Thinspiration from Across the Pond
Scotland cements its position as the Windy City of Western Europe with a decade's worth of useless anti-fatty measures. According to a government report, eating habits are worse off at the close of a ten-year, £100 million drive to put healthy food in Scottish mouths. Veggie consumption is down, sugar consumption is up. The Scots' reply? More, please:
The figures have led the report's authors to call for new legislation to enforce healthy eating, saying: "So pervasive is poor diet that reliance on individual choice as the prime ideology in shaping food supply is no longer an adequate policy or ideology."

Scotland is a city?
Let 'em eat foie gras.
I've been writing about this kind of thing in Scotland for years.
"So pervasive is poor diet that reliance on individual choice as the prime ideology in shaping food supply is no longer an adequate policy or ideology"
It is easy to laugh at this stuff, but it really is sinister. They are talking about government determining what people can and cannot eat. There are no doubt millions of benighted dogooders in America who would like to do the same. That is scary as hell. I hate to advocate violence, but I am open for suggestion as to what to do if these people ever get their way. My idea is to start shooting them as quickly and efficently as possible.
Wow...I don't know which quote from health nanny Anna is scarier, the one about easy access to cheap food (as I'm sure she's implying that something MUST be done about this horrendous situation) or how the government, food manufacturers, and communities need to be forced, er, come together to address this problem. I can honestly see some government official thinking that for 10 years, we've asked everyone to play nice and do this voluntarily, but now we've got to force them to do this, for their own good, you see. Grrr!
"reliance on individual choice..... is no longer an adequate policy..."
At least they are admitting it in Scotland. Liberals in America think this way, they just don't have the balls to come out and say it.
FREEDOM!!!!!
....start shooting them as quickly and efficently as possible. - John
If there's time, stuff a Mars bar in the malefactor's mouth and deep-fry him. đŸ™‚
Force-feeding them haggis until they burst would be too cruel. đŸ™‚

Well, actually, I like the idea of Gvt enforced "healthy" diets.....you ever eat anyone who lived on Big Macs & Pepsi? EEEWWWWWW.
Chicago City Council Follies News Alert:
Ald. Burt Natarus & Bernie Stone turned in some sort of request for a repeal of the foie gras ban.
and
Daley will veto the big box ordinance.
We'll see if semi-sanity prevails.
If they really wanted to get people to eat healthy food, they'd have spent money training people to cook something tasty.
Scottish cooking makes a Big Mac seem like a gourmet delight. [And that's from someone who hates Big Macs.]
Funny, I was in Scotland a month ago and I don't recall seeing nearly as many fat people as here. BTW, the Pepsi over tastes much better owing to the fact that they use actual sugar which is something they should do here.
My idea is to start shooting them as quickly and efficently as possible.
You really think they'll let you keep your gun? Why do you think Scotland just banned swords?
So pervasive is poor diet that reliance on individual choice as the prime ideology in shaping food supply is no longer an adequate policy or ideology.
"Oh, that's just another one of those slippery-slope arguments."
I have a cunning plan; Libertarians should be called "Free Range Humans". That would appeal to the health nuts and make them think they need more of us ergo legislate that everyone should vote for us. Problem solved.
