In my neighborhood too, sort of. What exactly happens at these functions?
Well, y'all never did anything in Barstow but I'm moving to Kansas City (I hear they have a lot of prety women there) so how about some something in KC?
Barstow Freak- I've been dropping hints about a KC gathering for a while now. But there aren't that many H&R people in the area.
Outdoor HEATED patio? What, 100degrees F is not hot enough for you?

Isn't it hot enough in July?
Jeff and I will most likely be there. Unless my editor gives me a last-minute early-morning Sunday assignment.
You would think Libertarians would not want to meet in one of the country's most regulated cities.
Of course, Dan T. Why would they want to meet where a bunch of them already are?
Chances are they use solar energy to heat their patio, as I do with my house this time of year.

Regulated how? That's the question. What other place can you buy beer at 5am? In the south, you get a ticket for jay walking. I'll take a little business regulation over the freedom to live how I want to live every time.
Aw, man! I'm going to be upstate camping with my kids this weekend. Next time let's have the NYC get-together on a weeknight or after Labor Day. In the summer, no one is in the city on weekends but tourists.
J be there. Where it at?

Lamar,
Let's see: smoking bans, dancing bans, byzantine parking enforcement... better enjoy that jaywalking while it lasts.
Sounds like a good time.
Dan T. is just jealous.
(As well he should be.)
Looking forward to pics and stories.
Also, I've been thinking about another Denver gathering. (Not to steal Smacky's thunder.)
You're probably right. I'm just too selfish. Dancing is stupid, don't have a car, hanker for a beer at 4am more than smoking on the dance floor, and I actually enjoy smoking out with the rebels outside. Still, show me a city with no parking restrictions, and I'll say that's not a city, that's a BS little pipsqueak town.
Also, I've been thinking about another Denver gathering.
Just let us know when, mediageek.
I wonder if I could get around the dancing ban by claiming I'm an epileptic?
There's a ban on dancing in NYC?
I was not aware.
No, Smacky, but if a bar is going to allow people to dance (customers, I mean, not entertainers) they need a special "cabaret" license that's a pain in the butt to get.
I thought the dancing thing was repealed a few years ago.
smacky, they're referring to the cabaret law of 1926, which required an establishment to obtain a license from the city in order to have more than 3 people dancing on the premises. It was a not-so-veiled way to chase black clubs out of areas where they weren't wanted. The Giuliani admin used the same laws a few years back to close down clubs where they thought drug dealing was going on.
The Giuliani admin used the same laws a few years back to close down clubs where they thought drug dealing was going on.
Or maybe the Giuliani admin tried to justify using the carbaret laws to close down clubs by claiming they thought drug dealing was going on in them.

Geez, Jennifer, I'm hoping that they have of couple of conveniently placed poles of the right diameter there. I'd like to see that Mussolini thing you do.
Not that I'll be there, but I'd definitely buy a set of those pictures.
Ahhhhhhhhh.
I'll be in MA that weekend.
I miss all the fun.
I'd love to be there, but I have to see if I'll have a date that night or not. I'm generally a lurker, but I'd love to meet some other Big Apple Libertarians.
As of this writing the weather looks good for Saturday. Party sunny and low 80s.

It wouldn't work anyway, since I'll be wearing jeans. You don't get the right friction with too many clothes on.
A quick google investigation seems to indicate that the cabaret license law was still in effect as of early 2005...strangely there's no article on wikipedia about the controversy.
in there like swimwear,
or,
planning to rock out with my [synonym for rooster] out...
re: Dancing Ban
Yes, it's still in effect, although people stopped complaining because some new scenes opened up to respond to the demand...(i.e. people come to brooklyn where no one gives a shit)....but I do miss the smaller east village bars that would have DJ's and ~10-20 people could boogie all night in very cozy setting.
The main driver of the ban in its recent (Giuliani) incarnation was to reduce noise in residential communities. Like the aforementioned east village.
re: 'CONTROVERSY' - It was a lot like the smoking ban, where people complained for the first 6 months, then shrugged and moved on. I think it prompted the emergence of a bunch of new, medium sized clubs to be honest. But I still think it's gay you can't even shimmy in smaller bars. Or do the monkey. Or the bird. Or watoosie. Or even the mashed potato. Really, none of the 1000 dances are permitted.
I still dont think of NYC as 'the most regulated city'... unless you consider the mafia regulators. Which in many ways they are.
I would actually endorse a revival of the 'no spitting fine' of the tuburcular era. @#*&$@ punk kids spit on everything.
JG
follow up thought on the 'dancing ban'...
To be fair, I think there are MORE places to go dancing now as a consequence of the ban... just that your everyday Manhattan bar or retaurant where people get wasted until 4AM can't have so much as 'agressive head nodding' without risk of losing their liquor licence.
decent 2002 article (i think - just glanced over) on the subject in the Voice
http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0248,romano,40202,1.html
One place that are exempt from the ban are the ethnic 'social clubs'? There was a place downtown (canal & b'way) that was a ukranian social club that had the most slamming sat night dance party. You paid a $5 'membership fee'. You got a card, which was cool. Total madness, dancing to baltic techno, drinking those oversized 8% beers.

That old chestnut... it ain't true. At least not for plebes like myself.
You would think Libertarians would not want to meet in one of the country's most regulated cities.
You'd be surprised how many of them actually LIVE here, and in fact choose to live here for reasons other than politics.
Will you be there, Rhywun?

so much for my bulgarian dance party bar.
ukranian, bulgarian, whateva
I retract my previous statement about 'more' dancing. Maybe just 'different'.

Pardon my denseness, but could someone explain the Mussolini reference in regard to pole dancing?
The only thing I can think of is that Jennifer is so good at pole dancing she makes the trains come on time.
It's in this thread, NoStar:
http://www.reason.com/hitandrun/2006/07/youre_not_liber.shtml
Although that was a good guess, NoStar.
Thanks Jennifer. I missed that thread. Wish I'd been around for it. Still, my guess wasn't too bad. I bet you can make the trains come on time.
Actually, I'm kind of proud of that pun.
Perhaps I can work on it. Something along the lines of the Orgy Party planner known as Mussolini because she made the trains....
Will you be there, Rhywun?
I don't think I can pass up smoking and drinking AT THE SAME TIME, in a place that isn't my apartment. Oh yeah, and talking to people and stuff.
I bet you can make the trains come on time. Actually, I'm kind of proud of that pun.

I dunno, NoStar--I've got to be honest and tell you I am not loving this metaphor. The thought of me taking on a train . . . kind of negates the prime physical advantage of sex with a woman who's never had a baby, y'know?
Trains. Tunnels. What's not to like?
You'd be surprised how many of them actually LIVE here, and in fact choose to live here for reasons other than politics. - Rhywun
Hey, if it was good enough for Ayn and Frank....
Kevin
I should make a clarification on the directions to Revival, since it's difficult to see directions on the bar website.
The address is 129 E. 15th Street, between Irving and Third Ave.
NY, NY 10003
The phone number to the bar is: (212) 253-8061
There also appears to be Metro directions on the bar website. You just have to look really carefully because I think either their website wasn't properly put together or else the "directions" link doesn't show up well in some browsers. Here is the link again:
