This is mean-spirited, unfair, and profane. I loved it.

Der Untergang was really, really good. Bruno Ganz was incredible as Hitler. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

I have no idea if this is funny because I can't WTFV.

  2. Davebo   17 years ago

Ouch, that was indeed cruel. And I too loved it.

  3. Elemenope   17 years ago

Saw this a few days ago, laughed for a good while.

  4. JW   17 years ago

You owe me a new monitor and keyboard Jesse.

I now have to show this to my very cool German co-worker.

  6. Er?k Boston, Pre-Esq.   17 years ago

Ah, nothing like a thread where Godwin's law is not a concern.

  7. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

Funny, but I liked the one where Hitler was a Cowboys fan better.

The actual movie is very good--I highly recommend it.

  8. Warty   17 years ago

"I'm surrounded by ignorant eunuchs with cunts for eyes!"

    Pure brilliance.

  9. Nephilium   17 years ago

Bah... the video is already gone...

Sure... taunt me with Hitler humor on a Friday morning...

    Nephilium

  10. JW   17 years ago

    It's still there, Nephilium.

  11. Nephilium   17 years ago

    JW:

When I click on play I get the joy of YouTube's:
We're sorry, this video is no longer available.

  12. Warren   17 years ago

    Nephilium,
Weird, it's still playing for me

maybe it's a work thing for you

Nephilium, click on the link to Sullivan and try it there.

  15. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

Youtube! Schweinhundts! Ich muss jetzt erobern Frankreich!

    Nephilium,

Try my link above again. It should work, now.

  16. Ken Shultz   17 years ago

"This is mean-spirited, unfair, and profane."

Mean-spirited and profane, maybe, but unfair?

...I'm not so sure it's unfair.

  17. Christopher Monnier   17 years ago

    > Funny, but I liked the one where Hitler was a Cowboys fan better.

    I agree.

  18. Nephilium   17 years ago

Same thing at the Andrew Sullivan site... Ok... and it finally loaded on the YouTube site...

And random German spitting out of my speakers got me some strange looks in the work place...

    Nephilium

  19. affenkopf   17 years ago

"This video is not available in your country."

I'm kind of curious why. All the other millions of subtitled comedy versions of Der Untergang are avaiable in my country.

  20. Episiarch   17 years ago

Well, what shitty country are you in, ape-head?

  21. Jonathan Hohensee   17 years ago

My favorite is the X-Box version

  22. charlie   17 years ago

I've seen this on a couple sites now... so it's worth pointing out that a Ron Paul supporter had the same idea -- using the same footage -- months ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pOFGkrHoVQ

  23. javier   17 years ago

"take a shit in a fucking outhouse"

    LOL. fucking funny

  24. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

Episiarch, it sounds so much more stark and insulting in English. Which is usually not the case.

  25. Jennifer   17 years ago

choking on their tofu because I voted for the Iraq War

Oh my GOD, that is funny.

I hope Hillary sees this and frowns so hard she squeezes the Botox right out of her forehead.

  26. ClubMedSux   17 years ago

My personal favorite is the storm-chasing version, though I'm not sure it would be that funny to non-meteorologists.

On a side note, is there a wiki or something that lists all the different versions of this video by subject? I think it would be interesting to see how obscure the meme has gotten.

  27. The Wine Commonsewer   17 years ago

When I click on play I get the joy of YouTube's:
We're sorry, this video is no longer available.

That is a very weird quirk I've run across as well. It might be Firefox, it might be Vista, it might be YouTube......

The secret is to refresh the page and then click on the video again. Something happens to the link when the page sits open for a while.

  28. ChrisO   17 years ago

I don't care how many different ways that gets used--it never ceases to be funny.

  29. UCrawford   17 years ago

It was funnier when I saw it adapted on YouTube to tell the story of Hitler getting banned from XBox Live.

  30. jimmy smith   17 years ago

I was drinking coffee and almost drowned myself. I choked, coffee came out my nose and tears flowed from my eyes as I tried to watch. What a mess, got to go change my shirt to even go to lunch. Funniest thing in years for a grumpy old man...

  31. dhex   17 years ago

    tears of joy.

  32. affenkopf   17 years ago

    Episiarch,

Germany, home of the most blocked websites west of the Middle East and China since 1996. I would use a proxy to watch the video, but I don't really care enough about it.

  33. Neil   17 years ago

Laugh it up. The Democrat Party just threw their strongest chance of winning the Presidency under the bus.

