Name your song picks in the comments.

Sorry, "Papa Don't Preach" is already taken. (I haven't googled, but I presume I'm the one-millionth mug to use that gag. Do I win something?)

    Poundcake by Van Halen.

Or anything by Ronnie Spector. My god, what a voice! That “oh oh oh oh” thing she does sounds like she’s in some kind of torment/ecstacy.

    “Mongoloid” by Devo.

The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
    Now give me money
    That’s what I want
    That’s what I want, yeah
    That’s what I want

    She is Governor of Alaska…

  8. Jaybird   17 years ago

Given that absolutely spectacular picture of Palin with the Vikings (not the football team) (I had never actively wanted to vote for a “real” candidate in my whole life until I saw that picture) maybe something by Amon Amarth?

    Runes to my Memory, perhaps?

  9. WLC   17 years ago

Alice Cooper–Elected. Hell, isn’t he a GOP? Maybe he’d do it live *shrugs*

  10. WLC   17 years ago

You mean IN the GOP dickhead (spared you the trouble)

  11. Warren   17 years ago

“These boots are made for walking” by Nancy Sinatra.

  12. The Extispicator   17 years ago

“I saw her standing there” (just for the opening line, “She was just 17 … “)

On a related note, since most ideas have to do with her hotness, I know a guy who has already printed up Tshirts saying

    “Palin: VPILF”

    They’ve been selling like hotcakes.

Haven’t seen any yet in the convention coverage, though. Hoping to tonight.

  13. Jaybird   17 years ago

Smooth Up In Ya by the Bulletboys.

  14. Joemac   17 years ago

  24. Andrew   17 years ago

“Wild Thing” by the Trogs or maybe the Hendrix cover of it.

  25. Frank   17 years ago

    God Bless America, of course.

  26. Xeones   17 years ago

“Don’t Run Our Hearts Around” by Black Mountain.

How about “Hey Joe(Lieberman, I really wanted to pick you for VP but the bible crazies in my party forced upon me the fuckin mayor of Wasalla, Alaska to be next in line for President of the United States. Good god, what have I gotten in to? Vote McCain/Palin ’08.)” by Jimi Hendrix?

  28. CounterClckWise   17 years ago

You Shook Me All Night Long, AC/DC

  29. Dagny T.   17 years ago

“The Mighty Quinn (Quinn the Eskimo)” by Bob Dylan.

  30. ktc2   17 years ago

If you go with AC/DC the most appropriate would be “Givin’ the Dog a Bone”.

  31. SugarFree   17 years ago

    “Seventeen” by Winger. Duh.

  32. SugarFree   17 years ago

I saw sparks fly, from the corner of my eye
And when I turned, it was love at first sight
I said please excuse me, I didn’t catch your name
Oh it’d be a shame not to see you again
And just when I thought she was comin’ to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said
I’m only seventeen, but I’ll show you love like you’ve never seen
She’s only seventeen, daddy says she’s too young, but she’s old enough for me
Come to my place, we can talk it over, oh everything going down in your head
She said take it easy, I need some time, time to work it out, to make you mine
And just when I thought she was comin’ to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said
I’m only seventeen, you ain’t seen love, ain’t seen nothing like me
    She’s only seventeen, seventeen
    (Solo)
Such a bad girl, loves to work me overtime
Feels good (ha), dancin’ close to the borderline
    She’s a magic mountain, she’s a leather glove
Oh she’s my soul, it must be love
She’s only seventeen, still she gives me love, like I’ve never seen
She’s only seventeen, daddy says she’s too young, but she’s old enough for me
She’s everything I need, daddy says she’s too young
But she’s old enough, old enough for me

  33. Capitalist Running Dog   17 years ago

Epi, agreed on Devo, but I would choose: ‘Freedom of Choice.’

McCain needs to play Blue Oyster Cult’s ‘Veteran of the Psychic Wars’ as his theme, methinks.

  34. BDB   17 years ago

    Rocket Queen, Guns ‘N Roses.

  35. Episiarch   17 years ago

I will take the high road for once and also suggest “Knocked Up” by Kings of Leon.

  36. Episiarch   17 years ago

McCain needs to play Blue Oyster Cult’s ‘Veteran of the Psychic Wars’ as his theme, methinks.

No, no: “The Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear in Smoke)” by Hawkwind.

