Don't Google the War
According to recently released data from Google, countries behind the sexual liberation curve, naturally, top the charts in sex-related searches: "Internet users in Egypt, India and Turkey are the world's most frequent searchers for websites using the keyword 'sex' on Google." Rather more disturbing is this tidbit from the Sydney Morning Herald's story on search trends, which notes that "Germany, Mexico (?) and Austria were the world's top three searchers of the word 'Hitler.'" Who knows, perhaps Germans are looking for copies of a certain banned book.
In other disturbing National Socialist-related news from Germany, a poll cited by the Associated Press finds that Germans believe that, besides that pesky genocide and war-mongering, the Third Reich had its moments:
A quarter of Germans believe there were some positive aspects to Nazi rule, according to a poll published Wednesday - a finding that comes after a popular talk show host was fired for praising Nazi Germany's attitude toward motherhood.
…
The poll, which had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, showed that people 60 or older had the highest regard for aspects of the era, with 37 percent answering "yes" [there were good aspects to Nazism]. Those who grew up directly after the war, now aged 45 to 59, were the least enthusiastic about the Nazi era, with only 15 percent responding "yes."
In fairness to Germans, the poll question is a bit leading: Did Nazism have "good sides (such as) the construction of the highway system, the elimination of unemployment, the low criminality rate (and) the encouragement of the family." What, no mention of the fascist war on cancer?
Oddly, the AP finds it necessary to mention that "Praising the 1933-45 Nazi dictatorship is taboo in Germany." And here I was thinking that praising genocidal anti-Semitism was sort of taboo everywhere.
I reviewed Götz Aly's book on the Nazi welfare state here.

Mexico doesn't make sense. Argentina would make sense: Couple of guys the Mossad overlooked starting up a Facebook group.
Well, there's the original Volkswagen beetle. And the autobahn.
Is "They were evil scum, but the autobahn system is still cool" that difficult a concept?
the elimination of unemployment
It's kinda easy to tackle unemployment when you kill the employed to make room.

It isn't particularly disturbing. He did play a major role in German and Austrian history after all. Indeed, it isn't anymore shocking, disturbing, etc. than finding that France has the most searches for "Napoleon," Britain for "Cromwell" or Russia for "Peter the Great."
As for the question itself, the highway system was a boondoggle and unemployment wasn't eliminated. I can't say what happened to the crime rate during their reign, but as for Nazi encouragement of the family, well, it involved many appalling activities.
When I was in college, the national media breathlessly reported that a recent poll showed that 60% of college students doubted the Holocaust happened.
Sometimes, if you looked far enough down in the story, you'd find the wording of the question that was asked: "Would you be willing to consider evidence that the Holocaust didn't happen?"
Damn bunch of Jew-hating willing considerers of evidence!
Number 6,
At most they made a couple of hundred VWs. Really, the mass production of the vehicle came after WWII under the initial auspices of some Brits.
Number 6,
In other words, the VW "bug" was really a propaganda deal.
Just search "mexico hitler" and you get some fun stuff.

What kind of moron would use "sex" as a keyword in a Google search and expect to find any good stuff? Improve your Google skillz, people. Turkey, I'm looking at you.
And here I was thinking that praising genocidal anti-Semitism was sort of taboo everywhere.
And here I thought it was the last remaining acceptable prejudice.
I'm with joe. This harkens back to the old "the trains ran on time" allusion to Mussolini. It doesn't mean he was a good guy. But coming from the guy who said Jon Stewart's audience would applaud a study like this, I'm not surprised at the tone of this post.
My initial reaction was the same as de stijl's. Googling for "sex" doesn't show that you are sex-obsessed. It shows that you don't understand the internets well enough to know how specific you have to be when googling for porn.
Don't google the war. I did it once, but I think I got away with it.

Along those lines, if you ever want to do a web search to learn about the Japanese Imperial Army's use of "comfort women" during World War Two, you need to choose your search terms carefully.
Most of those documentaries are of dubious historical accuracy.
joe,
Did you get in Dutch with the missus over that one?

Agreed, without the keywords teenage, lesbian, fisting, toying, or Waring Blender, it's not a proper kink search.
Auto-asphyxiation works well...
Most of those documentaries are of dubious historical accuracy.
The only way to know is to check. Gotta sacrifice for the research, man.
Lew Rockwell has a wonderful article that touches on all this: "The Violence of Central Planning":

I would like to know which countries have the greatest frequency of "furries" searches. Then I would vote for Hillary Clinton on the condition that she nuke them.
If it turns out to be the US, well, we deserve it then.
Is there a difference between furries and plushies? I've never been able to figure that out, but then again I had to ask a friend of mine what a rim job was and I was about 25 at the time. Sometimes I'm slow.
Episiarch,
I did a Google search of my apartment in college, and discovered that it had been a "furrie haven" about ten years previous.
Suffice to say, I was at IKEA about 10 minutes later...
Well, there's the original Volkswagen beetle. And the autobahn.
Is "They were evil scum, but the autobahn system is still cool" that difficult a concept?
Also..
I disagree with Communism but one of the planks is actually good.
Industialized Argriculture.

