Scenes from the Campaign Trail
Hit & Run irregular bigbigslacker passes along a photo he snapped yesterday in Marion, Illinois:
You have to admire the ecumenism of the terrorists (sorry, "terrorist"): When it comes to bringing down the Great Satan, a vote for Alan Keyes or the Prohibitionists is apparently as good as a vote for Obama.

not to nitpick, but I think it's "bigbigslacker".
Does this make me a terrorist because I'm voting for Bob Barr?
I lived for over twenty years in Carbondale, the other large town in Southern Illinois. Folks in Marion were generally afraid to come to Carbondale, home of Southern Illinois University, because of its 'sex, drugs and rock and roll' image. Southern Illinois is conservative, Bible-belt, all the stereotypes you can think of. Being Jewish was tricky, being a prominent Libertarian equally so (I once ran for Congress on the LP ticket there).
Not quite as bad as the one with the twin towers burning saying "Please vote for McCain".
TAO--
Yes. Yes it does.
This poll seems like an outlier, I'm pretty sure Zogby and Rasmussen had it at 7 or 8 of of ten.
The "Obama is a terrorist/ supported by terrorists" meme is tired and stupid. Especially considering McCain's own association with terrorists, which hasn't gotten a lot of media play.
Does that demonstrate that the MSM is in the bag for McCain?
Yes. Yes it does.
Woo-hoo! I should go to Illinois and tell them they just called a war veteran a terrorist.
::snicker::
Kolohe wins.
Gilmore said it the other day--talking about the "MSM" is shorthand for "I don't read much".
TAO: Thanks, fixed.
Kolohe: You win.
I'm with the sign.
All your terrorist are belong to us.
By contrast, the socialist vote was split 4/6 between "anyone but McCain" and "anyone but Barr."
I'm a poor citizen journalist.
I knew I should have sent in the picture of the Mike Gravel Campaign Headquarters compound in Brandon Mississippi. It had a flag and lots of spray paint.
I can dig it.
Can you really trust a terrorist to be truthful on a survey?
Can you really trust a terrorist to be truthful on a survey?
Probably a pretty high Bradley Effect. I doubt more than 7 or 8 of those terrorist will actually vote for McCain when the curtain is drawn.
You can still show us. i gotta see that.
only 8 out of 10 will make it to the voting booth.
I used to think that terrorists were just a little misguided. Then I heard that they were associated with William Ayers, and I just can't support that.
This sign is good, but it doesn't top the "Obama, Osama. Humm, are they brothers?" sign from a few months back.
Notice how both, suprisingly, have something spelled incorrectly - the terrorists/terrorist and hmm/humm.
3rd place goes to the "MAVRICK" sign that appeared onscreen during McCain's convention speech right as he was talking about education.
AHHH!!! Teh stupid!!! It makes the head hurt...
Why don't you put warning labels before showing the wingnuttery? 🙂
You'd think that a group so concerned about getting votes for John McCain would at least take the time to make sure that the flag depicted on the sign looked like the real American flag though. Did they not realize that the stars and blue background is not supposed to take up the entire left half of the flag?
How unpatriotic!
I'm just wondering why the first line isn't also in all caps.
Nick,
That's the flag after the terrorist have their way with it. It's a warning of dark times ahead... everyone of those stars will have a crescent around it.
Please, they're both members of the US Congress, the greatest hive of scum and viliany in this sector.
perhaps the revised flag is what they perceive it will be when the newly acquired states of Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Venezuala(sic) et al are sewed on...
I think Limbaugh and many right wingers were saying the same thing in the primary. Anyone but McCain, and anyone included Hillary.
I never doubted the 10 out of 10 figure. My thought was, does this survey have a sample size issue? We may never know if the 11th or 12th terrorist has a soft spot for McCain.
I hate to stereotype, but (since I'm doing it anyway) the people in Southern Illinois(Southern tip - south of Marion/Carbondale) are generally pretty friendly. The odd couple, my Laotian wife and my white self, got quite a few stares in the all-white mom n pop eateries n such (all heads turned sort of thing...), but nothing unfriendly. However, I couldn't help asking her if she was Chinese or Japanese whenever this happened. That joke just never gets old...
I'm still laughing over a bumper sticker I saw this weekend and now you give me this?
oops wrong linkie thingie
here's the Obama = Anti-Christ sticker
Will electing the candidate terrorist hate the most make us safer?
Auntie Christ? Isn't that the movie with Rosalind Russell? I think there was a remake with Lucille Ball, too.

Yeah, that was my experience with Middle Illinois too. Got pulled over on my way down to take the CPA exam by the happiest State Trooper I've ever seen. You could tell he was just a big friendly farmboy. Let me off with a warning even though I was speeding and so focused on reciting GAAP standards I hadn't noticed his flashers for several miles.
People do stare at my hot little Filpino gf though. But then, so do I.
From Laos stupid! It's a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It's between Vietnam and Thailand, okay? Population 4.7 million.
"From Laos stupid!"
Um...it sure sounded to me like it was an inside joke.
How incredibly depressing.
As a native of Marion, I assure you that many of us can pluralize properly.
I scored four seperate rides near Carbondale stumbling home to Cape Girardeau many Haloweens ago. Nice people indeed. Good thing I wasn't wearing a costume.

Laos "Chinese or Japanese" joke starts at 44 seconds.
Kolohe wins the thread, but Kwix gets honorable mention for the KotH reference.
I lived in Marion during the last presidential election. I'm so glad I now live in California.
Also, I'm very glad that traditionally red southern Illinois isn't populous enough to harm Illinois' blue state status.