I bet Hillary wishes she stayed with the Part of Victory, the GOP.

  34. jasno   17 years ago

Best moment of the election cycle yet!

I would've laughed at Neil's joke but, you know, still kinda exhausted from the video.

  35. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

    affenkopf,

Yes, I must agree with the German government--it is its excess freedom that has gotten Germany in trouble in the past.

  36. Ashley   17 years ago

Sullivan sucks for not giving a "via." Perrin had it up 9 hours earlier.

  37. Warty   17 years ago

Neil, do you think we're Democrats here?

  38. Neil   17 years ago

No Warty I realize you are "libertarians" so-called but you all do sure seem to have a crush on B. Hussein Obama.

  39. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

I'm a libertarian, and I think Obama is a useless twit. Ditto with Clinton, except I have even more reasons to deplore her character.

    Oh, and McCain's a loon.

  40. Eric the .5b   17 years ago

Hmm. When someone sets up a site that's called Something Watch, that Something is invariably something they hate and oppose.

Welcome to Freedom's Watch For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interest groups and their left-wing allies in government. Freedom's Watch was formed to be the conservative voice fighting for mainstream conservative principles.

    Bingo.

  41. Taktix?   17 years ago

For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interest groups and their left-wing allies in government.

    Huh?

These guys must be on drugs...

  42. Neil   17 years ago

Eric we are defending freedom all over the world, doing our best to extend the blessings of liberty to the Muslim world which you think they can't handle.

  43. Ali   17 years ago

Neil, my friend, have you ever been to any Muslim country?

Trust me, they do know that they do not have freedoms. And they are trying to change that. But every time those who want to "spread freedom" to that part of the world get involved, it ends up hurting freedom and those people in these countries than actually do any help. Stay the hell out!

Let me put it for you this way. Many groups in the ME (e.g. kifaya in Egypt and liberal secular reformers in Iran) back down only because they are accused (by true freedom-hating rulers) of being with "the enemy". They really do not want to be associated with Freedom Watch or whatever. Not because they hate freedom, but only because "Freedom Watch" etc hurt the cause than further it.

  44. kwais   17 years ago

fucking awesome, I have to spread that video far and wide.

  45. JW   17 years ago

Just watched it again. Still absolutley hilarious. This guy is a comedy genius.

My German friend loved it, except he had a hard time with it, being that he understood every word said onscreen, which obviously didn't jive with the subtitles.

Gotta say, that would be a unholy bitch for me to do in english.

  46. Exham   17 years ago

    "No longer available"

    Can I get a recap?

  47. Eric the .5b   17 years ago

    So Spake Freedom-Watcher:

Eric we are defending freedom all over the world

Do tell - whose freedoms are your little group defending? Going by a skim of your blog, it doesn't look like you'd dig your freedoms out of a wet paper bag if you thought your fellow Reds would look at you funny.

doing our best to extend the blessings of liberty to the Muslim world which you think they can't handle.

What exactly is your little group doing to help Muslims? And, doing you the courtesy of pretending you're not just copying and pasting from a script, why do you think you're a mind-reader who can tell what I think about "the Muslim world"?

  48. joe   17 years ago

    There there, Neil.

I know you haven't gotten satisfaction from the political process, but buck up.

You can always cling to you guns, your religion, and your antipathy to people who aren't like you.

  49. Pro Libertate   17 years ago

    joe,

You're wasting your time. Neil is thoreau.

  50. joe   17 years ago

    thoreau?

  51. Ska   17 years ago

That was hilarious - but of course as a giants fan I liked that one as well. So hard to decide.

  52. jasa   17 years ago

"You're wasting your time. Neil is thoreau."

I'd bet thoreau has a good enough sense of humor to do it, but I doubt he has that much patience. 😉

  53. Neil   17 years ago

    There you go Joe.

    Keep it up.

Let that liberal northeastern elitism shine through. Why don't you go eat some arugula root?

  54. Neil   17 years ago

Notice how Clinton is still hangin in there Joe? Must suck to still see hear tearing apart your party.

  55. Jim Walsh   17 years ago

I imagine Roseanne and Rosie are just crushed by the news. That makes it even better! WHOOO-HOOOO!

  56. joe   17 years ago

Notice how Clinton is still hangin in there Joe?

No. Not so much, really. She hasn't been getting much coverage since the May 6 primaries that were going to ruin Obama's early victory.