Also, good one, NutraSweet. I…am shocked to admit this, but I once attended a Winger concert. I was very young and stupid.

  37. SugarFree   17 years ago

It’s OK. My first concert was Huey Lewis and The News. Put me off of concerts for years.

  38. Dagny T.   17 years ago

The real high road (and much more likely) would be something like “Small Town Girl” by Journey.

Wow, I have really got to stop going to dueling piano bars with my drunk girl friends.

  39. SugarFree   17 years ago

    Dag,

Did you take the midnight train going anywhere? You can tell us. This is a safe space.

    No one judges you here.

  40. kelley   17 years ago

“Princess of the Universe” by Utopia.

  41. Dagny T.   17 years ago

Did you take the midnight train going anywhere?

Do you believe in “The Power of Love”? Don’t need money, et cetera, et cetera?

  42. Episiarch   17 years ago

Wow, I have really got to stop going to dueling piano bars with my drunk girl friends.

Now why would you stop that?

The real high road (and much more likely) would be something like “Small Town Girl” by Journey.

Well, the high road for me.

  43. Episiarch   17 years ago

It’s OK. My first concert was Huey Lewis and The News. Put me off of concerts for years.

    You are truly battle-scarred.

  44. Diane   17 years ago

“Didn’t we almost make it this time”….

    “Midnight train to Georgia”…

    “Isn’t she Lovely”…

    “Unforgettable”…

    “We’ve Got Tonight Babe”…

    “A Question of Balance”…

    “Pistol-packing Mama”…

(All the music from ANNIE GET YOUR GUN)…

  45. SugarFree   17 years ago

There’s a picture of me wearing the pin my Dad bought me at the concert.

I’ll be in my shame corner.

  46. Christopher W.   17 years ago

Ray Charles’ Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

  47. Dagny T.   17 years ago

Now why would you stop that?

So random Journey songs would not spring unbidden into my head, primarily.

The bar we go to in Seattle has such legendary ladies nights that it usually tends to have more guys than ladies anyways, so we put up with the cheesy music.

  48. SugarFree   17 years ago

The bar we go to in Seattle has such legendary ladies nights that it usually tends to have more guys than ladies anyways, so we put up with the cheesy music.

    Beware the sausage factory.

On a sidenote: The best I could come up with when pressed for the opposite of “sausage factory” I replied “clambake.”

  49. Episiarch   17 years ago

The bar we go to in Seattle has such legendary ladies nights

How much of that is because of you? Be honest. Dancing on tables/the bar counts.

  50. Dagny T.   17 years ago

    I replied “clambake.”

That is even more awesome because of the wondrously bad Elvis movie with the same title.

    “Clambake! Goin’ to a clambake!”

  51. Steve Horwitz   17 years ago

    Duh, “Barracuda” by Heart.

  52. Dagny T.   17 years ago

How much of that is because of you?

Hmm, not sure if that makes my friends and I part of the solution or part of the problem…

  53. Episiarch   17 years ago

Some people’s problems are other people’s solutions.

  54.   17 years ago

    Bad to the BONE!

  55. LarryA   17 years ago

    Love is a many-splintered thing.

  56. srjenkins   17 years ago

Know Your Chicken by Cibo Matto

  57. toddb   17 years ago

    I.L.B.T.’s – Joe Walsh

  58. CounterClckWise   17 years ago

Givin the Dog a Bone? No, that’s reserved for Hillary Clinton…but if you insist on a different AC/DC song, then it should be Let Me Put My Love Into You

  59. Dale Innis   17 years ago

I can’t believe the bad taste of this thread! And that no one’s suggested “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” yet! (“we were barely seventeen / and we were barely dressed”)

  60. toddb   17 years ago

    ooof…or the obvious:
Stand By Your Man – Tammy Wynette

and for Hillary we can reserve I Want You (She’s So Heavy) – Beatles…that ominous guitar riff is perfect

  61. Bingo   17 years ago

    Duh, “Barracuda” by Heart.

    This.

  62. R C Dean   17 years ago

    Duh, “Barracuda” by Heart.

You know, that would actually work.

  63. Jason S.   17 years ago

“Are You Experienced” by Jim Hendrix

  64. armchairpunter   17 years ago

“She’s Crafty” or “Skills to Pay the Bills” by The Beastie Boys

  65. Steve Horwitz   17 years ago

One gold star for me. And of course Heart is now saying they can’t use Barracuda anymore. 🙁
