The PLO was a socialist terrorist group, not a religious one.

Israel created Hamas to counter the socialist threat.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say that Israel nurtures Islamic fundamentalism because it is easier to handle, and it generates more antipathy to the Arabs, and more sympathy to Israels policy of apartheid.

Of course, I know the answer, and it's not the most important issue in the world. But what is the thinking behind this?

Past PR campaigns were along the lines of "Making the Desert Bloom," "Cool Kibbutzes," (economically-efficient collective farms, miracle of miracles!). Then the "embattled Israel" meme, "The Middle East's Only Democracy," etc. When there was footage of the Palestinians getting harassed and shot, they then went for the whole "intransigent Arabs" thing.

So when all this stopped working (at least outside the US), they're going with porn? Maybe they feel they are pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel. "Well, we can't get any traction with footage of our kibbutzim, our terrorism victims, the Holocaust Memorial. I got it - let's do Girls of the IDF!"

It seems like a desperation move. Or maybe they like porno.
