  1. Please note it’s a three minute or so segment somewhere in the hour, not necessarily right at the top.

  2. Brian: Will still look for it, despite Beck’s notoriety.

  3. Has it already been taped, or do I still have time to disguise myself as you, bluff my way into the interview, and spit in Beck’s face?

  4. Already been taped.

  5. Brian: Do we take this to imply that you approve of Fluffy’s and my disgust with Beck? 😉

  6. I take it you’ll put it on reason.tv? I hope at least. I don’t think I could watch too much of Beck.

  7. Man, you have my sympathy for having to be on his show. Did he scream about how the Islamofascists will eat your children?

  8. Talking about screaming “Islamofascism” and “terrorism” by Rudy et al., check this very funny video (scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the page).

  9. I enjoyed my appearance.

  10. I enjoyed my appearance.

Well, its gotta be better than how Sullum was treated on Bill O’.

  11. Maybe Doherty can discuss this event Ron Paul is apparently going to. And here we thought he had a brain.

  12. Beck is CNN’s lame attempt at attracting right-wing viewers.

  13. I heard Glenn Beck on the radio last week, ranting about how the Founding Fathers? of the United States were all pious Christians who never meant that whole “separation of church and state” thing to be taken too seriously or too literally.

  14. Also last week, Beck had on his radio show the evangelical loony (and ambulatory mound of suet) John Hagee, speaking about the Rapture and how the events in Revelation will all literally come true, and how the United States will not exist when the Rapture happens. Yes, Glenn Beck truly is an island of calm reason in this sea of madness.

  15. Glenn is just an act, just like all the others. Don’t waste your time watching/listening to him, except of course when Brian Doherty is on (seriously).

  16. TLB, check your calendar – there is no November 31. That’s a sad attempt at comedy from David Horowitz’s boys.

  17. Randolph: And will probably be just like their attempt at smearing “Hussein” Obama. Just Googled “American Fascism Awareness Day” and all I came up with was 5 pages or so, all linking to right wing pages. It looks like it is a hit job just to smear RP and associate him with some negativity.

  18. Sweet, back from Pittsburgh just in time for the show…

  19. Glenn Beck: Passing a resolution condemning the Armenian genocide will kill our troops…

  20. Sorry, Brian, he’s got the “Left Behind” series authors coming on, going to have to wait for teh YouTube…

  21. Just Googled “American Fascism Awareness Day” and all I came up with was 5 pages or so, all linking to right wing pages. It looks like it is a hit job just to smear RP and associate him with some negativity.

God I hope you’re right. I could imagine Rothbard doing this in his heyday, but not Ron Paul. May the taints whither on those started this hoax!

  22. Randolph Carter is right, and I – yes, I – got taken in. I actually thought it was a real event, and the only name that stuck out as not belonging was Ron Paul. And, here I thought I was the Master of Satire.

  23. Randolph:

Actually, November is supposed to have 31 days, but the extra day was stolen by some of dem dirty immi-grants…

  24. Actually, November is supposed to have 31 days, but the extra day was stolen by some of dem dirty immi-grants…

The Januarians to be precise. You can look it up!

  25. I believe you mean “November has 31Days, and it was DayTaken by DayLaborers.”

  26. That was good Brian, but too short. And thanks for making a looser out of my for listening to Beck (was “losers” watching TV the term that was used?)

  27. Beck may be a partisan hack but at least he seems like a nice person. Certainly nicer than someone like Bill O’ or Michael Moore. Too bad his politics are so obnoxious.

  28. Being nicer than Bill O’ does not make a saint out of him. Actually, they are only on for the money. The real danger is in the wacky followers they have. How do we know that none of them would draw a gun on someone simply because he/she is Muslim, illegal immigrant, or, God forbid, a lefty? But that too seems unlikely.

  29. And a great piece on RP in the WaPo.

  30. iih, not saying hes a saint but I could at least talk to him at a bar and would be a bit interesting. With Bill O, I’d probably want to throttle him after five seconds of hearing him talk.

  31. Sorry if I’m not the first to say it, but I’m sure liking all the exposure that Reason is getting lately.

  32. Cesar — yeah, I know. I truly believe that off-camera they’d all be much nicer. To them it is an act that gets them some good money. I only worry about their followers, if not from physical harm, from them electing Rudy or McRomney.

  33. Or Ruderic McRomneyondero.

  34. A person with whom I am acquainted started off on one of his “islamoterrorists are swarming over the borders to git us” rants the other evening, and I just wasn’t in the mood.

I turned and said, “Man, you need to quit watching that idiot Glenn Beck.”

It worked (sort of); he started raving about something else; like how the city shouldn’t allow cars with dents in them to be parked on city streets.

  35. I don’t like his show, but he does make a good beer…

  36. I enjoyed my appearance.

Well, yes, you looked great and all (love the hair), but how did you tolerate Glenn Beck?

  37. Sorry if I’m not the first to say it, but I’m sure liking all the exposure that Reason is getting lately.

Especially Kerry Howley’s exposure. (I have behaved myself until now. Now, it’s my turn.)

  38. Also last week, Beck had on his radio show the evangelical loony (and ambulatory mound of suet) John Hagee…

When the Left goes on and on about Christian Reconstructionism, generally overstating its influence (see: Chris Hedges) because it cannot differentiate between the CR types and the rest of the Religious Right, it can at least point to Hagee as one genuine, honest-to-God Christian Reconstructionist.

  39. Beck is CNN’s lame attempt at attracting right-wing viewers.

Whereas Lou Dobbs is CNN’s lame attempt to reach out to the functionally illiterate.

  40. And HuffPost just run a semi-hit job on Ron Paul here. They failed to mention that Jon Stewart interviewed him and had some very nice things to say about the man. Twisted media. They’re all twisted.

  41. Hey everyone!

    Boondocks Season 2 starts tonight…

  42. I really wish that all this publicity for Dr Paul means something, but I see him making a small impact but ultimately not winning anything. The best hope, imho, is that he simply adds to the currently stagnate and useless political “dialog” in this country.

  43. …it can at least point to Hagee as one genuine, honest-to-God Christian Reconstructionist.

Hagee makes enough noise to attract disproportionate attention. I doubt he and his ilk will ever represent a significant proportion of Christians in American (well, I hope that’s the case). He’s still a loony who, I don’t doubt, envisions a global Christian theocracy in his lifetime, but I don’t necessarily oppose him getting his message out: it might make more people aware that space cadets like Hagee are attempting to shape the world in accordance with their vision.

Why Beck had him on the show is beyond me.

  44. Beck makes O’Reilly seem like Einstein.
He actually manages to drive CNN’s prestige even lower.
