During the baseball playoffs, or at least for as long as my Los Angeles Angels of Orange County are still alive, I'll be blogging some occasional hardball over at the L.A. Times' Fabulous Forum blog. First post here, second here.

Very cool. Don't forget to track the most important story of the Angels' run--Vlad's attempt to shatter the record for the most postseason groundouts to shortstop.

Not that I am still bitter about the White Sox series from a few years back.....

  2. Orange Line Special   17 years ago

Pardon me for interrupting that, but the comments I left on this earlier thread have gone missing. There are a couple references to "OLS", but no OLS. Did Weigel finally break?

  3. Steven W.   17 years ago

We have tickets for Saturday night + NLCS too ... so excited. But Manny just hit into a double play to end Dodgers 1st.

  4. Boston   17 years ago

LAA of A: Toast in 4.

You can put that on the board

  5. Steven W.   17 years ago

Actually should have clarified, True Blue here + A's fan since childhood, hoping for freeway series 😉

  6. J sub D   17 years ago

I was completely disappointed with my Tigers this year. Still this baseball fan has to follow the post season.

I've got two teams to root against (Dodgers and Cubs) so it'll remain interesting.

Good job on pimping both your book and Reason.

1918. Cubs win Pennant. World War I.
1929. Cubs win Pennant. Stock market crash.
1932. Cubs win Pennant. Depression hits rock bottom.
1935. Cubs win Pennant. Still depressed.
    1938. Cubs win Pennant. Munich.
1945. Cubs win Pennant. Nuclear war begins,

    The Cubs must be stopped!

  9. The Angry Optimist   17 years ago

I think it is past awesome that your stuff was deleted, OLS.

Perhaps permanent biological self-deletion is next? I'll throw a penny in a well.

  10. Mr. Chartreuse   17 years ago

Off-topic, but thanks to all you guys and gals at Reason HQ for putting a Kindle version of the magazine out!

    On-topic...um, baseball...[nervous cough]In Putin's Russia, bat hits you.

  11. mtc   17 years ago

Angels-Sox comes down to what Josh Beckett shows up game three. Dodgers up on the Cubs 5-2 after 7, uh-oh.

  12. stubby   17 years ago

I thought it was so cool when they went from the Anaheim Angels to The Los Angeles Angels - IOW, The The Angels Angels.

  13. The Angry Optimist   17 years ago

Wouldn't it be "The City of Angels' Angels"? Yes, I know, strictly speaking that "Los Angeles" is angels, but I think that we should just consider that shorthand for the whole name.

    /pedantry

  14. Kolohe   17 years ago

    TAO-
    for uber-pendantry, it would be
'El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula' Angels. (of Anaheim)

Matt Welch, the Keith Olbermann of Reason.

  16. Matt Welch Makes Me Sleepy   17 years ago

"Matt Welch, the Keith Olbermann of Reason."

I take that back. Olbermann knows sports.

  17. Another century, another dolla   17 years ago

Why is it that every Cubs pitcher who's lights out during the regular season suddenly turns into a walk machine once the playoffs come?

And why is it that the TBS announcers are crediting Manny Ramirez with turning the Dodgers around this season, winning this game tonight, getting the rescue bill passed in the Senate, etc? Friggin Dempster walked half the batters he faced, that's why they won.

  18. smacky   17 years ago

The reason the Dodgers turned around this season? Look no further.

    You took our Mountain Man!

  19. Boston   17 years ago

possibly because Manny was the best player in baseball since that trade.

  20. kevrob   17 years ago

But Manny just hit into a double play to end Dodgers (sic) 1st. - Steven W.

The Dodgers, short for Trolley Dodgers (aka The Bridgrooms, Robins, Superbas, Dem Bums), were Brooklyn's team, from 1890 to 1957.

In 1958, driven from the borough by the evil statist Robert Moses, with or without the connivance of Walter O'Malley - his guilt in the matter is a matter of some controversy among baseball historians - the Dodgers ceased to exist. Their spot in the National League was taken by Los Angeles, which, for some unfathomable reason, outrageously pretends to Brooklyn's nickname.

Isn't it about time the L.A. NL entry got its own nickname? I'd suggest, given the history of Chavez Ravine, the Los Angeles Landgrabbers.

    Kevin
(Brooklyn native and grumpy Mets fan.)
