    Ahhh! Make it go away!

  2. Dan   17 years ago

snif... snif... is something on fire?

  3. ktc2   17 years ago

Looks like he picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

  4. Danny   17 years ago

Is it just me, or does Matt look way nerdier in this photo than in his artsy reason profile picture?

  5. de stijl   17 years ago

    Danny,

    He's not nerdy; he's hipster-doofus.

  6. t. j.   17 years ago

so reason/libertarians are off the ron paul bus and have jumped onto the romney one?? i mean...c'mon procapitalism aside he cannot be that good for libertarians maybe better then mccain but that's not saying much.

  7. de stijl   17 years ago

so reason/libertarians are off the ron paul bus and have jumped onto the romney one??

Where did you get that idea?

  8. Will Wilkinson   17 years ago

t.j., When I said "I liked Romney," what I meant is not that I am supporting him. I meant that I like him much better than McCain, on the grounds that Romney's virtues, such as they are, seem better suited to a capitalist society than McCain's military honor code. You may have noticed we weren't talking about Ron Paul at all.

Overall, I'm hoping Hillary wins it all, animates unhinged GOP opposition, and leaves us with intractable gridlock.

A distinction without a difference. Matt needs to go back to his aviator sunglasses and stuffing his pants with cucumbers--it's way better.

  10. mitch   17 years ago

    Will,

Your Hillary strategy seems risky; can't we expect the Democrats to retain control of congress? And what about Supreme Court judges? Do you think Senator Clinton would appoint better judges than McCain or Romney?

  11. T   17 years ago

Well, I have to give it to Will. If Hillary does win, the "animates unhinged GOP opposition" is a sure bet. Personally, I won't be able to take it. My wife is firmly in the camp of Clinton = unconvicted felon, so another four years of listening to her rants would drive me even nuttier than I already am.

  12. Phillip Egge   17 years ago

Has anyone seen the new McCain ads where, "...as a prisoner of war in vietnam [he] was inspired by Ronald Reagan..."?

What the hell is that about? He was inspired by Ronald Reagan, the actor? Really? That's awesome. I can't wait for Jerry O'Connell to get his props in the 2048 elections.

  13. Matt Welch   17 years ago

Is it just me, or does Matt look way nerdier in this photo than in his artsy reason profile picture?

    You prefer this?

  14. de stijl   17 years ago

Black socks and Converse(?) kicks. Definitely hipster-doofus.

  15. Randi   17 years ago

Wow! After finally seeing Matt Welch's picture for the very first time, all I can say is, I had no idea that Matt Welch was a soft-bottom-butch-dyke. How freaky is that?!

  16. Danny   17 years ago

I can't see the link you provided (blocked at work). I'll check it out later.

To be clear, though, I do like your profile picture. Was that a random picture taken by a friend or did everybody at reason have some sort of professional shoot? Everybody's got really decent pictures here at reason. I'd prefer if Kerry's was a little bit bigger, though... Ow ow! *winks*

  17. bookworm   17 years ago

"My wife is firmly in the camp of Clinton = unconvicted felon, so another four years of listening to her rants would drive me even nuttier than I already am."

I'm with your wife on that. My wife is with you, T. She says she sure hope Hillary doesn't win because she doesn't want to hear my ranting for 4 or 8 years.

  18. Bingo   17 years ago

Matt is lacking the physical qualifier of libertarianism:

Strong, manly sideburns. Frames the face in a commanding way, yet is soft for the touch of a woman.

    Get crackin' Matt!

  19. Danny   17 years ago

Bingo: My sideburns are curly and fluffy. Does that count as manly?

    ... Can I still be a libertarian?!?!

I'm glad I haven't met any *real* libertarian women...

  20. T   17 years ago

    bookworm,

If Hillary does win, come to Houston. I'll mix up some drinks. You and my wife can have the mutual bitchfest, and me and your wife can laugh at the both of you.

  21. Kolohe   17 years ago

just got to say spouse swaping has got to be the most cosmo activity of all. NTTAWTT

  22. Ken Shultz   17 years ago

I was hoping to see the pink vest with the sequins.

Serious question, though, are these guys teleconferencing from opposite sides of Dupont Circle?

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

  23. Mike Laursen   17 years ago

I can't believe Nick didn't point out that one can hear Matt's vocal stylings at the 27 minute mark.

  24. Dan   17 years ago

Reason only pays you enough to buy particleboard furniture? Time to hit up the kochtopus for some oak and shit.