Who was it that was so effusive in their praise for the Third Reich's checkbook balancing skill? I think it was Barbara Boxer, but I don't remember.
"countries behind the sexual liberation curve...India..."
Anyone who thinks India is behind the sexual liberation curve is an idiot. Those folks will fuck anything they can, any way they can.
Taktix,
I will forward the address to my contacts in S.P.E.C.T.R.E., who will...take care of it.
"Sex with animals?!? There's no time, man!"
""Sex with animals?!? There's no time, man!""
Are you saying you have no time for the Conservative Tee-shirt girls?
It's kinda easy to tackle unemployment when you kill the employed to make room.
Yeah, plus the American method of putting the unemployed in prison is at least somewhat more humane.
This was the best line in the article:
"Hangover" - Ireland, United Kingdom, United States
I think the difference between furries and plushies is that one likes to have sex wearing the costume and one likes to have sex with someone wearing the costume.
Related to the mistaken searches, I have a friend who wanted to go skiing here in So Cal and so he googled "Big Bear" only to discover that in the gay community that expression means something entirely different.
I think this is significant:
Those who grew up directly after the war, now aged 45 to 59, were the least enthusiastic about the Nazi era, with only 15 percent responding "yes."
If you didn't live through the aftermath of the Nazi regime, your response to the survey would be superficial.
Sylos- True, but Dr. Porsche was commissioned to design the thing by the Nazis. Incidentally, that explains the evil oil filter on those cars.
Michael, would you find it disturbing if Southerns thought there were good aspects to the Confederacy? Hell, commenters on this blog manage to point out a couple of them every once in a while?
"Michael, would you find it disturbing if Southerns thought there were good aspects to the Confederacy? "
Blacks weren't crowded in the inner city and their teens didn't shoot each other dead just to appear manly.
Wait a minute. Don't you Reasonoids argue that the great support Ron Paul enjoys from neo-Nazis shouldn't discredit Ron Paul? So why should Nazi welfare programs discrdit the welfare state?
What is it about Ron Paul that gets the neo-Nazis so excited about him anyway?
MCM - Nice Faulty Towers reference.
Manuel,
I'm going to sell you to a vivisectionist!
Whoa, Edward actually lands a punch.
EDWARD
DR. PAUL IS HUNG LIKE A HORSE.
THAT'S WHY.
UNUSUALLY CLOSE TO THE TRUTH FOR YOU, VIKING MINION, BUT IN ERROR ALL THE SAME. LET THE URKOBOLD RESPOND:
FAIR QUESTION, EDWARD. RON PAUL IS POPULAR WITH NEO-NAZIS BECAUSE. . . .OF HIS REINEN ARISCHEN BLUTLINIE!
Is there a difference between furries and plushies? I've never been able to figure that out, but then again I had to ask a friend of mine what a rim job was and I was about 25 at the time. Sometimes I'm slow.
Hey, I thought a rim job was something you got at Dobbs Tire & Auto.
Is that why they won't let me go back there anymore?
When I need my rims worked on, I go into the bathroom stall and tap my foot.
bazing!
joe and Stevo kickin some ass!
harro Edward. When are you leavinb?
Mexico must have a strange relationship with Hitler. In a Spanish class I'm taking, we watched a documentary on Emiliano Zapata. Those who deny he was assassinated believe one of two rumors, according to the documentary and a reading we did: either he went to Arabia, or he went to Germany and fought for Hitler. An odd concept, considering that Zapata was a mixed-blood mestizo who spent his life fighting against the state.
Good H&R entry Michael Moynihan.
"Internet users in Egypt, India and Turkey are the world's most frequent searchers for websites using the keyword 'sex' on Google."
I am actually not surprised. What surprises me is why would Egyptian (youth?) resort to the Internet even though satellite dishes (that broadcast porn from all over Europe, Turkey, and Israel) are in great abundance at a relatively low price. But of course the above data does not provide a comparison with other sources of access to porn.
the Third Reich had its moments
Gayest uniforms ever, for one.
Jesus, VM, you're not supposed to respond to trolls. Where the fuck is your self-control?
VM never claimed to have any self-control.
David Bowie got on the "At least the uniforms looked cool" train a while ago.
And was promptly shouted off, IIRC.
oh, Eddie. I wasn't responding to a troll. I was FLIRTING with you.
And ProGLib is right. I have no self control. There's a funny story about that when riding on the bus, but it's for another time.