The news has been all about McCain mutating into Dick Cheney, and then his flacks bringing up the fact that he's old.

C'mon, Reverend Wrong, give us a prediction.

  57. Neil   17 years ago

    Want a prediction Joe?

Hillary Clinton wins the WV and KY primaries in a blow out (probably at least 30 points) and serious questions about Obama's electability are raised.

Meanwhile, his poll numbers against McCain stagnate or even lower a little. No post-nomination surge for Senator Hussein.

  58. Neil   17 years ago

    Whats your predictions, Joe?

  59. joe   17 years ago

Hillary wins the West Viginia and Kentucky primaries by a blowout, loses Oregon big, and the headline the next day is that Obama officially won the nomination.

Throughout, Obama's lead over McCain continues to grow.

  60. joe   17 years ago

Oh, and you will continue to struggle with grammar and punctuatioin.

  61. joe   17 years ago

    Dammit!

  62. Neil   17 years ago

LOL Joe did you know Clinton STILL has a consistently bigger lead than Obama against McCain DESPITE being almost knocked out?

I bet she still does better against him by Oregon.

Looks like you all really know how to pick a loser.

  63. joe   17 years ago

And that's why it's called joez Law.

  64. joe   17 years ago

LOL Joe did you know Clinton STILL has a consistently bigger lead than Obama against McCain DESPITE being almost knocked out?

Yup. She'd kick his ass, too.

Looks like you all really know how to pick a loser.

Yeah, that guy who's winning is totally unelectable.

  65. Neil   17 years ago

Yeah Joe and Michael Dukakis had a 14 point lead at this time in 1988.

  66. joe   17 years ago

OK, OK, that's enough. Did you watch the video, Neil?

The Cowboys bit was better, but this was pretty good.

  67. Neil   17 years ago

I liked the X Box live one better but yeah it was pretty funny.

I hope you Democrats are ready to admit (finally) what unrepentant scumbags the Clintons are after being on the recieving end of their slime. Are you ready to admit what criminal scum they really are?

  68. JW   17 years ago

I watched a couple of the others mentioned here and I didn't think they were nearly as funny. Not because of subject matter, but because the writing was far superior in the Hitlery spoof.

  69. joe   17 years ago

    Neil,

"Criminal" is a bit strong, but I never liked them. I used to bitch about Bill Clinton all the time.

I've seen them from a new perspective during this campaign. No class. They really do run more like Republicans than liberals. They're not afraid to "go there" at all.

  70. joe   17 years ago

I saw a lame pro-Giants "Downfall" after the Superbowl.

  71. Neil   17 years ago

Joe thats exactly why I really did think she would be scarier to run against than Obama, for the reason you said. She woudlve destroyed McCain through negative campaigning by November shed probably even be questioning his time as a POW.

Obama is classic liberal campaign that tries to be "above it all" thats easier for a Republican to go against.

  72. jim   17 years ago

makes me want to sing "ding dong the witch is dead".

  73. joe   17 years ago

She couldn't destroy Obama through negative campaigning, Neil.

You'd think you'd have learned; just because you can think up an attack doesn't mean it's going to work. Did you think his poll numbers were going to bounce back after Wright-gate? Bitter-gate? Wright-gate 2? Ayers-gate? They did, against the very formidable Hillary Clinton.

  74. Conservative Observer   17 years ago

Joe, the general election is a whole different ball game.

Playing the victim card works with Democrat voters, but not swing voters and independents. Obama has an image problem in the heartland (a lot of people still think he swore in on the Koran) that isn't going to go away anytime soon.

  75. BTS   17 years ago

So basically CO, you're saying that he won't be president because a large portion of our populace are ignorant and bigoted.

    Oy vey, what a country.

  76. Jesrad   17 years ago

I'm also getting "This video is not available in your country" crap, but I'm hailing from the Socialist Sovietic Republic of France, not Germany. Anyway that this video be available from dailymotion instead ?

  77. joe   17 years ago

Playing the victim card works with Democrat voters, but not swing voters and independents. Obama has an image problem in the heartland (a lot of people still think he swore in on the Koran) that isn't going to go away anytime soon.

You see this fellow over here in the yellow shirt? His name's Osama, or something, and he's been following us around everywhere. And that's just great. Everybody, let's give Osama here a big welcome to the real world of America.

You mean like that, Neil/Conservative Observer?

    Sure. Good luck with that.
