I doubt that christian creationists are funding this guy. He is a heretic by their standards, and flooding France with Islamic propaganda has to be a low priority for American creationists. More likely he's getting cash from closer to home.

His ideas are wrong and should be countered, but I'm much more concerned with his imprisionment if the facts on his site are true.

According to his website, "In the summer of 1986, Adnan Oktar was arrested for having stated, "I am a member of the Turkish nation, and of the community of Ibrahim," in an interview carried by a newspaper. Again under the influence of the circles mentioned above, misleading reports, false information and slanders about him began appearing in various publications."

The messed up thing is, he actually makes our creationists look worse. If this is as mainstream as Islamocreationism is (one dude that cribbed from American creationists), how bad is ours? Hell, we have entire psuedo-scientific institutes. I'll trade our boatload for one crazy dude any day.

IIRC, the french word 'dozen' does some double duty as their indeterminate number... like English 'umpteen', only more formal.

Le Monde troubled themselves to poll French Islamic authorities. The theory of evolution is not contrary to the Koran, according to the President of the French Council on Islamic Culture and imam of the Mosque of Paris, Dalil Boubakeur, and he is convinced that evolution is a scientific fact.

The French Ministry of Education got right on top of things and issued a swift missive to educators denouncing the book, which almost certainly would not happen in the US. The same article notes that an Australian creationist named John Mackay has been making the rounds in Britain, to the discomfort of the Royal Society and the Archbishop of Canterbury, who felt compelled to take a firm position against teaching "neocreationism" in the public schools.

Adnan's book accusses people of attcking Islam through Darwinism. That accusation is wild and unfounded. But the Turkish government jailing him for his speach is even scarier.

Dinesh D'Souza just came out with a book precisly on this subject; saying how it's America's libertine culture that the Radical Muslims hate, not so much our foreign policy. D'Souza advises that Americans become more socially conservative and lose the Madonna/MTV/NFL/Big Busty Blonde women-obssessed/Hip Hop culture and go back to church.

Is it any wonder that the Paleo-Cons and even socially conservative leaning Paleo-libertarians like Lew Rockwell are weak on Islamo-Fascism?

It's only the Libertarians who offer a principled defense against Islamo-Fascism, for we don't want our girlfriends to have to wear ugly black burqas, nor our gay friends having their genitals cut off, nor marijuana, booze and gambling outlawed.

The reason that there is no Islamist ID movement is not because they're so much more progressive then Americans its because most Arabs have never even heard of evolution.

I'm not sure this guy went to jail for his opinions: the record is not particularly clear on exactly what he was jailed for, but some sources at least claim that he was also committed for mental illness and violence. I'd want to know a lot more about his history before bemoaning him as a victim of censorship, especially given that he and his pals seems to have silenced lots of his critics with threats of violence.

The Turkish government is known for locking up people who say things that it doesn't like.

I've heard a couple of stories over the years of Turkish novelists being arrested for writing stories the government disagrees with.
