While the cartoons are good, the plural of Funnies always makes me feel slightly ripped off.

Is Peter Bagge still contributing stuff to reason? He is one (of many, but still a very good one) of the reasons that I got a subscription (and got a gift subscription for a friend) to the mag.

You're right. And the words are funny without the cartoon. This would be one of those things where the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
