Bob Woodward Turns On His Sources
Although he couldn't have written his last bestseller without their extended cooperation, veteran Washington insider/journalist Bob Woodward turns on the Bush administration's warriors on 60 Minutes this Sunday:
Woodward tells Mike Wallace that the Bush administration has not told the truth regarding the level of violence, especially against U.S. troops, in Iraq. He also reveals key intelligence that predicts the insurgency will grow worse next year.
……
According to Woodward, insurgent attacks against coalition troops occur, on average, every 15 minutes, a shocking fact the administration has kept secret. "It's getting to the point now where there are eight-, nine-hundred attacks a week. That's more than 100 a day. That is four an hour attacking our forces," says Woodward.
…….
"The insurgents know what they are doing. They know the level of violence and how effective they are. Who doesn't know? The American public," Woodward tells Wallace.
……..
President Bush is absolutely certain that he has the U.S. and Iraq on the right course, says Woodward. So certain is the president on this matter, Woodward says, that when Mr. Bush had key Republicans to the White House to discuss Iraq, he told them, "I will not withdraw, even if Laura and Barney are the only ones supporting me."
Which Barney does President Bush mean? A forthcoming Who Is Deep Throat? mystery for the 21st century, no doubt.

Which Barney does President Bush mean?
I'd assume he means his dog.
I think that's just what he wants us to think. I bet a good case can be made for either Barney the Dinosaur or Barney Rubble---or even, in a secret backroom switcheroo, the ostensibly "antiwar" Barney Frank.
Then again, maybe he does mean the dog.
Maybe Barney is like David Berkowitz's dog, and he's been orchestrating this war all along.
I hope it's Barney the Dinosaur.
I wouldn't want the free world to be led by a man who takes his dog's opinions into account in making his decisions.
Barney Fife.
Let's try to avoid situations which might lead us to think about Barney Frank and the term "deep throat" concurrently...
D'oh!
Get this: Barney the dog bases HIS decisions on astrology!
Maybe Barney is like David Berkowitz's dog, and he's been orchestrating this war all along.
That would really explain a lot, wouldn't it?
Woodward says Kissinger has been consulting Bush on the Iraq war. Imagine that, the Iraq war may not be an extention of Gulf war I, but an extention of Vietnamn.
Bernstein reads Bush wrong. That certainty isn't certainty, it's determination.
Which is better than certainty because it's guaranteed by action.
The Kissinger bit should really prove amusing to Christopher Hitchens.
I assume this is barney

Determination is not always better than certainty. It depends on what you are certain of and/or what you are determined to do.
(I hope I read you correctly and addressed the point you were making.)
I love you, you love me,
Now let's crush the insurgency...
"Bob Woodward Turns On His Sources"
Why isn't anyone making jokes associating the contept of "turning on sources" with the concept of "Deep Throat"?
After the midterm elections, Barney will be the only sentient being publicly supporting Dubya.
Bob Woodward is about my age, but he is fortunate to still have a couple of synapses that rub together.
He remembers Nixon's wage and price controls. He remembers Ford's WIN (Whip Inflation Now) lapel buttons. He remembers Kissinger when he was the dashing bachelor and when he delivered peace with honor out of the Vietnam War--not.
Whipping and warring on inflation and terror and selected drugs will never work.
Kissinger and James Baker (Dubya's ass in the hole) are Lilliputians trying to pass off the tying down of Gulliver as something actually possible.
Whipping and warring and tying down, as B. F. Skinner has shown, are simply ineffective as tools for behaviour modification.
As good, clean S&M fun, yeah, maybe.
"Maybe Barney is like David Berkowitz's dog, and he's been orchestrating this war all along."
Boy, that's alot more damaging than just saying, "Kill the pretty girls with the long hair."
Another rat flees the sinking ship. There seems to be a lot of that lately.
Wars are only winable against governments. Wars on poverty, drugs, terror, etc are not. Wars are however a great way to expand government power.
Woodward has been a known weasel for decades. His sources should know better than to deal with him and deserve whatever they get.
