Obama: "I will go through the federal budget line by line."

Sounds good, but I'll believe it when I see Staples delivering a gross of highlighters to the Oval Office.

So, he's going to go through the federal budget line by line and do what, exactly? Increase every item by 20%?

If the last 15 years are any indication, they seem to do a better job than the Republicans.

That GOP fiscal responsibility thing is as dead as Goldwater.

As he said that I jumped out of my chair and yelled at the tv: "You do not have a line item veto!!!"

Doesn't Obama have staff to explain to him that the president does not have the legal authority to go over the federal budget line by line? Is he stupid? Or does he think I am?

  4. shrike   17 years ago

With 60 Senators he may as well have the line-item veto.

btw - THANKS Reason guys... the coverage was partly cynical and partly humorous. Well done - but Jon Stewart has nothing to worry about.

  5. memphisto   17 years ago

Fishfry, doesn't the line item veto refer to legislation? I think the president delivers a budget to congress.

Obama: "I will go through the federal budget line by line like a dose of salts."

Until Charlie Rangel, David Obey and Robert Byrd decide to take away his line-item crayons.

  8. joe   17 years ago

I think the president delivers a budget to congress.

    Yes, he does.

  9. Salvius   17 years ago

Whoever does it, that job requires a gross of black Sharpies, not highlighters...
