Trondheim Hammer Dance
Tucker Carlson, it turns out, was just the beginning. With an impassioned mass e-mail to friends and supporters, former Rep. Tom DeLay reminds us that even if the GOP loses the House come November, Republicans will still have ballroom dance television:
I am writing to you today in an effort to help a good friend of mine, country music singer and GOP supporter Sara Evans. Sara will be competing this year on ABC's smash hit "Dancing With the Stars" beginning Tuesday, September 12…
One of her opponents on the show is ultra liberal talk show host Jerry Springer. We need to send a message to Hollywood and the media that smut has no place on television by supporting good people like Sara Evans.

When Jerry Springer dances, the terrorists win.
Jerry Springer is not a Hollywood liberal any more than Tom DeLay is a California conservative. Oh, it's Tom DeLay, he forgets the details sometimes.
You sure this isn't from The Onion...
She's cute.
Doesn't change the fact that I will never listen to country music or watch a show called Dancing with the Stars.
"DANCE THE VOTE!"
...that smut has no place on television...
I agree! Why waste air time watching PBS documentaries on fungus that can be used for porn?
Ah, vote rigging. And the GOP plays true to form...
Why is it that country stars seem to look like Sara Evans and rock stars, well, most rock stars don't (think Annie Lennox). Lord knows some of those videos of hers are selling albums.
I like some of Sara Evans music, but I like country rock.
I think she's married to some Republican politician.
I ain't watching that show neither.
Ah, vote rigging. And the GOP plays true to form...
time honored, and the purveyors of this here blog site have been known to advocate ballot box stuffing when best blog of the year voting rolls around.
in both cases, I think what's advocated is full participation (not cheating)
This just shows how pathetic DeLay is. He used to be so formidable, but now all he can do is try to influence votes on a God-awful TV show. He's kind of like every washed-up actor who is now selling timeshares on infomercials at 3am.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Drew, no doubt
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Indeed. And yet, in this case, not yet enough.
So dancing is ok with the southern-fried rubes now? You know the joke about Baptists and dancing.
This truly underscores the entire notion of what's wrong with conservative Republicans...they're simply the turds in the social punch bowl.
An innocuous event - that most people would find apolitical - they turn into a political pot-shot. They don't even get how pathetic they are.
I used to have (past tense is important) 2 friends. Each were right wing republicans. You couldn't watch a movie or listen to the radio with them without getting some garbage about politics. They were the bucket of cold piss thrown over every occassion.
I'm going to have to take your word for it that Springer is ultra ilberal. If it's the word of Tom Delay tho it means diddly. Anyone who wants to throw that scumbag in prison for pimping in the House for multinationals is ultra liberal by his definition.
Glad to see that Delay isn't pimping for my tax dollars any more - not that he needs help with the spendthrift bunch in the Oval Office.
madpad - that's the "no idea from the left so bad the right won't steal it" thing again. (Let's call it NIFTLSBTRWSI for short).
Back in the day it was tedious PC lefties who would comb through cartoons and movies and commercials looking for ever more subtle examples of Incorrect Thought. Now the right has its Kultural Kommissars and they've have turned this into a whole industry.
Also part of the seige mentality strategy where, despite the fact that republicans run everything, they're always everywhere under assualt by countless all-powerful enemies.
Redouble your efforts comrades!
I'm going to have to take your word for it that Springer is ultra ilberal.
Well, he IS a known Democrat. Isn't that the same thing?
Republicans will still have ballroom dance television:
Is it ok for Republicans to dig New Wave and old school punk? Cuz I do.
Mr. Barton,
No, it is not "ok." You are obviously a degenerate and have no place in the big tent revival.
Still, who can resist Claire Grogan or Poly Styrene?
Tschussie!
Republicans will still have ballroom dance television...
Oh dear! When the theocons finally take over the only programing allowed on American television will be Fox News, The 700 Club, and...(shudder)... Lawrence Welk re-runs.
When that day comes, someone shoot me for we will have reached the point of no return.
Welk reruns, along with ballroom contests, have been presented by PBS affiliates for years. It's how the pinkos trick the red-staters to part with the totebag cash. 🙂
Kevin
Apostate Jew,
Ah yes! Claire Grogan and Altered Images and their fine album; 'Happy Birthday'!
Now come on. Especially if it's such a big tent, leme in! Leme in, Leme in, Leme in!
in both cases, I think what's advocated is full participation (not cheating)
I'd hate to over contemplate this, it is dancing with the stars after all, but if Delay was just asking people to watch the show and vote, that would fine; a little weird and pathetic but fine. But he is advocating that people vote for Sara regardless of how she actually dances to somehow endorse her political views. This does seem to be a disingenuous attempt to circumvent the idea of the show (to determine the best dancer). It is an epitome of the mindset that eventually led to his downfall.
Good to see that some things do not change I guess.
Mr. Barton,
Sorry, can't help you. I called Paul - you know who I'm talking about - and he said he longer had influence over at the Office of Admissions. He also said that his former employer, the Department of Worldwide Conspiracy and Nefarious Influence on National Policy (Big Tent Division), was not currently taking any applications. Apparently they're under some kind of hiring freeze due to a recent scandal.
Tschussie!
Oh dear! When the theocons finally take over the only
*Sigh* Akira, I bet you look both ways for right-wing Christians when you cross the street, don't you?
