Hurricane Sheila Understands the Constitution, Lists MJ's Hospital Visits in HR 600
Can someone ask Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee's piteous constituents in Texas's 18th district what they make of her grandstanding at Michael Jackson's mawkish public funeral? Lee, previously only famous for bemoaning the lack of "African-American hurricane names," stepped to the lectern at the Staples Center this afternoon and defended MJ's honor after Rep. Peter King (R-NY), a longtime supporter of Fenian terrorism, called the singer a "pervert."
"I can tell you as a member of the United States Congress, we understand the Constitution, we understand laws and we know that people are innocent until proven otherwise. That is what the Constitution stands for."
Lee also informed the assembled mourners of the recently tabled House Resolution 600 which would honor "an American legend and musical icon" and waste even more of the congresswoman's precious time. The entire text of the resolution, documenting every sick kid Jackson weirded out, can be viewed here. A sampling:
—Whereas in December 1991, Michael's office MJJ Productions donated more than 200 turkey dinners to needy families in Los Angeles
—Whereas, on February 7, 1989, Michael visited the Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California, a site of playground violence where 5 children had been tragically killed and 39 had been wounded
– Whereas, on March 1, 1988, at a press conference held by his sponsor Pepsi, Michael presented a $600,000 check to the United Negro College Fund
– Whereas in the early 1980s, Michael Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as `Beat It', `Billie Jean' and `Thriller'–widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form–helped bring the relatively new channel to fame.

“”I can tell you as a member of the United States Congress, we understand the Constitution,”
You may indeed understand it. The more important question is if you follow it. The answer to that question is “no”.
Uh, I don’t mean this in a creepifying Alberto Gonzales way, but there’s nothing in the Constitution about being innocent until proven guilty.
we understand laws and we know that people are innocent until proven otherwise.
No, you are guilty or not based on what you have done or not done, regardless of what any tribunal says.
In our criminal justice system, you presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
There’s a difference, you ignorant twat.
Oh, and I would take issue with the assertion that any of the Congresswoman’s time is valuable. From here, it looks like its all completely wasted.
For all we know, MJ might continue his good works one of these days.
I await hurricane Michael Jackson. Screaming along the Florida coast raping the Floridians, at least the young boys, and spewing hot air every where.

Right and the only person that knows what he did or didn’t do is Michael Jackson, and the “victims”.
So Peter King should shut the fuck up, unless he knows something the rest of the world doesn’t. In which case he should offer up whatever he knows but is keeping a lid on.
I’m not a fan of Jackson, but the man was acquitted. If Mr. King wants to wage war on perverts maybe he should start with the GOP?
Wait, what does this have to do with marijuana visits to hospitals?
CT, RC, can’t we just all admit that King and Jackson-Lee are both ignorant twats? I mean, they were both elected to Congress, weren’t they? That’s generally a pretty good indicator.
Makes me glad I live in the Fightin’ 14th.
Houston politicians all pretty much suck.
CT –
Not sure why you’d try to defend MJ, but I think there is a huge difference in speculating MJ to be a pervert based on the payoffs versus an idiotic congresswomen who doesn’t understand the Constitution or the legal system.
Just curious – does it bother you when people call OJ a murderer?
does it bother you when people call OJ a murderer?
OJ was set up, man! By the racist LAPD!
SJL, defender of AA names for hurricanes, and, inquirer as to whether the Mars rovers would be sending back pics of the flags the astronauts left in ’69…a real gem of a gal who parlayed her feckless time on city cncl to her sinecure for life in DC.
As a Houston area dweller I will confirm the statment that most area politicos suck the big one.
I half agree with King’s statments about Micheal Jackson. King was wrong to call MJ a pervert, because he was acquitted. However, I agree that the praise and media attention poured on MJ over the past week was overkill.
I don’t get the luxury of having SJL as my congress-thing anymore, but I still cringe at the notion that she has (D-TX) after her name. She was the same camera-hog when she served as a city council-thing some years back. I have hopes that she’s pissing off her constituency, though, as some of the black business community in her district has turned against her in recent years (a prominent local black restaurateur backed out of running against her in last year’s primary at the last minute). Just this afternoon I was overjoyed to hear a black caller on local talk radio categorize her and Al Sharpton as “what we call poverty pimps”. What’s that lede about the most dangerous place to be? Between Sheila Jackson Lee and a camera? The local black ministry is all she wants (or needs) support from (hence all of the camera time they get to share with her on local and even national news), so she figures the black businesses can go to hell. The only hope of drumming her out of that seat any time soon is to get a prominent local minister pissed at her. I’m welcome to any suggestions (lies and slander included).
Lee, previously only famous for bemoaning the lack of “African-American hurricane names,”
In the ATL there was outrage over attributing dangerous road conditions to “black ice”.
We should get rid of black crayons as well. They are racist. They also taste like shit.
bemoaning the lack of “African-American hurricane names”
And what am I, chopped liver?
Whereas, SJL is widely credited with transforming the House Resolution from a promotional tool into an art form …

He would have been wrong to call him a convicted pervert. He would have been risking a libel suit by calling him a pervert, but I’m not sure that the estate of a dead man can bring a libel suit.
Whether or not Jackson was a pervert is not settled at all by the actions of a court.
Peter King is a supporter of Fenian “terrorists”? I guess the Irish should have just stayed in their houses while jackbooted nazi thugs kicked in their doors, refused them jobs, stole their wealth and shot innocent children.
Let’s not forget the outrage of using the term “black hole” to describe space cavities that happen to absorb light rather than emit it.
“Whether or not Jackson was a pervert is not settled at all by the actions of a court.”
Peter King was wrong to call Michael Jackson a pervert. Other than the most sensational, tabloid reports, what is King basing his opinion on? Does Peter King have information the rest of us are not privy to?
Rep. King probably read the tabloid stories, took them as true, and filled in the gaps with his imagination. I’m not ruling out Jackson as some sort of pervert. Its just that the prosecution couldn’t prove it in court, and the facts that are public don’t support it either. Weirdo, maybe. Kid-banger? I dunno. Maybe Mr. King liked to shave his back hair, put on some parachute pants and pretend to be a 10 year old boy.
