'If I'm Corrupt, It's Because I Take Care of My District'
In a 2007 column, I argued that members of Congress cannot be shamed out of their parochial pork pulling because they have no shame; they are proud of grabbing as many taxpayer dollars as they can for their districts and states. The latest illustration: Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), locally beloved and nationally reviled for funneling federal funds to Johnston, Pennylvania, while collecting campaign-contribution kickbacks, defends his perfectly legal theft of taxpayer money in an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district….My job as a member of Congress is to make sure that we take care of what we see is necessary. Not the bureaucrats who are unelected over there in whatever White House, whether it's Republican or Democrat. Those bureaucrats would like to control everything. Every president would like to have all the power and not have Congress change anything. But we're closest to the people.

Jack Murtha is a loathsome sack of pig vomit. Fuck him.
If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district
If I show up at your doorstep and kick your nuts into your stomach, it's because I'm taking care of my bank account.
Yo, fuck John Murtha.
Warty, i can't believe even you would make such a hateful comparison. What have sacks of pig vomit ever done to you?
Do we really need more proof that the government is irredeemably corrupt?
John Murtha is a Republican, right? This is proof that all Republicans are evil. I hate Republicans. And libertarians suck for being the allies of Republicans. It's the libertarians' fault whenever Republicans win. But that's over now because the people have finally woken up.
What, John Murtha is a Democrat? Well, I guess it's okay, then.
Do we really need more proof that the government is irredeemably corrupt?
I think the fact that they don't even feel the need to even pretend that they aren't any more pretty much seals it.
This suck double for me, because I'm distantly related to the fucker...
If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district ...
No. You are corrupt because you take bribes. Definitely in the form of campaign contrtibutions, probably in other ways. e.g. jobs for relatives, donations to your favorite charity, promises of future employment, Spitzer priced hookers.
If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district
If?
WE got a nominee for the biggest dueche in the universe
"WE got a nominee for the biggest dueche in the universe"
I second the nomination of TofuSushi as the biggest dueche in the universe.
All in favor?
This is exactly why congress will always suck. Everyone hates congress as a whole, as can be seen in constantly low approval ratings. But a lot of people like their own congressperson/senator exactly because they are good at doing the things that all of the others do that make everyone hate them so much. Could be quite funny if it weren't so tragic.
Corruption empowers. Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

That one's going on the cubicle wall.
I was just following orders.
They started it.
Everyone else is doing it.
I'm just working the system.
If I didn't do it someone else would.
Murtha needs to be taken aside and given a good spanking.

Actually, dickweed, there are many layers closer to the people than you are.

He may already be getting them. See my comment about Spitzer priced hookers.

Awesome, Drew. That may just make it into RC'z Iron Laws.
Damn Tofu, you are one stupid motherf***er.
RTFA. It says right there in the 3rd line, right side: D-Pa.
And Murtha is a dumb, motherf***er for stealing my money to boot.
Queesryche, Operation Mindcrime, 3rd track.
Wasn't this sack of shit already being investigated for taking bribes in the time period of Charlie Wilson's War? And they joked that he kept his committee sending money to Afghanistan because Wilson, who was on the Ethics Committee, helped him get away with his ethics indiscretions. Har dee har.
We've GOT to repeal the 17th amendment.
Not to take anything away from Drew, it is an awsome quote, but he didn't come up with it.
Consumerism, crime, and corruption
bill, what does the 17th amendment have to do with Murtha? He is in the house, not the senate.
Personally, I see no difference between a bunch of career politicians picking the senator (before the 17th amendment) and a bunch of career politicians picking two possibilities and the people picking between the two (after the 17th amendment).

The other day, I said, at lunch. "Now that we're rid of Conrad Burns, we need to throw Baucus to the sharks."
The people I was with immediately started telling me what a great guy Max Baucus is, and how we really need to keep sending him back to Washington, so he can keep sending the bacon home.
Aside from the fact that I think Max Baucus is a slimy douche, he has been in DC too long, and needs to be retired. I'll feel the same way about Tester, soon.
How is this different from Mr. Paul getting earmark money back to his constituents?
