys got lucky and sucker punched us on 9/11/2001. As a result we're treated to kitchy images of bald eagles with tears in their eyes and I have to suffer the War on Liquids and Shoes everytime I fly. And now every cop and police department has extra super special powers over the civilians in this nation because "terrorism is everwhere".

Win for bringing a tear to my eye

Your 2:06 post is absolutely correct, mtc.
