Cut to the Bone!
A snapshot of pared-to-the-bone governance in California, courtesy of the L.A. Times:
Los Angeles County government has more than 8,000 phones that never ring. The annual cost to taxpayers? At least $1.5 million and climbing.
Officials worry that some lines may have never served a county purpose. One was registered to a now-defunct ticket brokerage in Hollywood called Theatix. For 14 years, the bill for the line -- currently $38 a month -- has been paid by taxpayers.
Give them some time; they're living in twilight:

Thats chump change. How about the new proposal in L.A. to pay people to watch THEIR OWN CHILDREN!! You know your paying a bit to much welfare and entitlements when you realize you can actually save money by just paying people to stay home and watch the kids they took it on themselves to bring into the world. Life is fucking great in California. Paid to watch your own children what will they think of next? Paid to sit around and punch the clown all day in the name of science?
They better get this program going soon to save the budget. Certainly a society that pays parents to stay home and watch their kids will be very productive.
Friday Prog is back! Kinda!
8,000 phones that never ring? Take 'em out on Highway 61!
Damn I wish joe were around to expound on an unused telephone corrollary to his broken windown theory.
That would funny enough to last the whole weekend.
